Blue Spruce & Pine Tree Point!

"I'll have a Blue Christmas without you...." sang Elvis!

I'll have a glad Blue Christmas - where blue is not bad or sad at all!

Talk about a fast and fun project, guaranteed to bring some early holiday cheer - even if it IS still officially before Thanksgiving, where early Christmas cheer is somewhat taboo and frowned upon here in the USA.

AND IT MAKES NO SENSE!  Besides the fact that it is 2020 after all.

Saturday -while Mona quilted up a storm at the long arm, I pieced my way through the making of my very blue version of Pine Tree Point at the sewing machine.

Mona's Appalachian Autumn under the needle!

Trimmed and ready for binding!  Great job, my friend!

While all of this was going on we were discussing how upset people get if Christmas celebrations start "too early" or "before Thanksgiving" here in the states.

The fact of the matter is - you can blame it on Thanksgiving dates.  If we had chosen to celebrate Thanksgiving in OCTOBER like Canadians do, there would be no such thing as "too early!" to get in the Christmas spirit right now.

It's not Christmas's fault.  So just give in and enjoy it!  And if the two holidays meld together - is that truly a bad thing?

The one thing I am loving about this year is being "socially distant" from all of the commercialism of both Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Christmas.

This year SIMPLICITY is something to rejoice over as we celebrate at home with our children staying away and staying safe within the bubbles of their own abodes.

One thing is for certain - this is a holiday season we will often remember and talk about.

On my side of the QPO while Mona quilted -

Miles and miles of string border!

Until finally - the last side is going on!

And it didn't stop there -

As Mona was making her way home, about an hour's drive south of me, I was pulling a backing, and finding a batting scrap big enough - taking over control of the long arm!

Simple quilting is all that this needs!

Something resembling a clam shell fan.  Can't remember the name.

(Will check later today)

Perfect binding from the stash -

And a couple of binding evenings ahead!

(I should finish tonight!)

You’ll find the PDF pattern for Pine Tree Point, including both the lap size and the runner in the Digital Patterns section of the Quiltville Store.

My #mediafreesunday was everything I hoped it would be.  I didn't spend the entire day sewing - in fact, there was laundry running, and some kitchen cleaning including a scrub down of the gas kitchen stove burner grates - not to mention giving the microwave a good going over -

But it was a wonderful day to step away from it all and just NEST in my own space, not worrying about work for just ONE DAY.

I did get to some late afternoon piecing, and feet up with binding finished off the day along with the snuggles of these two:

I firmly believe that #mediafreesunday is the best gift one can give to themselves.  The world will still be here on Monday.

And since it is Monday - We've got a November Quilty Box to give away!

In search of entry 2424 of 5984!

Rhonda Cavin!  This is your box!

Blue is my favorite color! It’s beautiful!

I love the choices you have made for your runners, green, blue and now red! Love them! I missed the deadline for the discount of the pattern. But I have so many projects going on that I need to slow down. Maybe in the near future I can get the pattern. Thank you for a glimpse into your life. Love the antics of your fur babies. I had been wondering about Mona. I am so glad you two were able to get together. She is a star with 40 quilts under her belt. Definitely not a "new" quilter. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

My stove died and I don't care! 2020 what else ya got? Our granddaughter has been in the hospital 5 months with COVID and its aftermath. She ate some beef broth and jello yesterday and got up on a walker on her own. That is what is important and we are rejoicing. Gonna have a thankful sew day today. Virtual hugs to you, Bonnie! I really love the blue trees, I already started on the green, but I will make a blue one too! Glad your enjoying your media free day, your right we all deserve a break from work at least one day a week!

Your Sunday being media free is a great idea. You work just as hard as those who take weekends off so you deserve it for sure. I am truly close to my kids. They live within 20 miles of me and we get together often. This year is different. My son has been exposed to COVID through his work, therefore since I was with him Friday picking up my grandson, I am now in quarantine. Thanksgiving will still be cooked and delivered via porch drop off. We have to adjust to what has to be. Have a wonderful day. Waiting for Friday since I am not quarantined from the computer. LOL

I have this project on my list as the Leader/Ender for Grassy Creek, but I may just have to make it this week while I wait for Friday. My colors for Christmas are more Blue and White this year. It's perfect! Love Elvis singing in my head this morning too. Thanks for the earworm.

I think I like your blue and white version even better than the green one, which is pretty remarkable, as I absolutely LOVE the green one!!!

Love the blue table runner, perfect gift idea!
As it relates to cleaning stove grates, soak them in liquid ammonia overnight. If the stove grates are large ones ( like I have) use large black trash bags...the grease a d debris will just wipe off or fall off after soaking over night.

Christmas decorating commences on Black Friday as I refuse to be part of that insanity. Have all my colors pulled and ready for clue #1. Have a wonderful Monday Bonnie.

Love those blue trees!! Our tree ornaments are blue this year!! Being in Florida our home decor is aqua & blue accents! My heart goes out to "stretchmarks" with a granddaughter in the hospital 5 months!! We assume the younger ones can handle this, but not always the case! Prayers for her discharge soon!! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

What a great photo of Ivy and Zoey cuddled like that. My two were almost close last night on our bed. Hope springs eternal!

You know I have encountered the blue spruce color in fabric and may just have some in my too large for me stash. I have it in my head to make one in that color although it may be a constant rather than a scrappy. Of course I have these grand ideas that never make it to the table but that's what's in my head today. LOL

Never heard of the mystery quilt until this year when I saw something pop up on my FB page. I have joined what I can find about Bonnie and Quiltville. I am so looking forward to this mystery quilt and what I will be learning. Thank you for taking the time to spread joy...well, I hope it will be joy and not frustration...LOL. Thank you

I have a question. Why does this (daily post) show up in my inbox the day after it is posted. Is there something I need to do to fix this?

Amy H said...

I am a one holiday at a time person. I really enjoy the simplicity of Thanksgiving. No presents to buy or wrap. Limited decorating. Just really good food and time with the family to slow down and appreciate. I also love my family’s tradition of skipping the Black Friday craziness to put up the tree and begin the Christmas season. That said, I’m working on letting everyone do whatever pleases them, so Christmas away! 😊

Jennifer Rauch said...

Love the new blue trees, tho I'm not a blue person! Maybe an organized scrappy version might resemble a decorated Christmas tree. . . I get your post a day late too, which throws me a little where deadlines are concerned. No worries, I have plenty of projects! Just finished the ornament for the year, so will be sending it with gifts across the country soon to the grands. We've moved a lot, so when I am missing friends, I play my Christmas music for a while, even if it is August or whenever. Cue the Mame song "We need a little Christmas, right this very minute. . .!" Really enjoy your blog!

Pictures of Zoey and Ivy just steal my heart. I made the difficult decision not to have any more animals 18 years ago when I had to put my last dog to sleep. He had recurring liver cancer and managed to live just 4 weeks after my husband died. So I live vicariously through other peoples' pets. Thank you for sharing your pets so generously.
