Yesterday was a winterizing day.
While it doesn't look like it here - there was much weather stripping going on by The Hubster as I took care of things on my end, stopping to help when help was required.
Old buildings can be plagued by numerous things - single paned windows, glass front doors with drafty cracks.
Last year the condensation that happened around the front door at the QPO required a squeegee on the front door glass every morning - cold on the outside, warm on the inside - and drafty cracks.
We hope we have solved some of that for this winter, but short of replacing the whole glass front door - I don't know what we can do. The building is from the 1940s to 1950s - and I am not sure how old the glass door and big front picture window are, but replacing them is out of the question for this year.
She also loves the sunshine on the cutting tables in front of the big window -
It made getting binding cut and ready an interesting activity!
There are times when I really love a solid as a binding.
And having enough yardage to get the job done was another bonus. I used the same navy as inner border on the Sugar Loaf quilt.
Supervisor sleeping on duty!
Binding application in progress!
Side note - while it looks like I am sewing with that cream spool on top - it is actually just sitting there, not threaded. I am sewing with navy from a cone thread holder out of camera range.
And if you were wondering where Zoey was -
Look through the window!
Her tether rope is attached to the tree swing - a perfect solution to giving her plenty of range on the lawn, long enough to cover a large area, but short enough that she can't get wrapped around a tree.
The tether is attached to her harness, not around her neck.
Most of all - she can't run off and get on the road.
Yesterday's job of replacing the blinds in the Quilting Quarters at Quiltville Inn is nearly complete.
I love that these have no cords, just a lift from the bottom to raise, and pull down to lower. The rod on the side adjusts the slats.
Evening binding in my favorite chair.
I just love how this has come together!
The plaids give such a homey feeling. Some of the neutrals used in the blocks are quite whimsical - it's a great mix of my favorite things.
I am hoping to have this pattern ready by mid December. It requires a 60 degree triangle ruler of a certain size and I want to be sure those are in stock before the pattern goes live.
Photography needs to happen. Pattern writing and graphic drawings need to happen - and this is where that "Just Ahead of Winter's Arrival" headline comes in -
We are due for snow in the next few days! Our high next Tuesday is projected at only 26. For the HIGH.
Part of me is ready for being snowed in on the mountain. Part of me is already dreading not being able to get up or down my steep drive at the cabin.
Part of me wants winter to hurry up and get it over with so we can move forward into 2021.
That being snowed in bit would be great if it only lasted a couple of days.
And then my mind worries about not getting the mail order out to people on time.
If you ordered a large-sized Simple Folded Corners ruler from me after last Friday for our Grassy Creek Mystery, you would have noticed that there is a "This item is on order and is expected within the week." message on the item description. I checked with my supplier yesterday and they said they had just shipped. So they are coming.
I have a good supply of the Simple Folded Corners Mini in stock. (Either ruler will come in handy for this mystery!)
I've also been informed that acrylic - the stuff that rulers are made of - is getting harder to come by due to supply chain interruption. If you end up not being able to find a Simple Folded Corners ruler in time, please know that I will provide alternate instructions for those units. You will be able to continue on.
TWO MORE SLEEPS until Grassy Creek begins!
What is your plan for Thanksgiving tomorrow? Anything different happening? Menu changes? Things that you will continue to have even though it is different this year?
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
I so agree! I am blessed, honored and privileged to be able to spend time every day creating with fabric and thread, and sharing it with you.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!

Just the two of us and cornish hens instead of turkey. A banana cream pie for hubs and pumpkin for me. Sweet potatoes grilled with honey and spices. I'm sure that everyone is making due this year. And am hoping those those that travel stay healthy. :)
we are staying home this year usually go to SIL for family day having my kids which live locally over to eat. First year in many years will have brother and family with us since they are living with us while their house is being built so thankful we can spend time with them and our kids.
Due to some heath restrictions on my husbands diet we are dialing back our menu this year. Of course turkey, but no stuffing, salad will replace the green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, and a small amount of Yukon gold potatoes and gravy. I'm still considering some sour dough rolls, and I have to have pie even if we all get a skinny sliver.
We will be with my daughter and her hubby and 2 month old grandbaby Hazel. We are our circle so keeping it safe. So glad we are close to them even if it is cold here in Wisconsin. Happy Thanksgiving, stay safe!
