Quilting Quarters Floors!

This was the welcome sight upon my arrival at Quiltville Inn yesterday - and the QPO Studio where I start to put my work life back in order after 2 1/2 weeks gone -

FLOOR REFINISHING TIME!

I've wanted to do this for quite some time - and I thought we were settled on a June 2024 time slot as our guys didn't think they could fit us in during January.

But a last minute postponement of another job gave us the opening we need in the nick of time.,

It all began yesterday.

But first - the moving of ALL the stuff from the sewing room and hallway (including all of the inn's library books!) were moved into the dining room to get things out of the way.

The front hall is getting a new coat of finish too -

Tikes.  It's all in here!

Before shot -

You can tell where the chairs wore away the finish before we changed out the wheels to these that are more hardwood friendly. (Affiliate)

The wheels are holding up better than the chairs - we've had to replace a couple as they get a lot of sitting and sewing time.

We just pop the wheels off and stick them on the next chair - and all is well.

But yes, that finish needs refinishing!

Nearly done sanding on this side -

These original boards are chestnut - and when the sanding got down to the bare wood - what a wonderful fragrance!

Just getting started on this side.

This is how things were when I left yesterday afternoon around 2pm.

As of 6pm last night the guys were still at it - so I may find that they finished staining before they went home so that things could dry overnight before putting 2 heavy-duty coats of poly on top.

I told them I wanted it to take a beating like an old gym floor.

And we'll have about a week for the smell to ease before the February Quiltvillians show up next Wednesday afternoon.

The bronchitis is easing. Day 4 of antibiotics. I'll survive!

All orders that came in while I was gone have left the building -

I even hand quilted a bit last night - but hand quilting and NyQuil don't make for a lot of progress.

Still going through New Zealand photos - and will be for a while!

This is from a road stop on our way back to Te Anau from Miford Sound.  Yes, that's snow up top.

And a river runs through it -

Cheeky bird!

Kea are New Zealand’s alpine treasures. If you wanted the YouTube video I posted yesterday there was a section on the Kea and we were lucky enough for some close encounters.

They are not shy!

Our driver and guide Justin had to shut the bus door because they are known to come right on inside and beg for snacks.

Everywhere you look - it's breathtaking.

Happy girl - one ear bud on, one ear bud off.

Things on the to-do list today:

We had 2'' of snow overnight!  It would be perfect for photographing Winter Cardinal so I can get that pattern finished and ready for releasing on Feb 9th. Be watchin for it.

(Yes it will include Star of Hope as a free bonus.)

Desk time needs to happen - just to catch me up a bit more.

I also need to pull the quilts that are heading to the Quilter's Hall of Fame in Indiana for my exhibit - they need descriptions and sizes - I need to get that inventory listing and contract off to them ASAP.

(DESKWORK!)

I'd really like to get to the chiropractor this afternoon as all of that plane sitting and sleeping in different hotel beds has made me a bit out of whack.  I'm calling them as soon as I hit publish on this -

And of course I'm heading over to check on the floor progress.

What do you have on your plate for today?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

I love this quilt, it has fabrics from the 1950s - 1960s.
It would be a great English Paper Piecing project - have you made one with this kite shape?

Beautiful pictures! I’m glad you clarified that was an earbud. When you first posted that picture on FB, I thought you had a new pair of big earrings that maybe you bought in NZ. Floors are gonna look great. Sue

Would love to see Tula, haven’t seen her since you got home. Did you have the floors done when you bought the place? They must really take a beating. Fran in Pa.

I’m helping my daughter out for three days this week, so what’s on my plate is taking kids to school and picking them up. Doing laundry- lots of it. And playing with a new puppy who is only 13 weeks old. That’s hardly a job. Walking the other elderly dog, so he isn’t jealous and helping with meal prep Sounds like I’m just a mom again but I’m enjoying it and glad I can help out. Valerie Merriam

Wow! You are one busy lady!!! And I just HAVE to say THANK YOU for finding such great products that solve problems. Those office chair castors are perfect for stopping my chair from further damaging my laminate floor. I didn't know anyone made castors that don't damage floors! Wouldn't it be so nice if chair manufacturers used this type of castors on their chairs in the first place??? I'm so glad I read your blog every day. You come up with the best ideas!

I am very interested in the wheels as we are moving to a house with wood floors and I would like to be as kind to them as possible. How easy is it to clean thread (and pet fur) out of these wheels?
