That One Last Stitch -

This happened last evening.

The very last stitch went into the binding on my Oak Leaf quilt.

One last stitch taken, thread knotted, thread tails being buried and hidden, snipped off cleanly, and DONE.

And we had a couple of TV watching hours to go before bed time.  And I did NOTHING.  I just wrapped myself up in this quilt that has waited so long to be finished and snuggled in.

In the light of morning -

I laid the quilt out on the living room floor, which really had too much morning light coming in through all of the windows.  I scurried up the stairs, just a few steps to get a better perspective.

It's done!

And it is everything I wanted it to be.

Right down to those borders and the cheddar binding.

The backing is cheddar dots!

I had purchased the entire bolt on sale - so I expect it is going to end up in more quilts in the future. I love it.

Then there is all of the cheddar dot fabric left from trimming the backing before adding the binding.  That is DEFINITELY going to end up in future quilts, right away.  As soon as I can get it cut to Scrap User's System widths -

Our snow event is really a non-event on this side of Virginia, though I know the I-95 corridor and up northward are being pounded.

We got maybe 1/2 inch last evening, and in preparation this was going on.  Click to Play:

I actually thought I would get a video of The Hubster going all the way down the drive so you should see how steep that hairpin turn really is, but evidently he had other ideas!

He picked up a load of rough sand yesterday in hopes that it will provide a bit more traction.

There are more flurries happening as I type this but I don't think it will amount to much.

Just in case - the van is parked at the bottom of the hill and he can take me down there on the RZR to get to the QPO when I need to.

In the mean time -

Some assembly is happening here!

It came together faster and easier than I thought it would, and I didn't stop to grab what I wanted for borders, so that will wait a bit.

My next evening project?  I did bring the string star quilt home and will prep some applique shapes to finish the applique on that border.

And then it will be machine basted (See more about machine basting by long arm on this post HERE.) and become my next hand quilting project. Yes, likely with fans. Maybe with red thread. Because, why not?

Because someone is going to be missing her hoop hammock!

Jeff & Ashlyn decided it was best not to come up the mountain yesterday for our birthday dinners - we agreed.  The steep and winding pass up from Elkin to Sparta can be treacherous with even the slightest amount of snow.  And it could have been worse on their way back.  So that will happen another time.

I have an eye doc appointment on Tuesday and will be stopping by their place on my way back to drop them off something special - I'll be talking more about that later!  (I'm so excited Jeff has asked for this!)

As I type this, we are currently sitting at 11 degrees with a "Feels like 3 degrees.". UGH.  Our high today is expected to climb to 18!  Oh joy.

I'll be staying in and puttering around the quilting studio for the weekend.  Not going anywhere.  It's bitter out there.  Even Zoey, who wanted to go out SO BAD, spent 20 seconds on the porch, didn't go down the steps, and wanted back in.  I don't blame her.

I hope those in the northeastern climes are hunkered in as well.

Stay warm, stay safe, stay quilty!

Bonnie will you be publishing a pattern for your Churn Dash quilt once you are finished? Love it!

Had to laugh at the photo of the cat in the quilting hoop. When I took a hand quilting class the instructor said to make the quilt in the hoop loose like a fat cat sat on it.

It's done and it's gorgeous!

Yes!! I just need to get borders on it and quilt it up. If I can get it done for a February release I will - or push it to March if life gets in the way.

Here's a bucket FULL of every superlative in my vocabulary, just pour it all over that quilt. Cheddar dots... I'm so glad you bought the bolt when you did, wondering if anything like it would be available now. How beautifully, EXACTLY, appropriate... this one should definitely make your heart sing, Bonnie! It does mine! It is so perfect in every.single.way... Happy finish from Cats in Carlsbad CA

So, so, so gorgeous, Bonnie! And I also love the way you laid out the church dash blocks, where it's not only an unexpected and delightful design, but no corners have to meet...can you tell the part that frustrates me?? :-) Looking forward to seeing the rest of it!

Bonnie, your Oak Leaf quilt if beautiful, I love your hand quilting. And the Churn Dash is a fun one, can't wait to see the finish (well, we know that we do HAVE to WAIT) and the pattern release.
I know that your temps are colder than our 27 this morning, but anything below freezing is a brrrrrrrrr.
Stay Warm and have a good weekend.

Love your hand quilting and the quilt. I made the 'quote' quilt from an antique I saw at a flea market. I left in my first whoopsy and them added several more just for fun.

Love that quote! Accept each and every one just the way they are, do nothing to change them. It is what makes us all unique. The quilt looks beautiful with all those beautiful colours, the cheddar? Knowing how difficult it is to find that colour, not surprised that you bought the whole bolt of it. In Ottawa, they sell large corn grits and use it for putting down on slippery roads and paths: Ritchie’s feed and seed store. It does not melt like salt and creates something to grip to when the surface freeze, if that makes any sense…

Congratulations on finishing the 2 beautiful quilts! You have brought your past into the present to be fully enjoyed. This is our last day in sunny, warm Phoenix and we are headed back to Iowa to the deep freeze. Really ready to be back in my sewing room.

I just absolutely LOVE that quilt (and those tiny little 1/2 sq tri's, WOW!). Love that you're getting some of those oldies finished up. Can't wait to see the next.

Someone suggested I leave an oops in my Rhododendron Trail. I just could not do it. Had to turn that yellow and white piece around. That is what happens when one is a quilting engineer I guess.

Coastal Maryland here- our lowest temp was 15 or 16 last night, and has been steadily rising. We should get above freezing for the rest of the week during the day, and then hopefully above freezing at night by mid week. My brother's property in West Virginia about a half hour southwest of Berkley was at 0 degrees a few days ago. Suffice to say I have a new appreciation for temps in the teens!

Wow, the Oak Leaf quilt is so beautiful! I, too, look forward to the release of the churn dash quilt pattern. And the vintage quilt - just awesome. Love that the "unique" block was left in. It's charming! We got two feet of snow and it's been so cold! But, the end of the week looks promising. Jan in MA