So Different this year. But we will still be Grateful and Thankful! Celebrating 44 years with my hubby today. Love the Sugar loaf quilt and homespun looking fabrics.
Small brief gathering for us. We are having a traditional turkey dinner with my sister and brother in law. They live less than a mile from us. The plan is to eat outside on the lanai. No early arrival or hanging out all afternoon. We are thankful to be able to share the meal. Enjoy your day with your hubby!
Your fur babies all look content, and I agree a little snow for a day or two is nice to stay home, enjoy the view and sew. But if there is a time to get it holidays are perfect to me. Our Thanksgiving will be so different for us this year. Our son who lives about 2 miles away will be here for lunch but no other family. Our daughter is having surgery today to have her final breast implant inserted after a couple years of multiple surgeries to breast cancer. Our son in law had to just drop her off at hospital, unable to go in with her. Then my sister called about 30 minutes ago to say that my Mom fell at her memory care facility again this morning. They think she broke either her shoulder or arm, but no one can go with her either. She is 93 with Alzheimer's and is getting so confused and keeps forgetting to use her walker. So I would appreciate prayers for my family today. I am wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a blessed day. Thank you Bonnie for all you do!
thankful for all you do to promote and inspire the quilty community...wishing you all a safe holiday and a fast return to normal for all of us..
Since it’s just hubby and I this year, he’s going to smoke a brisket and will have baked beans and cole slaw. Our son’s girlfriend is recovering from COVID so everyone is staying home.
Roasted breast & veggies. Need that fragrance to fill the house. Then off to sew!
My husband and I are staying home. All the food shopping is done, I think. I am trying a new recipe using a boneless, butterflied, skin-on turkey breast that you roll up like a cinnamon roll with cranberry/sausage stuffing inside. You can check it out on Foodnetwork, (Roasted Turkey Roulade). It is an Ina Garten recipe. Easy but festive. Thank you, Bonnie, for joining me every morning for breakfast (via the Blog,) it's such a lovely way to start the day. I wish you a peaceful, healthy and contented Thanksgiving holiday
I love your Sugar Loaf Quilt and can't wait for the pattern. I'm also quite taken with the quilt behind todays quote, can you tell me about the name of the block or how to find a pattern. Thanksgiving is just the two of us. I have been teaching my girls how to make my homemade rolls via phone and text all week. I have been trying to get them to learn how for years. I guess one good thing is happening this Thanksgiving. I love all you write about your happenings! I hope you get some rest with all the mystery craziness.
My small group has been the same for months, their biggest requests are whole wheat rolls and chicken dressing, while we give thanks for a healthy 5 person family we like to say a blessing for those less fortunate. The new quilt is gorgeous!
EricaB, I too have breakfast every morning with all y'all, starts my day on such a lovely positive note! Happy Thanksgiving, full of hope and gratitude for health and happy sewing -- thanks to Bonnie for all you do and all the other quilters who contribute to make my life creative and moving forward in joyous celebration of life.
We live in Alaska and visited Chena Hot Springs in Fairbanks in the winter a long time ago. One of the hot pools was inside and the attendant at the desk had a sledge hammer and every 15 minutes or so, they took it and knocked all the ice off the threshold of the door where the condensation from the steaming pool met the 30 below outside air. I remember thinking that must have been a unique job description. Happy Thanksgiving!
Sugar Loaf is just so lovely and soft. Makes me want to curl up under it.
I'd Pinned several vintage versions of that quilt and have thought about trying it at some point. Now that I see your (nearly) finished version, I'm more interested than ever. When your pattern is ready for release, I know you'll make it clearer and easier to accomplish than if I tried to reverse engineer it myself. It's been fun watching this one grow!
Happy modified Thanksgiving to all! We are having dinner with another couple who are in our "bubble". It will be a short day- no lingering after the meal, but I'm so glad we can eat with them. All of our kids are too far and aren't traveling.
I, also, changed blinds to the no cords....love them! As for Turkey Day meal, we usually have15-20 folks, but it’s just the two of us this year so we opted for: filets, asparagus, tomato/cucumber salad, and pecan pie. HappyThanksgiving, be grateful!
Because my son is on quarantine and I was exposed to him before he found out that a co-worker tested positive, my Thanksgiving is going to be door delivery to his house for Thanksgiving. Everything was already bought and my husband and I can't eat it all, deliveries will be safely made. This is definitely an unusual Thanksgiving but we are alive and well, so far. All we can do is what we can do and go forward. Happy Thanksgiving to all the Quiltville members.
