What a fun and full day yesterday! It’s a busy quilty weekend in Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
I was teaching for a retreat in Kentucky just a year ago this time, and I am so happy to see some familiar faces in these three days of workshops we are having near Louisville.
The energy and the excitement is high as we dig into our scraps and make some simple units that combine into fabulous quilts.
I think the best part is walking around the room and catching glimpses of conversation, topics varying in every direction possible – we are solving the worlds problem’s (or at least our own) while we press and cut and stitch and press some more.
Women especially – need a community. Or most of us do. Watching friends interact with friends and meet new friends along the way just just good for my soul. I love being surrounded by kind and giving women – you add so much to my life!
Oh, the strings! They were erupting everywhere!
Gorgeous neutral blocks!
Next up are the triangles!
Made so easy with the Essential Triangle Tool and cut from strips!
I am ecstatic to say that my green Elna grasshopper has been adopted! I came with 7 machines, I’m leaving with ZERO! It makes me so happy to share the vintage machine love with those who are excited to take home one of my babies. Thank you so very much. ENJOY!
This one was NOT mine!
It’s a General Electric!
1930s Warranty card!
Beverly brought in this gorgeousness just for me to look at. This machine was the pre-cursor to the featherweight. The General Electric Model "A" was called the Sewhandy. It was manufactured from July 1931 until 1934. It has a cast iron base and weighs 15 lbs.
I so loved seeing this machine, Beverly!

Well done, ladies!!
You’ll find the rest of our day’s fun in the slide show below.
After the workshop was over, Sherry, Irene and I headed out for a round of relaxing pedicures. I was feeling rather dead on my feet, and that was a WONDERFUL way to end the day.
Dinner at Irene’s, and a short round of evening sewing on a featherweight I borrowed from Irene brought the day to a close. It was lights out for me by 10:30pm.
Today we’ve got Scrap Crystals up on deck. Another full up day with 45+ in attendance. Let’s get this day going!
Tonight I’ll be drawing for the winner of the Quiltmaker Bundle! Did you enter to win on that post??
Quiltville Quote of the Day!
Vintage grandmother flower garden quilt found in Kentucky.
As Bryant McGill put it - "The feeling of being offended is a warning indicator that is showing you where to look within yourself for unresolved issues."
No one is MADE to feel offended. People choose to feel offended. This is something I post today because I am working on it within myself. There is so much of this going on everywhere I turn lately.
If we are offended by offensive people, they get what they want. And it ruins our day, not theirs.
If someone posts something you don’t like – that offends you – don’t read it. It doesn’t make them any less offensive, but it doesn’t have to have the desired effect on you.
Or me. Or anyone else.
Have a lovely Sunday, everyone!

I don't think the slide show is embedded. At least I can't get anything.
Enjoy the rest of your time in KY.
Beside being a first class friend, teacher and quilter, you would be would be a great motivational speaker. Like you need another job.
I also have trouble with being offended by offensive people.
I saw this quote somewhere
"I refuse to be offended by anyone, how someone else behaves is
none of my business"
It just reminds me that I only have to worry about my own behavior.
I choose to smile, and if it's really bad I say help me Jesus : )
Very well stated Bonnie thank you for sharing and opening my eyes
I spy some lovely neutrals in those blocks. Looks like a great workshop.

You are an inspiration too Bonnie. Thank you for all that you do. Robin Medley
I don't usually comment, but I felt inclined to do so today. I think the world would be a better place without all the social media crap. People post things that they would never have the nerve to say to your face. I believe that is a leading cause of depression and suicide in young people. If you have a strong sense of who you are, what others say doesn't really matter. And think how much more productive we would be if we were not connected to social media 24/7!!
It was a lovely workshop, I wish I could take one of your babies (sewing machines) home. If only I could. But I live in Greece, so it's out of the question. I also love your thoughts and I agree with you. It is our duty not to let anyone offends us.
I love that you sign the blocks for those attending your workshops. What a great personal touch, and something to treasure. I would have to frame that block as decor for the sewing space!
I just told my daughter this very thing recently. Life is too short to dwell on unkind things. Singing the Neil Diamond song with you!
Dear Bonnie,
I've heard these words all my life and it often helps me to remember them when I'm tempted to feel offended:
A courier told Emperor Constantine that a mob had broken the head off his statue with stones. The emperor lifted his hands to his head, saying: 'It is very surprising, but I don't feel hurt in the least'"
Yup, we can only feel tempted to acknowledge something unkind.
Your goodness, Bonnie, is it's own reward. Smile on. :•)

Thank you Bonnie for sharing and caring and giving "food for thought" each day. I agree 100% with Faye Kiser in the post above and she took the words out of my mouth. I had a FB account for several years and found that it was causing me to be very critical and judgmental with all the bragging and lying that dominates that social experiment, and I did not like the person I had turned into. I deleted my FB account and never looked back. I have a few blogs I follow, but only ones that I can learn from and free from gossip.
It looks like you all have so much fun in your retreats. Some day I will have to join you, when you are close to where I am!
Bonnie, hurrah for you, life is so much simpler and better and more joyful when we just let it be ok to be who we are and not play the blame game!!!!thanks for being such an inspiration
Bonnie, will you have the Essential Triangle tool when you come to California?? I want one for the workshop with Orange Grove quilters.
I think the world would be a better place without all the social media crap.
