With Love and Remembrance

1743546_10152207798098909_1029490339_n_thumb
My little brother Mark slipped peacefully into eternity last night at 9:05pm Pacific time.

No more struggle.  No more suffering.  No more debilitating brain cancer.

I will miss him every minute of every day in every way possible as long as I live.

My heart is ripping into so many pieces. I don't know if I would be able to find them all and even begin to repair a heart that functions.

I will be making arrangements to get to Arizona. My apologies to the guilds I was to visit in September, but family always comes first. We will also pick up those pieces at a later time.

My family and I need this time to gather not only to mourn, but to remember all the good times and to find the way to keep that spark that was Mark alive in each one of us.

20160220_105613_thumb

He was such an example to me on how to be happy no matter what.

He never had an angry word to say, he was always the first one there to help anyone with anything – he was a wonderful father to his 5 beautiful children, and grandfather to his beautiful granddaughters.

To say he will be greatly missed is the world’s most absurd understatement one can make.

20160220_110016[3]

He really had a genuine love for others that can not be contained.

20161112_144351_thumb

Mark and his son Spencer with daughter-in-law McKenna.

Playing with a round of my Bonnie Hunter playing cards.

(He said it was most appropriate that *I* was the joker.)

He struggled long and hard over the past 5 years since he was first diagnosed with glioblastoma.

And our family has grown to love each other more through this process.

You may remember my other 4 brothers jumping in to have their heads shaved in a show of love, support and solidarity when the chemo first took Mark’s hair:

December 28, 2013.

This is how family pulls together.  We pulled together for Mark, and now we pull together to hold each other up so we can hang on and start our new normal without him physically amongst us, but always with us in spirit.

20180818_071439

The three oldest – before the others came along and enriched our family.

20180819_182855

Mark and Sharolyn.

From this moment I am taking life moment by moment.

I know there are orders that have come in during the month of August, and I was planning on starting to send those out today.  I can’t today.

They will get done.  Thank you for understanding my delay.

As my wonderful friend Jessica told me as only Jessica can – “Those people can wait for their freaking pencils – family is more important!”

Well yes, Jess – since you put it that way.

Yes.  Yes it is.

One of the hardest things to do is to say goodby to someone you love. Those of us who love you totally understand and agree that family comes first. Sending warm hugs and love to you, and prayers for the peace and understanding that can only come from above.

Oh Bonnie! Much love and many prayers of peace and comfort sent to you and your family. I lost my dad 8yrs ago to the same type of brain cancer. Letting go is a struggle and I truly believe that we don't completely let go. We find a new normal. Big hugs.

As one of those members in one of those guilds, I want to let you know I haven't heard anyone say anything but, "Of course, she needs to be with family." Wishing you a sweet time together with your family.

Sadly, it’s always harder for those left behind, even though we know our loved one is no longer suffering. Take comfort in your family and remember the wonderful memories. I so enjoyed watching again the video of your brothers shaving their heads in support of Mark. What a good looking bunch of brothers, even without hair. You have a special family... You will find all the pieces of your heart and it will become whole again. Until then, our love and prayers go out to you and your family.

Oh Bonnie, I am so sorry to hear this! I can understand what you are going through because I have been there myself losing my sister to cancer way too early. The best advice I can give you was given to me at that time was If you can't handle life at this time, take it a day at a time, if not a day, then an hour if not an hour then a minute, if not a minute, then you can handle a tick of the clock at a time. It helps to remember just a tick at a time and you will get through. Love you and hope this helps!!!!!

My deepest condolences to you and family for your loss. I will share one of my favorite poems about loss by Mary Oliver: To live in this world

To Live in this world
you must be able to do three things:
To love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
Your own life depends on it;
And, when the time comes to let
it go,
to let it go.

What a beautiful tribute. There are no words to express the deep heartfelt sympathy I feel for you at this time. You will find peace in clinging on to the memories and bonding that will take place as time marches forward. A flood of feelings have overtaken my heart as I am reflecting on the loss of a brother and only sister to cancer. I know you will cherish each memory and strive to make more with the family left behind. May God bless you and your family in your efforts to move forward in a time that you knew was coming but still is remarkably difficult to see come to a reality. Love and thoughts to you and the family as you gather to celebrate a remarkable life and battle well fought.

Bonnie, your description of your brother fits my dad to perfection, and I still miss him every day. Sometimes with a chuckle, sometimes with a tear or two. I ache for you and your family. I've been where you are and understand the pain.
My sister died 3 years ago at age 68...I miss her every day and think about all of the fun times we had together. However, her memories live on within me and the hole in my heart will never heal, but always be a reminder of how much she was loved. "Let the tears come, let them water your soul" was written on a card I received at the time.

Thank-you for sharing your beautiful words during this this unimaginable time. I called my brother and regret that this was the nudge I needed.

Dear Bonnie, as I read your post and look at the pictures, I am hurting for you and with you. I pray for you and your family, and for Mark's family. I promise you the hole you now feel in your heart will heal, will once again be filled with all the memories of sweet times you shared with Mark. I lost a wonderful brother, Cliff, who meant so much more to me than I can express. Cliff is one of five brothers I have. He and I talked on the phone every week, (I in AZ and Cliff in NY) and he never ceased to make me laugh. I thought my heart would never heal when Cliff left us, but in time I found my self remembering so many of the special times we shared, the fun times we shared, the times he held me up when my life was heading downward. I now feel the hole in my heart filled with all the love he showered on me and the way he never let me down. The video you shared of your brothers all getting their heads shaved made me smile and cry at the same time. Condolences and prayers to you and your family. Sharon Luedeman, cv quilter

You never have to let go of a loved one, even if they have moved on without us, we just have to hold them close in a different way. Prayers and Blessings to you and yours Bonnie. Grief is a never ending process, it never goes away but it does get different.

Dear Bonnie, I am so sorry to hear about your brother and my heart breaks for you and your family. Sending prayers and hugs your way. You have such a way with words and even though I am very sad, I am also comforted with your words. Much love.

Oh Bonnie, my heart breaks for you. I understand the pain you are going through and the need to be with family right now. I lost my husband Friday the 13th of July this year and found out my older brother had bladder cancer 3 weeks before that that has spread to his spine, lung and liver. Right now he is in the hospital again with pneumonia. Family helps you get through this along with faith in the lord. My prayers are with you and your family as you struggle with this loss.

Dear Bonnie, unfortunately I know your pain. My lovely younger brother passed suddenly 2 years ago in his early 50's, and all I wanted was to be with my family.
