Hello, Everyone!
I’m very excited to be taking part in the blog tour [complete with give-away that you won’t want to miss!] for John Kubiniec’s brand new book with C&T publishing -
A New Spin on Drunkard’s Path!
I have known John for a number of years. We became friends on Facebook through the quilting communities and found we have quite a bit in common!
When Kansas City Star was acquired by C&T Publishing, John and I discovered that our book release dates were happening within the same time frame, and we were able to discuss all the ins out outs, tests, tribulations and excitement [sometimes terror!] of going from one publisher where you kind of knew the routine, and finding yourself in a new ballgame where you really were the new kid on the block and trying to fit in and do everything right and prove yourself with your new publishing house.
We’ve been each other’s back and bent one another’s ear many times over this process. I have been a cheerleader for John, and he has been a great listening ear for me as well!
If you have loved and been intrigued by the Drunkard’s Path pattern in the traditional realm, and are ready to kick it up to the next generation, you are going to LOVE John’s book!
My favorite from the book!
More info from John himself:
I was born in North Tonawanda, NY and grew up in a family of crafters. My formal training is that of a church musician and I have lived and worked in Rochester, NY; Richmond, VA; N. Andover, MA; New York City, and finally returning to Rochester, NY
I have always enjoyed handwork (embroidery and cross-stitch) and became interested in ceramics. Studying ceramics at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Mudflats Pottery Studio (Sommerville, MA) and Greenwich House Pottery (NYC). I also served as a studio assistant for ceramic artist Bruce Winn. Quilting was always lurking there as something I wanted to explore.
But wait, maybe THIS one is my favorite!
I finally began to indulge in that passion by taking classes at The City Quilter in New York City. After my first class, I was addicted. In 2010 I decided on a whim to enter the McCall’s Quilting Design Star Challenge and was happy to be one of original 174 finalists and made it to the final round of competition with 7 other finalists. I soon began designing patterns for various fabric companies and quilting magazines. In 2013 my pattern “Pinwheels” appeared in the book “Classic Modern Quilts” published by Kansas City Star .
I maintain a longarm quilting and quilting design studio – Big Rig Quilting. I teach and travel extensively sharing my techniques and love of quilting. I live in Rochester, NY with my partner, harpist Ray Pool. In my spare time I enjoy gardening and cooking.
Can you believe all of these are made from the same basic unit with some simple variations?
I was looking for a name for my longarm quilting business and was having difficulty coming up with something I liked. My partner said “Well, it’s like driving a big rig.” – I thought about it and he was right – stitching with a longarm is a bit like driving a big rig – it really is a BIG sewing machine. So the name was born! What began as a longarm quilting business has grown. Big Rig Quilting now encompasses longarm quilting, patterns, books, and teaching.
I originally began designing patterns for various fabric companies and magazines and continue to do that. Many of the magazine patterns will soon be available as PDF downloads in my store on my website. I also continue to publish my patterns and techniques in various magazines and in books with C&T Publications.
Units made simple with Marti Michell’s Drunkard’s Path Templates!
Maybe THIS one is my favorite of all!
Look at the beautiful quilting!
Oh, John, you’ve done it again!
But this one….wow!

Love a new book, especially this one!
I love drunkards path but have never made one. The book looks great.
I would love to try John's new designs! Thank you for the giveaway!
Love the new ideas. Templates would make the cutting so much faster. More time to try new layouts. 😀
as you can see I have had fun with this pattern in a variation....is fun!
What a great book. I made 2 drunkard path variations (twin size each) over 35 years ago. Well worn, they are still around. They were some within first ten quilts that I ever made.
Wonderful! Thanks so much!!
