Day One in Chaska!

20170807_152938
The Chaska Community Center in Chaska, Minnesota was alive with quilter activity yesterday and will continue through tomorrow!

What a beautiful facility.

Big wall of windows.

Fabulous lighting!

Plenty of room to spread out and get down to the nitty gritty of making our Scrap Crystals Quilts! (Pattern from my MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders book.)

We were deep into triangles by 9:30 am and the fun continued all the way up until lunch – a fabulous salad/sandwich bar provided by the guild, and they did a beautiful job:

We’ve worked up quite a powerful hunger!

And I NEED to find this at home!  Oh, my!

Did you notice I bypassed the piecing and went straight to the yummies?  I couldn’t help myself.  This was SO so so so good, so I’ll be combing my Costco to pick some up.

And yes, we DID quilt our hearts out yesterday:

Playing in the purples!

And a sweet cherry red ride!

Oh ladies, these are wonderful!

But check this out!

Remember the wheelie chair platforms from Pennsylvania last month?  Here’s another alternative – These came from Camp Lebanon – a church camp that has women's quilting retreats in the fall and the spring.  I have no further info on these, but they pop onto any chair lifting you a couple inches higher, are lightweight and easy to transport.

If anyone has info on these, where they can be ordered or purchased, please leave your information in the comments section below!

Such a fun day, Minnesota style!

Complete with group hugs!

This is progress in BIG amounts!

Fabulous day, everyone!

You’ll find the rest of our day in the slide show below:

The day wasn’t done when class was done!

I was picked up my my friend Gudrun Erla of GE Designs, taken to her house and got face to face time with Koby, her dog, and a tour of her sewing/quilting/shipping operation which is similar to mine.  We all want to know that we are doing things in the best way possible, so it was a great affirmation to see how she has arranged her space, her shipping and storage processes – and we enjoyed a great chat for about an hour before heading back to meet with the guild girls for dinner out at the Crooked Pint at the Chaska Curling Center!

So great to see you, Gudrun!

Wonderful dinner out on the patio!

We had hoped that there would be some curling going on in the rink – but they curl on TUESDAY evenings, so we’ll have to plan accordingly next time.

Sunset on Wayzata Bay.  Nice.

It was a long day, and today we do it again.  Double Duty time.

Garden Party from the Addicted to Scraps book is up on deck, followed by my lecture tonight.  If you are anywhere near by, come on over.  We’ll be at the Chaska High School Auditorium, 545 Pioneer Trail, Chaska, MN 55318.  Doors open for my book signing at 6pm, followed by my lecture at 7pm – hope to see you there!

Those rollies are cool. I'd be interested in them, if someone knows where to find them.

Those look like furniture moving casters with tennis balls glued on to keep the legs from sliding off. Here is an example from Amazon without the tennis balls: http://a.co/haIp8Wx

They DO look like the "stove movers" with a tennis ball! Very clever & inexpensive idea!

Hi Bonnie, A quick thank you to Ellie, I looked it up and will bring a printout to our guild "The Material Girls Quilt Guild" on opening night in September. I know they will be excited. I was trying to look up the wheelie from July 2017 in PA, but couldn't find it. How do I look up past blogs on your site? I want to show it to a friend. He husband made me one and I want to compare prices. I so enjoy all that you do for us, you rock!! Kitty

My husband made mine. He bought the castors in an auto parts store and screwed the tennis balls on after slicing the ball in an x like fashion. They are great and a lot of the women in my quilting group have them!

Menard's has them at a great price, under $4 each. I don't know the cost of shipping.

Not sure how the have the tennis ball attached. The HD one has a hole in it and the Menard's does not. I can see how that is handy at a retreat when you don't have your chair that rolls around. Have fun Bonnie. Hugs

I googled tri wheel caster and came up with an image of those that you saw in use: https://camplebanon1947.wordpress.com/2016/12/23/special-purchase-opportunity-portable-chair-tri-casters-set-of-4/

looks like a tennis ball has been hot glued to a tri wheel caster. great idea!!

I've seen something similar to those castors at Harbor Freight!

Amazon.ca has them - A bit pricy... There is also Princess Auto in Ontario they have them also.

Bonnie:
I would have loved to have been there with you in Chaska! MN is the land of my birth also. I hope to do scrap crystals some day, but am so far behind, I do not know when it will be.

I got my new Quiltmaker magazine Wednesday, and was happy to find the Scrappy pumpkin Quilt in there! It looks so Happy to be all put together. You did a great job, as always!
