What Christy Brought!

Marvelous things happen when folks don't know what they want to bring to retreat - and because the car is big enough, oh, "Let's just bring it ALL!"

I remember those days of traveling with 100 lbs of quilts in the back of the van, or trying to fly with that many.  It's not for the faint of heart -

And now I get to be the spectator and take it all in.

Such a feast for the eyes!

Christy came to us from Rochester, New York, and I was thrilled to see her roll up to greet everyone.

I remembered how much fun she was in workshops I had taught with her in attendance, and just KNEW she would have some goodies to share.

Her beautiful Jamestown Landing from String Fling had us all oohing and ahhing!

She loves scrappy, as can easily be seen - and her fabric choices are wonderful!

Garden Party from the Addicted to Scraps book.

I love that she used black as the "chains"

This one  is ready for binding and looks like it's ready for fall!

She brought her Moth in the Window top (complete with that fantastic half-square triangle border!) to show us what it looks like when you keep the surrounding pieces in each block the same from block to block - it makes a wonderful plaid effect!  Moth in the Window is also found in the Addicted to Scraps book.

Another topper!

This is Sand Castles from String Frenzy, and it looks so different with her use of constant fabrics along with the lovely sandy neutrals in the string blocks.

A gorgeous Triple Irish Chain with fussy cut block centers -

Wouldn't this look lovely on a bed?

This quilt uses a folded triangle technique resulting in top stitched curves!  Have you made this one? If you know the designer/pattern name, please drop it in the comments section below!

And yes, Christy does on occasion get out of her warm and comfy Civil War type fabric box.  Check out this gorgeous trip around the world with Kaffe fabrics - LOVELY!

Next on her list?

Crumb Jumble from String Fling using all of those precious fabrics she loves the most.

Seeing these blocks makes me long for some simple crumb piecing of my own -

Yet, how many other irons do I have in the fire right now?

Does this give you any clues as to what is under my needle?

This also happened over the long holiday weekend.

Some cutting -

And some sewing!

This was all before Ivy needed to be taken to the emergency vet in Boone -

Today I should be able to finish up the remaining blocks for the Sept/Oct '22 issue of Quiltmaker - Part 5 of Ruby Jubilee.

Did you enter to win a copy ON THAT POST yet? Drawing to happen this coming Saturday 9/10/22.

Ivy Update:

After several episodes of kitty-burrito (wrapping her in a towel to give meds) she is finally back to using her litter box without struggling.  To hear her happily digging away is music to my ears.

I can only imagine what pain she was in from this UTI, and glad we made the choice to take her in on a Sunday of a Monday holiday weekend.

In other "moving forward" news - my computer has been moved off of the kitchen table and put back in my downstairs sewing studio.

Just being back in my own space makes me feel like I can finally breathe and think.

The September Quiltvillians are packing it all up and heading home today - we waved a couple with Tuesday obligations off last night so they could make it home by bedtime and do what needed to be done this morning including jobs and grandkid assisting.

Over the porch rail photos to happen tomorrow as soon as I get them edited!

And since it's Tuesday - laundry will be my main event today, but I don't need to rush at it.

I don't have a group this weekend because I was supposed to be in Poland, but that has been moved out a year due to the situation with Ukraine. (Too close to Poland for comfort!)

Instead - my mom and her 2 sisters, her brother and two of their spouses are coming to spend 5 days with me.  They will be staying at the inn because my little cabin just doesn't have room for the influx of family.

That all begins next Tuesday when I trundle off to Charlotte to pick them up from the airport.

Good times coming, and so many memories to be made!

I am so excited with the arrival of Fall that I have placed the PDF pattern for Appalachian Autumn at 25% off in both the Quiltville Store and the Quiltville Etsy Pattern Shop.

The sale price is good through 9/30/22 - no coupon needed.

And if you have this project started already, perhaps it is time to pull it back out and finish it!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Vintage four-patch quilt from my collection.

Listen to what your heart is telling you.
If there is something not okay in your life, make a change!

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

It's great that you have the Inn to use for your mom and her siblings. I hope everyone has a wonderful time.

I believe the pattern you asked about is called Mexican Stars , by Southwind Designs. Your friend Christy made it 5 x 5 with stars in each corner....beautiful! The actual pattern is laid out 3 x 3 (on point as Christy has made) and has the curved edge 3 triangle block in each corner, to measure 34.5 x 34.5 when finished. THis pattern has been on my to-do list for years1

The folded triangle one that makes curves is Mexican Star Dance from southwind designs. All their patterns use that curve feature.

I love that you are using white thread on top and black on the bottom (looks like black, may be dark grey). I purchased the Appalachian Autumn when it came out. I think it may be time to start it. Thank you for your generosity and your excellent writing and humor.

Enjoying all of Christy's quilts, my mind sequed over to when you used to trot thru airports dragging your quilts to make presentations and hold seminars! The broken foot notwithstanding, i wonder if you are coming anywhere near the number of steps you used to employ, even with taking retreaters and pups on hikes, even so... what a shift in your life, changing up linens on a dozen Inn beds once a week... strange comparison to being in a different bed every week! Thanks for taking us along on your adventures and posting photos of the steps. Cats in Carlsbad CA

Love all the Quilts displayed, but wondering if there is a pattern for Christy's Trip Around the World on Point. Been hunting and cannot find it. Thanks
