What happens when the weather is lousy and neither The Hubster or I have anything on the to-do list?
It's wet and rainy and there's no need to be outside.
There's nothing going on at the inn - it's all closed up tight for the winter ahead.
The ONLY thing that happened yesterday was a quick run to the grocery store in the morning, stopping to check up on Tula and get her fed and loved - and after that it was a day of being home bound and doing little-to-nothing.
I can't just sit around - I get this guilty nagging that there is something that should be done somewhere, that I'm wasting good daylight hours, that I need to not just sit on the couch and while the day away.
It became a weekend of binding and binging - while the crockpot simmered filling the house with delicious smells.
It was cozy, and warm - and I finished!
Zoey being cute at the top of the couch.
(Blurry because I couldn't get her to sit still)
The rain was steady and constant -
Check out this fit!
The quilt is 95'' X 115'' - at least it was BEFORE quilting. Quilting does shrink up a quilt a bit.
But it's got the width I need to cover the sideboards, and still have enough to go over the foot of the bed as well.
Mabel giving it a test run!
There is usually a dog-safe quilt on the end of the bed for them - but she couldn't resist and I agree. It's a great finish.
My Google Photos memories brought up this finish and I thought it was worth revisiting.
You'll find the pattern for Sugar Bowl under the Free Patterns tab at the top of the blog.
This old fence was at the end of my neighborhood when we still lived in Wallburg, NC. It was GREAT for quilt photo taking -
Quilts like this make my heart sing.
My own Sugar Bowl quilt is now living with my cousin and her husband. They are celebrating their one year anniversary this month. It contains pieces of our grandfather's shirts - so I knew it had to go to her.
Will I make another? Maybe! I love quilts like this made from cotton shirts.
But maybe I'll keep going on the other "Now way too many" projects that leave me feeling just a bit anxious over here.
The cardinal inspired project is #1 - but I also promised myself to finish up this year's Oopsie Daisie Leader & Ender challenge. There is time on that one though, as the challenge isn't over until July.
At home? The Arizona Sunset inspired project that is somewhat under way.
But first and forefront - I need to write the pattern for the Kiwi project for my New Zealand travelers! One month from now we will be taking off on that long flight.
Am I glad I basically had an "on the couch" weekend? Yep.
But now it's time to get some things done.
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
I am hitting my desk running this morning.
So much to be done, the deadline gauntlet has been thrown down!
Make a dent in something this Monday - you can do it!

I'm wrestling with some velvet today- making special bags for my daughter's D&D pieces and dice and the sewing is impossible!! I think I'll hand-sew them.
First up today, finishing the holiday decorating and get these boxes back in the garage for a few weeks! Then off to work on my last holdup project!
The uneven layout of the new quilt is impressive - I may be an old, traditional type quilter, but your creativity has helped push me into the 21st century. Thank You !
Good to see the girls enjoying the fabulous quilts. What a treat.
❤️ your blog.
I love this quilt Bonnie!! I have a king bed and need the sides to go down like this one does. This is beautiful and your girls modeling it are perfect! Have a great time in New Zealand! It is a beautiful, clean country and the Kiwis are friendly. I have a friend who lives in Tauranga! I give a shout out to Crisy.
Yesterday I was cutting up shirts for "Indigo Way", they belonged to my brother who would have been 74 next week had his cancer not returned. Good memories of the brother who taught me how to ride a bike, deliver newspapers from a moving bike and rebuild a car engine. Thanks for another mystery to get me through the holidays Bonnie. Love your newest string quilt!
Looking forward to your cardinal inspired project!
Hi Bonnie! You are so much Like me! I too find it hard to just sit when there is always something to do. Unfortunately a bout of Covid has kept me on the couch watching Christmas movies for a few days. I do feel good enough today to maybe head into my sewing room for a bit. I love all your pending projects! Your latest finish is fabulous. I love all the colors and how cheerful it is. May you have a very Merry and blessed Christmas 🎅🏻 🎄🎁
No quilt is complete until it has has been kissed by some dog hair
Oh, it looks gorgeous on your bed! Glad to see the inspectors have approved it! Bonnie, it IS ok to have a slow-down weekend once in a while. I put 2 quilts in the "finished" category this weekend. I have about 5 in my stack that I am needing to start and be done with by May. I'm leaning towards different variations of Log Cabins. It wasn't too bad as far as Monday goes, the kids are taking their semester finals this week. 6 more days until a much needed Christmas break!! :) Have a great week!
Oh, handsewing is much better!! You can hold the needle right where you want the seam to be. The presser foot on a machine moves the velvet fabric by about a 1/4", so it is hard to match seam lines. Good Luck!
I agree! Cat hair does the job nicely too!😂 FranSak in Pa.
