Let the Quilting Begin!

There is much of THIS going on!

I was able to finish loading the Blossom Time quilt yesterday, and started quilting.

Choosing the right thread color is always the challenge -

I tend to want the quilting texture to show, without the quilting thread upstaging the fabrics.

My thread color of choice?  A taupey-beige that crosses all areas just fine and doesn’t shout as “too white” against the darks or “too dark” against the light backgrounds of the blocks.

I also wanted a quilting design that added great texture but didn’t become the main event detracting from my favorite part – the patchwork -

The quilting design I chose is called Hyacinth Grande from UrbanElementz.com.

I gravitate toward leafy, viney and feathery things, and this one is so pretty.

Just the touch this quilt needs!

And yes – those pieced sashings are worth it!

I made it about half-way yesterday -

I will continue on as time allows – but today is an errand day!  I like going mid-week as stores are not nearly as crowded.

Rain is supposed to happen by 11am, and continue until 8pm tonight – and the forecast doesn’t look much better for the rest of the week either, so today it is.

Two new arrivals!

I had been searching for “breeze proof” napkin holders for the porch tables – both for the cabin, and Quiltville Inn.

These rustic tin versions are just SO STINKING CUTE!  I love the galvanized kitchen/porch things and these will fit right in.

I love how the handles overlap – they don’t need to be lifted to retrieve a napkin – just pull the napkin and the wooden handle beads will just roll allowing that napkin out.

I have added these to the In the Kitchen category of the Quiltville Amazon Affiliate Store.

And this happened while talking to Dad last night!

I’m a multi-tasker.  I always have been.  Yet Dad’s hearing aids pick up every sound from my end, so talking while chopping and cooking, or emptying the dishwasher or even sewing is a distraction to him.

However – pressing and cutting is a silent task and I made good use of cutting out of few more Nearly Lemoyne blocks while we chatted last night.

By the time the conversation was done – it was feet up in the comfy chair time – last night’s round of stitching brought me to a 44 block count on the hexie star and string block applique project.  Moving right along!

And that leads me to where we are now.  Time to kick Wednesday into gear so I can get those errands done and get back to the quilting machine by afternoon.

That’s the goal anyway – how about things on your end?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Don't quit your day dreams!

Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!

Simple border on a quilt top. I rarely do pieced borders this will be a border with 4 inches of a neutral 2 of a bright and 4 more inches of neutral. Cornerstones complete the look.

I can relate to your dad’s hearing aid problem! When I got mine I was so surprised how loud my refrigerator was! Even rustling of paper is a distraction! I’m so glad you talk daily to him!

I dream of no covid :)
New cases are under control here at the moment but school is starting soon, so we'll see what happens then.
I'm cutting scraps for easy breezy blocks.

I love your choice of thread and quilting pattern for the Blossom Time quilt, it's surprising how long it can take just to choose thread & pattern, but it was so worth it!

How did you mark this quilt? Looks like only a little at a time. What are your marking tools? Love the happy spring look.

Blossom time is looking so good. Our day was cooler and cloudy with sun breaks. Perfect day for my running around. Now to finish putting sashing on the quilt top I am working on. Have a great day!

Love you blossom time quilt! I have a question, please ... why do I (we?) get your blog a day late? For instance, what you wrote on the morning of 8/12, appears in my inbox at 12:?? am on 8/13? Do you ruminate on it during the day and release it later in the day? I'm just curious .. when I read "have a nice Weds." but it is actually Thursday.

Thanks for sharing your quilting pattern with us

If you want the quilting to show, but not the thread itself, try a thread such as Bottom Line in both needle and bobbin in a neutral color.

You signed up for the digest version to show up in your inbox. That digest includes everything that is posted during the day - but sends to you later in the day - you open it the next morning. If you want to read me "in real time" come directly to my blog in the morning, do not wait for email notification (which comes later.)

RE the skinny sashing on that beautiful Blossom Time tulip quilt. Years ago Jackie Robinson did a book on Frank Lloyd Wright inspired wall hangings. She had tips on dealing with skinny strips for the "lead". Perhaps someone out there has that info.

I asked this question: I downloaded some digital patterns from your store by guest email and how do I get them back to download them again? I know I have more downloads available for each item.

I absolutely love the border on the tulip quilt. The whole quilt is very beautiful sitting on the long arm. Your work is always so inspiring and you make it look so easy. Thank You for my daily read!!!

She is using a long-arm machine, so she is not marking her quilt. She uses a computerized system, I believe.

Love, love, love your Blossom Time quilt. Will have to get that pattern. I need a lovely design for my scraps. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

When the Blossom time pattern comes out in your book, will instructions include the uber-skinny, pieced sashing? I love it! That sashing pulls the whole quilt together.
