Boat Floatin’ Card Playing Fun!

20170812_114632
On my first trip up to Spicer, MN to spend a couple of days with my Uncle Steve and Aunt Kathryn!

Unbeknownst to us, they had purchased us tickets for a 2 hour boat ride around Green Lake!

This lake is sometimes also referred to as "Big Green Lake" because it is connected to Little Green Lake by a channel. Green Lake was named from the fact its waters are green from the high algae content.

How green is the water?  I really couldn’t tell until I looked at this photo AFTER the fact:

Oh yeah, that’s green!

I’m also thinking this would be another great retreat location!  HA!

It was a beautiful sunny day, and the blue sky was reflected on the surface of the water leaving it more blue than green at first sight.

A TWO hour tour, a TWO hour tour!!

We loaded up just before 11am along with other passengers for a very relaxing boat ride around the lake, enjoying the view of lake homes along the shore, watching water skiers and jet skis and other summer activities.  We found a comfy table to sit at on the top deck protected from the sun by the shade cover.  PERFECT DAY!

Mach 6 Makin’ Memories!

After returning home there were naps taken, some errands run, and meals fixed –there is no chance of starving with this family!  I whipped up a big pot of taco soup full of fresh veggies straight from Steve & Kathryn’s garden – and we settled in for an evening of card playing fun:

Russian Rummy, Mach Style!

We love playing with my Bonnie Hunter Playing Cards!

Cut throat Russian Rummy with 4 siblings!

And the win goes to Uncle Steve as I failed to notice (or remember) that if I played a 10, his Jack would complete the game – total skunk!

It was an evening to remember, and I hope we’ll be doing this again next year!

Quiltville Quote of the Day!

Cathedral Windows quilt shared during our Iowa workshops.

Sometimes I need to pay greater attention to this fact! Sometimes the lessons are reaffirmations that you are doing things right.  Like time with family.

Today we leave Spicer and head back to Maple Grove to pick up my luggage and get me to the airport in Minneapolis for my flight home.

I’m ready. It’s been a wonderful 11 day journey, but it’s time.

I’ll catch you from home!

Me thinks the green grass reflecting onto the water is what made the lake look so green. And it's a good thing you only took the 2 hour tour as it was that 3rd hour the did in that other tour boat. Glad you had a good time with family. Nothing is better than that.
