It is indeed and beautiful Christmas Morning at the cabin!
This is a very short post, as our goal today as a family is to spend time together in the same room, not apart in our own corners of the cabin each attached to our own mobile devices and computers.
There are favorite old movies to watch. There is a pumpkin pie baking in the oven for tonight’s dessert – filling the cabin with spicy hints of cinnamon and nutmeg, and Christmas music is playing through the sound bar via my favorite holiday channel – James Taylor Holiday.
A family funny – did you catch that the presents are wrapped using electrical tape to hold the paper on? When you live this remotely, it isn’t possible to always just go buy scotch tape. This was The Hubster’s doing. Whatever could be found on his work bench was what had to be good enough.
The sunrise was the best gift of the day. Click to play:
Yesterday was SO great – all 3 of us in festive moods working at the inn.
Paint, like a fresh layer of snow – makes all things clean and new!
I'm going to need more paint! But not today. Today is for relaxing and reflection and just BEING, not doing.
While I worked on painting, The Hubster and son worked on setting the foundation for the wood stove hearth, And cut a required hole in the den ceiling to access some joists and stabilize where the ceiling fan will be going. It's a family affair!
More photos to come from that experience, another time, another day.
On the fun side - I got to use all of my new pots and pans and kitchen stuff and make tacos for lunch for everyone! We ate it in front of the Quilting Quarters fireplace with the fire burning. It was awesome!
Even more fun was using the dishwasher to wash up the dishes and pans. It doesn’t take much to make this girl happy.
Some evening sewing!
I’ve been working on these behind the scenes. The center nine-patches are from recycled shirts. I love the timeless appeal of recycled plaid and stripes with some fun prints mixed in.
The red triangles? Bonus, baby! These are all of the bonus triangles left from the making of my Hunter’s String Star quilt. It’s a two-for-one thing. If there is the opportunity to make bonus triangles along with the making of any project – I do it. I know I will find a place for them somewhere.
Bonus of another kind!
While these triangles were a different size – gifted to me by someone who was ready to pass them on – I made instant bonus of them by trimming them to the bonus 2’’ size I needed by placing the 1 1/2’’ finished line on the Simple Folded Corners ruler just above the seam line to allow for pressing, the height of the seam and the turn of the cloth and simply trimmed 2 sides before pressing and removing dog ears. These will be used in this project, too. I cleared out a cupboard, re-purposed some triangles that were not the right size, used up a bunch of bonus triangles easily in this project while digging into my strip bins of recycled fabrics – SO MUCH FUN!
Sadie memories – 7 years ago!
However you spend your Christmas day, may it be softened and warmed by thoughts of those you love, of things you are grateful for.
It takes just as much effort to think of something positive as it does something negative. Which one has better benefits?

Merry Christmas!!! xoxox
lol. I used green painters tape that matched the wrapping paper.
Merry Christmas to your family!
Christmas Eve for us has become game night. My daughter brought a great game this year called Codenames. It involves giving a one word clue so that your partner guesses the correct words on the board without saying the other sides words. We played late into the night. The best part of Christmas is just spending time together.
Merry Christmas.
May each of you feel how Blessed you are each and every day.
Merry Christmas Bonnie, Dave and family and blessings throughout the New Year.

Merry Christmas Bonnie to you and your family. Wishing you a Very Happy New Year
A blessed Merry Christmas to you and your family including your sweet Sadie.
Bonnie, I had to laugh about the tape. Living in a rural area, sometimes we have to make do, either because we run out or because we go to town and they have run out. (Unheard of in Southern Cal, where we came from.) But another reason it made me laugh is that my family is really good at wrapping, learned from my mom: crisp corners, edges turned down, packages look good. My brother once showed a girl at the gift wrap station how to do something better and she thanked him, sincerely. My partner is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Not to be rude, but he is honestly awful at wrapping--every year my packages are pieced together, with random paper taped on to cover up the place where he miscalculated and came up short--and the paper he tapes on is Xerox paper, or something odd and glaringly out of place. So, last night he said to me, "You like that even though I'm terrible at wrapping I really make an effort, right?" I assured him that I really appreciate it, and that I like his personally wrapped packages better than something in an Amazon bag. That's why, when I saw the box with the electrical tape on it, I had to laugh. I'm sure you like that better than something wrapped by a stranger, and it makes a better memory, too.
Merry Christmas to you and yours Bonnie! Wishing you peace and rest.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, bonnie. Glad to see that you enjoyed your day.
