It was President's Day yesterday.
That explains why the little red flag on my mailbox in front of the inn remained up.
It took me part way through the morning for that realization to kick in.
President's Day. Banks and Post Offices and Schools closed.
But the antique mall?
OPEN!
There was a quite sighting or two, though!
And these must be new to this mall because I'd never seen them before.
I LOVE this double nine-patch variation - look at all of the different blocks!
Some have lights in the corners, other blocks have darks in the corners. Others have "Oh, heck, whatever!" just do to the best they could with what they had to make it work.
I think this is what makes it so charming -
And that cheddar sashing, of course.
As I looked this one over, I don't think the quilt really ended at the left edge. That edge was turned to the back and hemmed, while all 3 remaining sides were machine bound with the same fabric as the sashing.
I think the upper edge of this quilt wore out, and this was a way of extending its life.

These blocks look so different depending on the fabrics used in them - and of course I zoomed right in on those ones that just went awry. Can you see it?

Giant rectangular shoo fly!
This one was made large and fast and was heavily batted for warmth - and the quilting was done by machine on "somewhat" diagonals. How she managed the weight and tried to keep straight lines is beyond me.
But she made it work! And I'm sure it kept folks warm on many a cold winter night.
OH, NO!
Hubster Dave and I have been round and round about taxidermy in our house. I've always said he could have it in his shed, and I preferred simple antlers to a whole mounted head, but you know -
At some point it's going to be a losing battle.
There is one place in the house this will work, and it is not over the fireplace as that is where the TV is.
I sent him this photo and the response was "Let me think about it."
His birthday is coming up, and with the retirement thing - I thought maybe I was making it a bigger no than it ever should have been.
But I know the dogs are going to bark at it and be quite disturbed!
And I am not dusting the thing. EVER.
So we shall see.
This DID come home with me!
It's a green depression glass condiment holder - and it fits the lotion/soap dispenser bottles from the downstairs bath at Quiltville Inn perfectly.
This little thing was my happy find of the day, and it was only $10.00. WIN!
(And I don't have to mount it on a wall and have it staring me down.)
One last finish as the B.A.D. Quilters were out the door!
This was a lot of work and many hours were put into getting this Sandcastles top together.
It's beautiful in blue!

I am thinking this may be an April release, even if it is weird to release a black thing in spring.
I'd rather do it sooner than later, so those who want to do Halloween fabrics can finish it by Halloween??

Today - Housekeeper Susan comes to work her magic. Laundry is washed, but towel baskets need folding and the beds need making. But we have today and tomorrow to get that done before the Lincoln Quilt Group arrives - and here we go again.

Oh Bonnie... pineapple express in halloween colors!!! yummy black & orange? Neutral & orange? omg... the possibilities for table runners and place mats??? omg... I wish my declining vision would allow me to tackle this one... so fun and i has the scraps and whole yardages!!! oh my yes!! Thank you for your continued sharing of your talent and creative child... We have many deer heads in the house. I figured that my honey worked hard his whole life and loves hunting. Many times wild game is what we had to eat. He puts up with me taking ovér the house with many crafts. So he deserves some joy. Bless his heart ♥️ Evelyn
Love all the quilts! As for the taxidermy, many years ago when we didn't have a lot of extra cash my husband took up deer hunting and had two mounts made that he put on the living room wall in our old farmhouse. When I learned how much those mounts cost, I told him the next one would be hanging over new living room furniture. I must have jinxed his hunting luck....MJ Roy
I'm with you on the taxidermy thing!! Too creepy. But, it would be a good idea for a birthday present. In the Shed... HA!! I'm loving the pineapple! I got mine together yesterday on my day off. Today is back to the grind. Have a great one!
I had a deer head mount on the wall at one time. They looked better at
Christmas with some tinsel and ornaments on them.

My hubby's heads are in my basement where he usually is. I do have one in the living room and I have a small piece of quilt over its neck. I also have a great big and huge elk head . I don't dust them either. Love your quilt. I like the black.
My quilts happily reside on walls and furniture among the many antlers and heads in our home ( one antler display is the moose I shot ). A friend told me once that it was a happy collection of both of our interests

Your Pineapple quilt is so striking in the black and white! I enjoyed the Antique Mall quilts so much! The Crazy Annie quilt is now on my bucket list. My heart did a little flip when I saw the condiment holder. Beautiful!
My mom had a NO taxidermy in the house, so dad built a shop and kept adding on as the horns were acquired from his many excursions. I let my husband have taxidermy in the house on one wall and he had to do the dusting. I may have decorated a few antlers with various twinkle lights from time to time. The elk was huge and I comically placed a saddle on it. When he passed, I gave it to a cousin. No more taxidermy in the house. Only quilts on the walls, lol.
2 antlered heads in a spare bedroom in our house. One shot in Wyoming and 1 shot in Alaska. The Alaska mount has chili pepper lites and baseball caps hanging on it! The door is closed to that room so I don’t have to look at them.
Oh the pineapple top is amazing....I'm loving it and can't wait for this one to come out! Happy sewing it together, it will so fun to see how you finish it Bonnie.
That Sandcastles quilt is beautiful - it glows like stained glass!
