Yesterday dawned into a blustery scene of snow blowing sideways.
Big flakes, just coming on down.
It didn’t last long, but it was enough to make me as giddy as a school girl, making plans to stay inside and sew all day while the weather did whatever its agenda entailed.
Soon, big flakes turned to small ones, then just to little ice crystals coming down, and then all together it stopped.
By afternoon what white frosting our world had was gone, and I was so glad I got this photo.
The first Snow Day Sew Day of this winter for me.
Top assembly by treadle!
The top was already sewn into rows, with the rows still joined by chaining threads (See my Webbing to Top article under the Tips & Techniques tab at the top of the blog) and all I needed to do was join the rows to each other. I chose to do so by treadle!
Singer 15-210
Indian Star Decals!
From Needlebar.org:
The 'Indian Star' occurs as a bed decal on Singer machines which were intended for sale on the Indian sub-continent. The eight-pointed star has the name 'Singer' on each point in a different Indian language.
The languages represented moving clockwise from 1 o'clock are:
Onya, Singhalese, Gujarati, Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam (or Tamil), Urd
My machine was manufactured on September 30th, 1941. It says made in the USA, and was found here in NC, no evidence of it having been sold on the Indian continent.
A sign of the 40s – black hand wheel instead of chrome. You’ll find this on featherweights too, that the chrome handwheels of the pre-WWII era change to black as chromium was used in war efforts.
It’s a center!
But it looks unfinished. It just needs something –
Piano Key Borders going on!
Oh, so much better!
Photo taken from the top of the stairs!
I fit one more top finish into 2016. Boy, didn’t that feel good?
Today we are off to Virginia to take a second look at the one property we really liked. We hare having a pizza bake to celebrate our New Year’s eve – tomorrow it will be here. Are you ready?
Quiltville Quote of the Day!
Vintage hexagon quilt shared by @photokevin74 .
Just as our quilts will live on long after we will, how we treat orhers lives on as our legacy by those who felt the ripples of our actions. Remember, it's all about the ripples - they go on and on!
Have a Happy Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone!

Well for sure I am going to do "garlic knots" for my brother for Christmas 2017! It will be a controlled quilt not scrappy. It fits his personality more. Cant wait to start it. But for today I will do Clue 6 first. This is my third year quilting and doing your mystery quilt and I have to say that your directions ROCK! I try to follow patterns from quilt magazine's and other books and I will honestly say hands down your directions are the best and easiest to understand. Happy New Year Bonnie!
Bonnie, your creativity never ceases to amaze me!! The border is PERFECT for that top! Happy New Year to you and Dave!
That piano key border is awesome! I really love this quilt! I am wondering how many quilts you actually made this year and how it compares to other years. Would love to know the answer. Thanks Bonnie.
love that quilt and the keyboard border just really makes it sing!! Do you have a pattern for this quilt or did you just make it up this month and not have it written down?
WOW!!!! Love the quilt! You totally amaze me! I love to watch you at work, thanks for sharing each of the steps as you designed along the way. You end up with this amazing quilt from your simple blocks. You are entertaining! ♥️
I love the Piano Key Border...I don't think I have seen it quite like this before. Spectacular!!

Wow! That's a confetti New Years Eve finish! Love that border and the whole quilt!
Wow, wow, wow! Will your Virginia property be a bed and breakfast for quilters??? LOL! I'm sure that there would be many of us readers who would come see you there.

What a really lovely quilt, Bonnie. Very bright and jolly, very scrappy, very 'YOU'! Happy New Year to you and all your family. Just seen in the New Year in Singapore (now 1.30am here) so we are already in 2017. Where did last year go????
Woo Hoo Bonnie I love how you did the sashing and the border. I love the border it really sets it off.
What a beauty! This is a candidate to be patterned for your next book. (There will be a next book, won't there?)
Does this newest quilt top have a name. I'd like the pattern.
I love doing garlic knots, and love the border on it. I haven't decided how to set mine yet as I still need to make more blocks. Good luck on your search, and hope the cabin you like is THE ONE. Happy New Year to you and your family and Sadie and your kitty!
Beautiful. Good luck on your visit to Virginia 😊
Dear Bonnie, I've been following you for years. It's no wonder you have such a large following. You are loved the world around. Not only for being a wonderful quilter/teacher. But because you share so much more. I feel like we are good friends and you have brought so much to my life.. even though you wouldn't know me if we were face to face..lol... I'm sure there are many more just like me (yep, we all look alike, haha)
I'm wishing you and your family a wonderful, healthy new year. Thank you for everything!!
Oh Bonnie! You did it again. My Bonnie Hunter bucket list is getting larger! I think 2017 is going to be all Bonnie - All The Time! I love your garlic knots and the border is perfection. This is gorgeous. Thank you for sharing your quilting prosess. 2017 is going to be a busy Bonnie year and I will love it all the time.
I am really missing the search function for the blog. Is that something you did away with or is it a blogspot thing?
Thanks for all you do.
I'm loving the quotes you use at the end of each post. Today's is especially good, but I like even more what you said about the ripples of our actions. I've been looking for a word for the year - maybe "ripples" is it!
search function for the blog
I am loving the completed garlic knots quilt. Will instructions for the whole quilt including sashing and piano borders be published? You are amazing Bonnie!!! Thanks and Happy New Year!
Hi Bonnie. I hope you will eventually publish this Garlic Knot & piano key quilt , as a pattern or in a book. It is stunning.
Congratulations on another winner!
Thank you Bonnie for an amazing year, from your tutorials, free patterns, beautiful designs, and most of all the Alaskan Cruise. My dream came true. You thought me almost everything i know about quilting, thank you so much, you give us a lot, may GOD give you ten times more. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Bonnie, Happy New Year for you and all your family. I hope that the coming year will be full of pleasant comments, peace and understanding of all you give and all you do. From this side of the border, I want to tell you how much you have enriched my life not only in quilting but in the privilege of living everyday.
I do have a request for you regarding the piano key border if I could be so bold as to ask. How do you make yours.. It looks so awesome with the quilt you just webbed and sewed. I notice those different fabrics in the keys and the dark ends but for the life of me I can't figure out how you construct it. Maybe it is just the holiday hangover from the go-go-go or perhaps I need more sleep LOL.
Once again, thank you for all you give, do and figure out.
The Garluc Knots quilt is scrappily awesome! I echo the encouraging and thankful comments above. Wishing you and yours God's blessings in the new year.
Hi Bonnie I have a Singer with the same decals as yours. Mine is a hand crank and made in May 1917. I knew bout being made for export to India. I bought it here in Australia but unfortunately do not know its travel history. I love using it, it sews beautifully.
Awesome border! When did you ever have time to make it?
Love the border! Do you have a tutorial for it?
I love the phrase "Snow Day Sew Day!" I wish we had more of those in Kennesaw, GA. I have to settle for the "Rainy Day Play Day" program. It works! ♡
New header--En Provence? Clever girl, I love both quilts. Snowing here (OR)so I think I'll make soup and sew. Happy New Year. See you in September (isn't that a song?).
Congratulations on another great top finished! I Love Garlic knots, sand the piano keys really sets it off!
Good luck on the cabin hunt and on a Great 2017!