Friendsgiving will happen this year without my children or grandchild, we all still have so much to be grateful for and we will gather together to thank the Lord for all our blessings. Happy thanksgiving and thanks for yet another mystery to keep me busy while away from family.
I wonder if the acrylic interruption is due to so many acrylic shields being used since covid. Love looking at the pets! Cats are so funny. You never know where you will find them. Have a great holiday everyone! No matter how you celebrate. pam
I love that your quilt has rounded corners! Years ago we put pladtic on our windows and doors using a hair dryer to shrinkmit up.
Dear Bonnie, Thank you for the weather report! Since you are on the other side of Virginia from where I am, I can read your blog and find out what the weather will be like here in Maryland in one or two days. This plaid quilt is lovely! Lola looks like a three legged cat on that cutting mat. I love how she "supervises" with one leg stretched out to the sun. Thanks for your cheerfulness!
Thankful for your daily posts, for our family who have all been well and just the two of us sharing a fairly traditional menu tomorrow with LOTS of leftovers! DH is gluten sensitive so I am trying a wild rice & mushroom stuffing.
My stove died and the new one won't be here until Saturday so crock pot roast it is. Will do the whole turkey thing next week. Just the two of us but thankful! Sew day ahead!
Oh, what i would give to be snowed in a cabin for awhile. Thanksgiving meal will be Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket Hubby is ill and thats what he wants ... Enjoy your day I'm thankful for you and your blog everyday Xxx
Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving, I know mine will be quite different, I usually have dinner for up to 23 people, this year only 3 of us, the hubster and my one daughter who still lives at home, so dinner will be simple.
I so enjoy reading your blog everyday, I have yet to attempt one of your quilts, I think I am terrified and have no idea where to start :) but love seeing everyone's work.
Just the two of us but we'll zoom with family. Vegetarian so lasagna, green beans almondine, crescent rolls traditional in his family and pumpkin pie. Feeling so blessed and grateful. Like Cats in Carlsbad I love reading the blog with morning coffee and feel connected and uplifted every day. Thanks Bonnie and happy Thanksgiving to all.
Love what you give to the quilting community on a daily basis. Thank you so much.
We had a friend lived in what would now be a 100 year old house with a huge. single pane, original glass, picture window looking out over the Tacoma Narrows. At least 7' wide and 5' tall. He came to the conclusion that glass is a liquid as the bottom of the pane was about 1/4" thicker than the top. Go figure, huh!
Stay warm and safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
Lovin this quilt Bonnie. Have a peaceful, happy Thanksgiving. Better days are ahead! Bring 'em on.
Will pray for your family. My mom had Alz also , it is very difficult to deal with. All you can do is tell her that you love her, and pray. Hugs ann
You have been added to my "Things for which I am thankful" list, along with the wonderful quilters who share their ideas and photos. Happy Thanksgiving!
Since I'm WFPB like last year there will be no turkey in this house. However, I can have all the yukon golds and sweet potatoes I want plus salad; now that's a win!! I'll splurge with an apple or pumpkin pie.
I think the solid binding/border against the plaids is perfect!! Very homey!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!! ~Merri π₯π π§ π§π₯π₯¦π₯π₯§
We will be celebrating with our little circle of 7. Our children and their families. I will face time my dear sisters and our parents as well. Traditional Thanksgiving fare because we all need to feel normal and it reminds me of my dear grandma π΅. Maybe some board games after we eat. Happy Thanksgiving π¦ππ½
I am curious as to where the QPO is located? Is it part of the Inn? By the way, I think Lola is the perfect supervisor.
ππ»For you and your family Dalina. Have a very Blessed Thanksgiving π
Take care, Jody
Such a warm inviting quilt, love it! Now I know what I'll do with a shelf full of plaids. Thank you for sharing your talent and instructions to go along with it. I'm so appreciative of what and who you are. You just make the world a better place.
Our Thanksgiving will be different as well as Christmas. I usually have about 20 for Thanksgiving and at least 35 for the first weekend in December. Both have been cancelled. I'm ok with it and am blessed with having my husband and my mom with me. That will be our Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. I will actually have more time to sew!
