Waiting On The Rain

It was one of those sleep-interrupted nights.

Too much weather channel and watching the aftermath of Hurricane Ian as it moved across Florida and out to sea.

I wasn't sure what things were going to happen through the night, and I had the weirdest dreams.

The thing I kept remembering the Hubster telling me was "It's been downgraded to a Tropical Storm."

But once it hit water again my fear is that it would spin up into Hurricane status again.

As of 4am this morning as I put on my ear phones and looked at YouTube on my tablet - yes.  It has.
Ian is now barreling toward Charleston, up through South Carolina, Central North Carolina and we are expecting quite a bit of rain here in the Virginia highlands as we sit just above Western North Carolina.

Be safe, everyone!  And when you can't sleep, sew!

Or at least press and cut and plan to sew.

What can I say? The plaid strips were still close at hand after finishing my Bristol Quilt (Releasing in a couple of weeks - stay tuned!) And I just needed the comfort of familiar units as weather updates played in the background.

At one point I changed channels and watched Call the Midwife, because nothing will block out the terror of a storm like a woman screaming in labor.  LOL.

Yesterday at the Inn - a rope basket class by Denise!

Those who participated were making wonderful things - and in true quilter's fashion, they are all headed to Blowing Rock and The Mountain Thread Company for more basket supplies and inspiration.

The plan is to get a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway for some long range autumn views as the leaves are turning.  We won't be at full peak for a while yet, but these Pennsylvania gals should see what they can while they are here.

They are already on their way to beat the rain, and will have lunch there and head home hopefully before the weather gets bad.

The determination of quilters, right!?

Other lovelies in progress on design walls!

Beautiful watercolor log cabin blocks coming together.

I spy Scrappy Mountain Majesties blocks!

And a sheep to make us smile!

More Lori Holt fun.

And an update on my hand quilting - which is coming along slowly.

I'm turning another corner on the borders around the medallion.  There is one long side and a half-side to go to reach where this border round began.

Then the fill-in corners that brought the big medallion to rectangle shape, and the final outer border.

So about another year or so.  LOL!

Guess what also happens today?

It's Ditch Lilies Drawing Time!

Our winners, drawn by Random Number Generator!

Congrats to Shirley Kirkland and Noreen Davis! Ladies, please check your email (and spam folders) for your notification email containing your patterns.  Please reply to that email with your mailing address so I can have the folks at  Cotton to Quilts get your fabric prize out to you.

And good news - if you are near the Louisville, Kentucky area  Cotton to Quilts is in the process of opening up a real brick & mortar store so you'll be able to feed your fabric desires soon! Stay tuned!

Ditch Lilies and Appalachian Autumn  are on sale at 25% off through TODAY ONLY 9/30/22!  Hurry and save on both! Price reverts to full tomorrow.

They are found in both the digital pattern section of the Quiltville Store and the Quiltville Etsy Store

Optional but helpful: Bonnie K. Hunter's Essential Triangle Tool and either the Simple folded Corners ruler, or the Simple Folded Corners Mini.

Traditional rotary cutting methods are given for those who don't have access to these rulers.

Again, I'm wishing everyone in the path of Hurricane Ian safety.  We've got a mess to pitch in and clean up.

Time to go get some things done before the rain starts here in earnest.

The license plates for Ruby the Subee finally arrived and now I need to go get her inspected so we can put the plates on and drive legally instead of with a Tennessee temporary tag.

What's up for your Friday?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Today I am looking for the good in the world and finding happiness in little things.
And the big pile of scraps just waiting for me to cut into!

Congratulations to the Ladies who won.
Sorry you couldn't sleep 😴. I'm up every morning at 5:00 making coffee. I'm a morning person.
My midarm is giving me problems. Hubby worked on it but I don't know.
Wish I could get a longarm. That would save me grief.
Have a peaceful day and try to take a nap later.

Love the Plaids and all the design wall projects growing. Sewing while it rains outside is good. Hope they miss the storm. Maybe today is the day to finish sashing my Rhododendron Trail. It's not finished and the new Mystery is coming. Nothing like a deadline to get my MOJO spurred. Happy end of September. I'll sew my Fall and Winter Blues away. Waiting for Spring.

I'm jealous of the quilters going to Blowing Rock. I got the opportunity to visit there several years ago. And as a fan of Jan Karon I truly enjoyed my visit. Y'all stay safe.

LOL at the Call of the Midwife comment. Just moved to Myrtle Beach on Monday full time for my first hurricane. Lucky me! Plan on setting up my sewing machine and enjoying it - till the power goes out.

Good morning from Fort Myers, FL. I love your blog and the daily words of wisdom. So much truth in so few words. Oh how much I miss the little things like running water and power and stocked grocery shelves and places to go and things to do. Here one day and gone the next via Ian. Stay safe and be prepared. There is no way to out guess and out prepare the weather.

When I saw those adorable blocks you are working on, I was thinking that there's no way I could sleep if those were in my sewing room waiting for me! I love to see what you do with repurposed shirts! They are some of my very favorite quilts. Take care as Ian comes thru your mountains! Don't let the storm hinder your peace as you sew...

Hello from Orlando! I am so sorry! I know what all that feels like. Ian was a beast!!!!! Thinking of all of you down in the SW and you're in my prayers. Such a devastating storm! What you said is so true -- I was out cleaning up today and thought, my goodness a week ago we had no clue this devastation was going to be upon us. One day at a time! Xx

Our niece & her husband have been at Camp Lejeune. This is their third year there and they've gotten in on a hurricane, or the remnants of one, every year.
