For the Love of Ivy!

Yes!  Ivy gets to stay!

I took Ivy to the vet on Monday, curious as to anything we could find about her.

Vets in the time of pandemics are interesting places with even more interesting protocols put in place, as we found out when we brought Zoey home in March.

Call from the parking lot.  They will call you back when it is time to bring your pet into the front vestibule.  One client at a time, and you must be masked.

A vet tech will meet you and your pet in the vestibule, take down important information, and then take your pet through the inner door into the vets office while you wait in your car.

They checked all the usual things, no chip was found.  they shaved a bit of Ivy’s belly fur.  There is a spay scar – so at least there is that.

But she’s been outside for a while – flea and tick meds were administered, and I have some drops to give her twice a day in her ears – mites and fungus present.

I wish I knew the story of how she came to be at the QPO – but it is safe to say that her future story will be happier than her past one.

As to how she and Lola are getting along?

There is much curiosity between them, and only a little bit of hissing if one or the other gets too close.  But Lola is up to her old antics of pole dancing on the cat tree, using her scratching post and purring and accepting of the extra love I have been lavishing on her.

I think we are going to do just fine!

And from these photos – you can see that I spent yesterday laying out and starting the assembly process for my Blossom Time quilt!

And yes – those sashings are NARROW, so here is my hint of the day for you.  If you are sub-cutting strip sets into narrow increments – do your strip set sewing with a SMALLER STITCH.

Keeping those seams from coming undone after cross-cutting has been a challenge.  I’ve had to resew in loads of places to anchor them and I know there will be more places to resew as I start joining rows together.

This should give you an idea -

And I didn’t notice until this morning when editing the photos that my lens was not as clean as I like it to be for photos – they turned out a bit hazy.

The block pattern for Blossom Time is found in the May/June 2019 issue of Quiltmaker Magazine in my Addicted to Scraps Column.  Digital copies are available.

This layout will appear in my next book – there is no pattern written yet as I am still working on the project. The quilt comes first, the pattern comes second.

Not sure what I will do for borders yet.  It’s a project in progress.

And all of this was happening while this visitor came along -

Prices were good for refilling the propane tanks in preparation for colder months ahead. Both the Quiltville Inn and cabin tanks were topped up.

You can see we had a beautiful August day in Southwestern Virginia yesterday.  That sunshine was beautiful!

Today – I’m making my weekly run to Wallburg to gather another van load of quilting stuff.  There are some other things we need as well.  I plan on being back by dinner time, so the continuation of Blossom Time quilt assembly will have to wait for another day.

Anything happening for your Wednesday?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

When you know better, hopefully you do better!

Love this vintage elongated hexagon!

Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!

LOVE the way the quilt forms that secondary pattern. LOVE that Ivy can stay with you. So glad she is not “with kittens” I hope she has not shared fleas with your other fur babies.

I really like the Bloosom Time quilt, thank you for sharing your creativity. Safe travels.

That picture of Lola peeking out from underneath your table with the fabric on her face looks like she's saying, "will this work as a mask Mom?" So glad Zoey and Ivy became part of your family during these upside down times. I'm sure it has been good for them and for you! Have a beautiful day Bonnie ❤

Your quilt is beautiful. Makes my heart smile. Love your fur babies. We have none due to allergies. We were both raised on a farm so had outside pets. The cats were good mousers and the dog was mans best friend. Went to the field with daddy every day. So many good memories. So we love seeing yours. Have a good and safe day in your travels. I remember when we lived in Greensboro we would go to the mountains of Virginia and pick apples in the fall. I remember my husband asking the farmer one year who owned that mountain over there and the farmer said it’s for sale, do you want to buy it. Beautiful area. Loved it. The valley was so pretty in the evening watching all the towns light up. America is wonderful.