My grandson, who lives with us, tested positive so we will be two for lunch and one in quarantine up in his room. Menu is going to be much less. Pies, a few.
Love your sugarloaf quilt. The plaids are wonderful.
What do you do with Lola when you are snowed in? Think she must get lonely.
It was going to be me and my husband so we splurged and ordered a small prime rib roast. Then my grandson called to let me know he and his wife were moving from Washington state to Florida and they would pass though our town. Offered them a meal but was not aware they were going to be here on Thanksgiving. So we increased the size of the roast and added another side and a pie to the dinner plans. It will be good seeing them.
First year in quite a few that we have been alone. However, due to our age and the Covid, we are being very careful. Several friends and family members we know got the Covid from eating with family and friends; sitting too close at the table, etc. But we have enjoyed over 40 years together, so we are pretending to be newlyweds with our first Thanksgiving alone. Ham instead of turkey, but still having dressing, asparagus, cranberry sauce, etc. Baked a German Chocolate pie this morning which we sampled at lunch to see it we liked it. Delicious and rich! Looking forward to the mystery as we are usually on the road to Florida the day after Thanksgiving. Jac Kilgo
I used to worry about not being to work on time during tropical storms and floods---but then I was supposed to be there for the marine department---if anyone understood weather delays, they certainly did---and since there was nothing I could do about it, and the only person possibly in danger in the situation would be me while attempting to be on time---I decide that things would just have to wait. Snow and ice are no different than tropical storms---if someone grumbles about late delivery--they are having a bad day---and you were just handy to fuss at. Enjoy the snow, be sure you listen to it falling---it is magical.
Dalina please do what you can to be your moms advocate if she is hopitalized- the staff needs to knwo that there is someone to be accountable to, someone who will be following up, someone who willbe asking the hard questions- too many patients are falling thru the cracks this year sadly.....
visited Chena this past Jan- amazing to be in 105 water when the air temp was -25......
Praying for you & your family!
our son is dropping off dinner for us. I am recoveriang from knee replacement and chose not to visit with the family although I miss them desparately. It's just safer for me. The grandsons are crying for Mema's rolls and cinnamon rolls. They will have to wait tiil I am more mobile. Blessings to all no matter where you are and who you celebrate with.
Happy Thanksgiving! I read somewhere that you can spritz your windows with water and put bubble wrap on them to help keep out the cold and still let light in..sounds like it would help and not leave a mess to clean up in the spring.
Happy Thanksgiving, Bonnie. May it be the perfect day fitting for someone who brings so much joy to so many.
My friend's Mom, just passed away. Aunt Hazel was 95, sharp as a tack and one of the nicest women who ever lived. May your grandbaby live as long, be as smart and kind as Aunt Hazel. Enjoy that wonderful little one.
Our daughter often works the holidays as a nurse practictioner, and she will work today, as it is a day she does not have to pay for childcare as her husband is off. We are here to help him with the two babies under 2 1/2 while she works. I will make either Italian Beef or Spagetti today (turkey will be tomorrow when she is home with us). Our other daughter decided to stay put, trying to help not be a part of the spread. We will miss her and her beautiful family.
Usually go to BIL house, but he almost died from covid in April so we will not be gathering. Will cook a small turkey, sides and pie and take food over to my MIL. Me and the dog will hang out and sew....
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to all! Bonnie, I sure appreciate your blog every day. Thank you. You are always so upbeat! Just the 2 of us and picking up our meal at the community dinner. Need to stay safe.
We had our Thanksgiving in Canada on October 10th...Love to you and all the family, including the Fur-Babies, and the Hubster!.. Looking forward to the Mystery.
Very thankful for you Bonnie and all your lovely daily posts. You are part of keeping this lady sane in an insane time! Blessings! and Love!
Happy Thanksgiving from California. We just had a ZOOM visit from our children and their families. We are trying to keep everyone safe this year.
We will have a small dinner for three as daughter has moved in to help take care of her Dad who has cancer.
Looking forward to the mystery and thank you Bonnie for all.
Bonnie, we too have an old house not far from Flight 93 that had an old single pain picture window that had condensation from the temp changes. We keep the heat at a minimum unless we are there to enjoy a weekend. Hubby had glass cut to fit to put on the outside of the window making it a double pain to avoid the condensation without the expense of totally replacing. Maybe that could be a fix for the QPO.
For the front door issue, have you considered putting on a storm door?
