It was a purple kind of Tuesday yesterday.
Monday I was all about getting the Unchained top center together - too may paws had gotten in my way during the layout phase. Once that was done and I could contemplate borders - I took a day away to work on something else.
Part four of Quiltmaker Magazine's Ruby Jubilee!
Purple, purple and more purple!
Though I know that Denise Starck has used my Addicted to Scraps column blocks from the last 10+ years in this quilt, I don't know until I receive the issue just which blocks will show up, or what size they will need to be, as she has free reign to mess with our minds. LOL!
In other words, if the block was originally 3'', you might be making it in 6'' or 8'' to fit the gorgeous layout she will present us in issue #6 - and my stack of blocks is growing.
I can't wait to see how all of these will look together.
The first thing I did was look at block sizes, and block counts - how many of each to kind of get my bearings.
And then I looked at which parts of my Scrap User's System could be pulled for each block - which sizes of strips - did I have any squares in that color on hand, how many repeats of fabric, etc.
I started with the 16-patch blocks because I knew I could strip piece them and knock them out in no time.
And then I moved on to Pinwheels.
Yesterday's block haul.
Not bad for a day's work!
There are two more sets of blocks to make. I hope to get started into those today, but it's also a "Finish up all the things!" day with the Sisters of the Stash arriving this afternoon. So we will see.
Are you working on your own version of Ruby Jubilee? What colors are you using? Did you decide on one fabric as your background or are you going all out and scrappy?
Some of these blocks used up the LAST of the strip they were cut from. It always feels good to have something used up to the last inch.
And yes - our new Leader & Ender Challenge is gaining ground in between the lines of chain piecing these blocks so I'll have plenty to show you the first week of July.
IT FITS!
Mail day was EXCITING! I added 2 more orders to the outgoing mail, with still plenty of room in the box. My little red flag was up and waiting for the mail lady to come by and whisk it all away.
It was like watching a pot of water come to boil.
And then I must have been sewing or doing something else because the next time I looked out the window the red flag was down.
Now this might not excite anyone else - but usually the mail lady would have had to get OUT of her car and carry this box up two sets of steps to the front doorstep of the inn. (Even in bad icy weather.) Because this box FIT inside the new big mail box, it saved her time and effort. In the box it went, and she was on her way.
Oh, the simple things that are not only good for me, but good for her too.
In other quilty news - I've left the center medallion of the current hexie hand quilting project behind - I've moved beyond the middle!
There are 12 of these "triangles" around the center with 2 on each of the 6 sides of the center medallion.
I like that each one fits inside my hoop pretty nicely. I think from the texture here you can see what I am doing with each one.
I love picking up the hoop in the evening with my feet up during TV watching time. It doesn't matter how long this takes, just that it will get done.
Have you pulled out all of your red white & blue quilts yet?
There are a few more that I want to have out to decorate the inn before the Sisters of the Stash arrive today.
The pattern booklet for Solidarity includes the directions for Hearts of Hope as a BONUS.
I'll be drawing for TWO winners! One will receive a Solidarity PDF pattern from me and a Facets of Red roll, and the second will receive the pattern and a Facets of Blue roll from Cotton to Quilts!

This is Unity Week in my sewing room! Working on part 4; I have all the parts made for each block and am doing assembly line sewing. I like how it's looking!
I ordered the wrong size accuquilt cutting die. I need the 2" square not the 2 1/2" square. So when I get it in the mail its going back. Honestly they print the die sizes so small on the package.
Making progress on Oklahoma Backroads, the blocks go together pretty fast.
Thank you Bonnie for a great pattern.
Loving all your Purples. I am using a constant plain old cream shadow play for background fabric. I ran out so had to wait for the shipment to come. Nice to help out the Mail carrier. It a Sew all day Wednesday. Hubby is out of the house. This 24/7 hubby is hard. Retirement isn't for wimps. Sunny Day for the 2nd day of Summer here in PNW. Perfect for baseball..
Love getting your blog each time!
It never ceases to amaze me how creative you are! Unchained is lovely! I am working on Jubilee in med.-light pinks and blues for a soft feminine quilt for a dear friend. Can't wait to see this all come together!
Life is about being kind to each other.
@Mary ... My husband stepped out of management and while I'm still working, he's underfoot more. He's a good egg, just has to remember that I've been doing things a long time -- MY WAY. Hope your sewing went well. Marcia
