Martha and I hit the open road yesterday morning, down through Sparta, over to Mount Airy.
We were women on a mission, and my first "long" outing in close to 3 weeks.
We had big (although easily manageable) plans on my first official day of weight-bearing-boot-wearing.
Lunch at a favorite Mexican place, then over to get our hair cuts, a run-in (More like a hobble pushing a cart) to Dollar Tree for a couple of needed items, a stop of ice cream on the way home.
The before haircut tea-toast.
She was able to pull me right up to the curb where I had about 5 cautious steps to the front door.
The server seating us looked at me and I said "Table for two - as close as possible!"
Five more steps and we were seated in the nearest booth, chips delivered, drink orders taken and talking commencing.
FREEDOM!!
Small Town Big News!
Mt Airy, NC is a sleepy little town made famous in the Andy Griffith era. It's a cute touristy little place with a lovely downtown made for walking, window shopping - eateries, gift shops, antique shops and more.
But this little mishap made big news in this little town, and because it was there - we had to drive by it so I could see it for myself. YIKES!
And if you want to know more - click HERE.
Haircut & Errands Done - We stopped at our favorite ice cream truck!
My flavor of choice was a coconut ice cream with caramel ripples, chocolate chunks and almonds.
OH. MY. WORD.
The oddities of gawking didn't stop there -
It's US 21 Road Market weekend!
100 miles of yard sales, flea markets, farmers markets, sidewalk sales, church rummage sales - you name it. It's all happening from Wytheville VA to Harmony NC this weekend.
It looks like things were off to a grand start yesterday as we drove from Sparta over to Independence to head back to the inn after our day out. Click to Play:
Our little drive by - wow! Busy already!
It was a good thing that I was not mobile enough to make Martha pull over. But there were miles and miles of tents and people displaying their wares -
My only problem would be - where do you start? And which direction do you go - North or South?
And I guess you just shop until you drop, because what is the alternative? LOL!
I was delivered to the back door of the QPO and into good hands where I found this silly thing waiting for me, thanks to Cathy.
A horn for my knee scooter. LOL!!
Some of the ladies came down to share their finishes!
Autumn is around the corner - isn't this lovely!
Rhododendron Trail variation with pieced borders. Beautiful! (I love how Lola is watching on. LOL!)
Emily's curved piecing is growing!
I need this shirt. LOL!
I bet she gets loads of comments on it.
And here we are with the new haircut.
I'm feeling much closer to normal with every passing day but still forcing myself to take it easy and give that foot lots of elevated time up, and rest.
A nap happened after all of this excitement.
And yes, the quilt we are standing in front of is Kismet.
Only 2 days left:
What happens when you combine traditional triangle units with improv inspired string blocks? Kismet, that’s what!
Quilt Sizes: Full: 78’’X 78’’ Wall: 42’’X 42’’
25% off introductory pricing and no coupon needed, good through 7/31/22.
I've marked Nearly Lemoyne at 25% off as well - just because!
(Also available in the Quiltville Etsy Pattern Shop)
And this is the last time I'm posting about this sale - it all ends Monday morning as we wake to find ourselves into August.
AUGUST! How can that be?
Plans for this morning include carefully getting myself downstairs where I can elevate that leg AND sew at my machine. I can hardly wait.
I'm not sure what I'll work on yet, but it needs to be something without a bunch of up/down activity. String blocks maybe? Because I can press next to my seat.
We'll see. It's about time!
How about you? Do you have anything fun happening this weekend?
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
Vintage quilt found in North Carolina.
This is something I’m working on. Trying not to focus on stress and let it take charge of how I feel.
There are a couple of curve balls I am dealing with, and I am determined to turn them into something positive!
I've been accused of being toxically positive - but I truly believe we need to feel what we feel, deal with it, and find our way out of it.
It's okay to have bad days, but you don't have to take up permanent residence there.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Oh if we could have a toxic positivity pandemic that would be awesome! Spread that stuff :-)
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for the Dawn "Recipe" and putting it in your Recipe tab... I love the original product, and am just delighted to have a less expensive option... THANK YOU... Loved your outing day and must tell you I got an answer/question in Jeopardy because of your frequent posts... Appalachian Trail! Thanks for the fun map and oh, mark your calendar next year for that most excellent opportunity to look at and purchase "stuff" -- hard to imagine 100 miles + of treasures to peruse... today's post is just chock a block full of fun! Love your "oooga" horn for your scooter... Cats in Carlsbad CA
Martha is such a good friend.. your haircut looks great. Naps are always good for you.
Kisses for Mable and Zoey please.
Have a great Sunday.
Love the day out! I know when I broke my ankle I made my apointments with the Dr. so that we could stop at our favorite restraurant on the way home for lunch! You ladies sure had fun!
I bought the Dawn spray yesterday just so I could have the bottle to refill with your recipe!!!
I've just picked up my variation of Winter Blues from my long armer, and it will be going to a relative recovering from surgery. I just knew there was a reason it turned out so long! I hope he enjoys it! I'll post pics on FB after it's gifted.
Toxically positive? Is that a thing? Who comes up with these ideas? I have chronic illnesses that make life hard & I just try to keep positive & take one day at a time. That's a good thing. Keep up the good work, Bonnie, and spread that toxic positivity. LOL
Just love reading this blog everyday and seeing the beautiful quilts made by the quiltvillians, the antics of all the animals and their humans. So glad you're getting better Bonnie, you are one positive lady and an inspiration to many of us.
Enjoyed your post I was really floored by the 100 miles of garage sales. It would take weeks to see them all. It would be fun to try. About constantly being positive all the time dobtheses negative people enjoy being miserable and knowing others are miserable too. Not everything is perfect in my life I have to deal with physical problems. I don't let my problems stop the joys of what I can do. Enjoybyour ability to get around and do things sewing with you leg elevated sounds like a challenge but you can do it. So glad you got to go riding around and having fun.
Thank you so much!
So very glad you are feeling better! Continue to take the "slow down" path until you are totally healed. I look forward every day to reading your blog and enjoying your photos. Thank you for everything you do!!!
