Stepping Into October!

It's been a wonderfully warm start to October.

And I am so thrilled to have had a group of women willing to leave their sewing machines and projects for just an hour or so and get out into some NATURE!

I know as cold weather season gets closer that my own desire to get out when things are icy will wane.

I'm a fair-weather walker, and once temps leave the 40s - forget it.

But while we still have 70s?  Let's GO!

Yes, leaves are turning!

And it was magical to have fluttering leaves float by as as we walked - it was something to be savored.

There is a cabin barely visible in there somewhere!

Yesterday down by the New River -

A whole flock of Canada geese were resting around the sand bar and we watched them float down a ways, to swim back up and float back down again - I'm sure they are enjoying this respite on their own journeys too.

The water is SO LOW, I'm surprised they aren't just walking.

We made it all the way up to McMillan's family cemetery.

Such a gorgeous view!

The curved piecing of flowers got this far.  I love the cone flower! Or is it a sun flower?

This is a Quilt-As-You-Go kind of Quilt of Valor.  Each hexagon is batted and bound and then they are zig-zagged together to make the quilt.

And yes, these did get some work.

I'm just over half of what I need - so I'll continue on these. It was hard to make myself sit at them though, I wanted to be outside!

And so did this guy.

Remember those trees that fell across our drive in June? Click HERE for a refresher.

Those trees are going to make a bunch of good-burning firewood.  

While we don't burn wood in the cabin, The Hubster does have a wood burning stove in his man-shed and we use wood for fire pit night at the inn.

There are not many wonderful days like this left....gotta make the most of them!