We also had an interesting vet visit yesterday. Stay in the car. A vet tech comes out & retrieves your pet. Convenient & safe! Love the quilt. Working on Pineapple Crazy & it's making me a bit crazy. Takes me about 3 hrs to complete 1 block--always searching the scraps for the smallest patch to use but it tickles me no end to use a scrap the size of a fingernail.

I am really enjoying the "When you know better, do better" quote. It helps to let go of what I could have done better in the past and go forward. I really, really like the layout of Blossom Time, but it is creating another "squirrel moment"! You are the best!

Ooooh, those narrow sashes inside the blocks are super effective. Very cool how they're echoing the flower stems and creating an abstract geometric design. Such a happy quilt!

Glad things worked out so well with Ivy. She sure seems like a sweetheart.

Love the quilt! Not happening today, but this weekend have to put tubs of fabric back and be able to get in my sewing room. Let my daughter and a friend go through tubs while I was at work looking for fabric for masks. What was I thinking!

That's what our vet does, too. Call when you park the car and wait. I like that my cat and I don't have to wait in the waiting room with dogs.

I love how you've chosen to set your Blossom Time blocks! It's amazing how different they look when you put the "stem ends" together. Very happy to hear you can keep Ivy! She's already worked her way into your hearts, it would have been sad to give her up. Thanks again for sharing with us!!

I find it interesting that the vets are taking more precautions than the doctors are...🤔. Congratulations on the new addition to the family. We all look forward to hearing the progress and antics of all the animal babies... Enjoy that beautiful weather!

Went looking for the pattern. It is in the March/April 2019 edition. To my surprise I found the magazine right off in my stash.

Your Blossomtime quilt is looking gorgeous. I am going to go pull that magazine out and lay it on the (huge) pile of ideas for what I want to do in the near future. It is a good distraction while I wait several weeks for specialist appointments. Everyone is so backed up, that even "urgent" means several weeks. So glad Ivy and Lola are starting to bond.

I am so happy Ivy....Kitty gets to stay with you:)
I hope she and Lola will come to an agreement of being friends and have a wonderful life together. Of course, Zoey is being accepted by both as I understand it. Then of course there is the other cat (can't think of her name right now) inside with all of you, and I trust she and Zoey will continue to get along. I love love love all your furry animals. I get my "animal fix" weekly through your wonderful blog!! Just so cool!!! I

Love the color green you used for your sashing. Was there another kitten on the other side of the fence?

Recovering from a tooth extraction and excited that once the pain is gone I can get back to quilting, 2 babies behind. Love today's quote, may I share it? Have some family who need to read this.

I love your kitty! Do look into Dr. Karen Becker's information at Mercola Healthy Pet. Since you don't know about her supplements would probably be a good idea to boost Ivy's immune system.

Beautiful quilt. Love the sashing. So glad you get to keep Ivy. Her, Lola and Zoey will be good for each other. Enjoy your sun. Glad you haven't had any bad weather from the hurricane that went up the East Coast. Good verse to ponder. I love the sayings you come up with. I save some to remember. Best wishes. Thanks for the update.

Hi Bonnie really love the quilt and can't wait for the pattern. I especially like the skinny green sashing. It really sets off the blocks. The Blossom Time block is in the March/April 2019 Quiltmaker which I was just looking at not the the May/June issue. Just thought you would like to know.

Oh Bonnie, I love your blossom time quilt. It's so happy, and the geometric design where the stems meet is such a nice delicate companion to the curvy, pretty blossoms. In Oregon, where we just moved from Idaho to, I receive your wonderful daily presentations a day late. It is Thursday morning for me. I too thank you deeply for sharing yourself and your doings with us. You are a lovely new friend. I hope this day is a good one for you, no matter whatever day it is. ha ha

Hooray for Ivy. She now has a good home, and Zoey will be very happy too. You are a very good pet Mom.

As always, I love your designs. Blossom Time is wonderful. I have the magazine and am looking forward to digging it out. Love the pictures of Ivy. If I could, I would have a cat, but too many people in my family are allergic. Nancy A: SewingGranda@gmail.com
