Blossom Time Top Completion!

And I would be right down with her doing the same, only if I did – I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to get back up again!

The dreaded skinny sashing debacle continued yesterday – in rounds between getting mail out, and meeting up with the gutter guy who is going to FINALLY get gutters up around Quiltville Inn, and I wish it could have happened 2 years ago when we bought the place.  But all things in due time, and gutters are next on the list of big things to happen.

I mean – the house has waited 136 years, what’s the rush? LOL!

But in all seriousness, without gutters, rain splash back (And boy were we caught in a deluge yesterday afternoon!) so much damage can happen due to splash back, etc. 

This will all happen in about 9 to 12 weeks depending on their schedule.  At least we are in the queue.

 

And this is how I ended up handling those skinny sashings.

I had webbed the whole top together so rows were attached to rows.  I cut the chaining threads in be tween a block row and a sashing row, and then tediously re-stitched every seam on the sashing row with back tacking at the beginning and end of each seam so things held together.  Regular stitching just wouldn’t do it.  Even smaller stitches are *not enough* when the sashing finishes at a mere 1/2’’. 

Had I to do it all over again – if I had known HOW I was going to set these blocks before I made them, would have built my sashing as leaders and enders, back-tacking each seam all along the way while making the blocks.  And then the sashing would have been complete – for in between the blocks, and the sashing rows.

I hope this makes sense – this is how my brain just works through things realizing what would have made it easier along the way, had I known.

And I am loving the secondary designs!

So was it worth it?

Kind of like childbirth – you hate it when you are going through it, but once the deed is done there is a huge sense of accomplishment and – that wasn’t so bad! LOL!

And then there is the realization that truly random means that 3 tulips from 3 completely different blocks will end up in this photo all with the same leaf fabric.

I give this a big “WHATEVER!” and let it be.

Also – even though I pinned like the dickens, sometimes the neutral sashings don’t quite line up.  I’m not going to worry or stress or focus on that, and I hope you won’t either.

Really loving it!

No pedicure and no apologies.  I just can’t stomach the thought of strangers touching my feet right now.  Maybe next year?

The full pattern for Blossom Time will appear in my next book, publication date pending.  It will not be available as a digital pattern. But even though I personally do not ship internationally, my books are available through your local retailers and online sources from within your own country. 

I’m going to take a break on this one for a couple of days – this morning is PERFECT for a hike up to see the ponies.  I’ve already got my hiking shoes on, and Zoey is ready to go -

Well, maybe not.  LOL!

I bet I could coax her with a treat or two – Come on, Zoey – it’s windows down in the van time! Let’s go find all the smells!
