With Paws & Design Floors -

You know me -

There is always two or more projects being worked on behind the scenes - we are hitting mid summer, and you know what that means?

There is a Leader & Ender challenge to be released the first week of July.

And if our Quiltville Winter Mystery colors are going to be released by Halloween, someone better get a move on and decide what the heck we will be doing about now!

There are also a couple of other floating projects in the background being worked on here and there.  Projects with no real hard and fast deadlines, things I can take my own time at because I want to.

This is one of those!

The picture at the top of this post is how I picked up and secured everything after this happened over the weekend:

LOL!!

This was Zoey & Mabel's doing.

After this happened I decided to roll it all up and take it over to the QPO for assembly.  Time had come.  There was no waiting on it.  It needed to come together or fall apart.

I am so excited about this coming together!

This of course, as a string quilt, will be a very piece heavy top with loads of seam allowance bulk.  String quilts are always that way, so this is something that I will definitely machine quilt.

When joining quilt tops of many narrow columns, I like to break it down into manageable widths to help manage the bulk and weight.

I sewed the columns into four sections, then joined them into quilt to halves, and then sewed the final seam down the center.

And as happens with things made of many many many small pieces, things tend to shrink up even more in the joining together process and the center isn't as large as I thought it would be.

Which means there will be room for borders.

Oh, the small scraps I am using up in this one!

I have had so much fun making it.

I'm calling it "Unchained" and it all came about thanks to leftover neutral string units from my Cherry Crunch quilt.  Leftover units always have more possibility to them than we give them credit for!

It will take a few months for me to really get this finished and ready to offer as a PDF pattern.  There are several others already standing by and waiting for their turn, but I thought sharing this now would give you something to look forward to!

Outgoing orders in the new mailbox!

There was no way these would fit in the old mailbox.  I formerly had to balance them on top (in good weather only) and hope the wind wouldn't take them before the mail lady showed up.

Or - I'd have to waste gas and drive out of my way to drop them off.

This makes me such a happy camper. there are 8 packages in here with room for plenty more.  Hooray!

And look who Nana got to see last night!

My favorite red head is now 6 years old and heading into first grade.  He is getting so big so fast!

We met up with Jeff and Ashlyn at Lowes in Elkin to help them decide on flooring for their basement - the carpet has been all torn up and they are going to put down some rubber planks in a weathered washed gray look that will be so great for that space.

From there we went to Mexican for dinner - and Casden did so good while we waited and waited because they were absolutely swamped and short on staff.

I think he ate a whole basket of chips & salsa by himself.  LOL!

"Take a NICE picture with me!"

And crazy eyes takes over.  LOL!

Ahhhh, to be 6 again!

(Those dimples slay me!)

Three tries, and all of them silly -

But I'll take them!

Today Housekeeper Susan comes and we begin to get the Inn all ready for The Sisters of the Stash to arrive tomorrow afternoon.

The Inn will be full again, and I'm looking forward to it.

I'm glad I scheduled this past week off with the pest control guy coming to go through everything, and to have Father's Day with my guys.

But I'm also ready for QUILTERS!

And I think today I'll pull fabrics and cut for the latest installment of Quiltmaker's Ruby Jubilee Part 4.  Are you working on yours?

Put your scraps to better use by learning how to not only save them but use them to their full potential. This course focuses on block construction, with the final quilt being up to the imagination of the maker. Courses were inspired by my favorite blocks found in my Addicted to Scraps column with Quiltmaker magazine.

You’ll love this course if you are:

  • A beginning quilter who wants to learn tips and techniques that will make your quilting experience successful
  • A quilter who wants to learn to work with recycled fabrics and scraps of fabric from other projects.

Here’s all the information:

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

I try to keep this in mind when going through stressful stretches in my life - as in too many deadlines appearing at once!
It's not always easy, but it's important to hold onto that inner peace.
One of my favorite things to do is simply sit on my porch h and listen to the birds and nature around me for a while before diving into my day.
Have a peace filled Tuesday, everyone!

Almost no sewing this week. I'm making snacks every morning for 60+ Vacation Bible School kids and their equally hungry leaders! I will help some teens sew their own very first quilt at the library this afternoon, though. We have five young ladies diligently working on lap size Jelly Roll Races made from donated fabric. With their limited selection, they have each come up with their own excellent color scheme and I'm proud of how they've stuck with a multi-session project.

1st day of Summer! The sun is up and so am I. I love how you methodically picked up that quilt to assemble. Using a Design floor means lots of Quilt Yoga! Feeling old when I do it now. Happy Summer of scraps.

Unchained is really fun! Looks awesome in scrappy everything, would also be great in more controlled scraps. Versatile! Will keep my eyes open for that release when it comes along.
