A Colorado Good Morning!

20160808_085454
I made it!

With all of the global tangle that went down with Delta Airlines yesterday.

In fact, I feel very much like I skated through this with nothing more than a 4 hour delay which was minimal compared to those who still are dealing with cancelled flights, sleeping on airport floors, trying to get to their destinations on day 2 of the “Delta Debacle.”

When things are beyond my control, I stitch.  I listen to audio books.  I take a break, and talk to the person next to me.  Stitching in public always brings around loads of interest.

I am using a Bionic Bag that was made especially for me by a reader, because it is smaller than the usual bag I carry.

I’m having to adjust what I bring this trip because I am also carrying a machine, so everything that wasn’t machine had to fit in my shoulder strap computer bag, and I was minimizing weight and bulk for this short 4 day trip.

How did flying with Black Beauty in a cooler work?  If you missed yesterday’s photos click HERE.

Well, due to the stuff going on, I actually switched planes going stand-by to get me to Atlanta because there was a plane going before mine and I had that Denver connection to make.  The stand-by plane was a dreaded smaller regional jet, sitting 2 passengers on one side of the aisle, and 1 on the other.  Small overhead bins.

Never fear!  I was prepared!

Black Beauty, Bagged and Binned!

The soft sided cooler didn’t fit the small overhead bins, so I gate checked the cooler, bringing the tote bag and the machine on board with me.  It easily fit in the bin, and it would have fit under my seat if it had needed to.

If you are EVER flying with a machine, be prepared that you might not be able to fit the whole tote either under the seat or in the overhead, but you CAN put the machine in a fabric tote bag and it will go just fine.  NEVER EVER EVER gate check your machine. Or your laptop.

See what happened to me HERE.

When I landed in Atlanta, the only thing that held me up was waiting at the top of the jet bridge for the gate checked baggage to be unloaded.  That seemed to take forever, and by the time I got my bag in terminal D, my flight to Denver was boarding at the end of terminal A….run, Bonnie run!  And I did.

And I really have to say that there should be a law against TEXT WALKING!  I swear….those who are just held up at the airport with no flight to take, meander the halls, with their faces down into their phones not letting people who are in a hurry to actually CATCH a flight pass.  I actually DID say to one younger person who was definitely holding up traffic, to get his face OUT of his phone and pay attention to those who need to MOVE!  OF course, this was not received very well – but there are so many folks out there who are just unaware of what is going on around them.  You want to text?  Go hug a wall and get out of the way!

Oh, and that gate A-33 thing??  By the time I got there they had changed the gate to B-4 and I was off and running again.  Holy cow.  Back down to the plane train, dealing with crowds, I barely made it!  But I did.

And this time, the cooler fit just fine!

Yes, it has wheels.  Yes, it has a handle.  Yes, it has pockets.  It’s not the sturdiest thing, I won’t travel with a machine very often, but it is doing the job for me right now.

Rental car line!

OY!

Lots of folks to talk to as we wait in line for cars.  I suppose it was okay that it took this long.  It was now 5pm and we were deep into Denver Rush Hour.  I was soon on my way ---and to beat the rush hour further, I stopped at the first little strip mall I came across to get a manicure so I am ready for today.

Ironed and ready to go.

The crazy thing about these workshops is that they want you to change your outfit with every segment.  And I hate fancy wear! LOL!  I know it is going to be hot in the studio with all of the lights, but they want layers to hide microphone cords, etc.  We will suffer through!

I’m showered, I’m dressed, I’m hitting send and will be on my way downstairs to get some breakfast and head over to the Quiltmaker offices. Sans makeup – sans hairdo….I have all of that waiting for me when I get there!

So excited!

I can't wait to see what this next set of classes will cover. The first set taught me so much. Thank you for fitting this into your busy schedule. Between Quilt Cam and these classes, I feel like I know you personally, and that makes a big difference in my quilting and in my life. Go knock 'em dead. :-)

So glad you made it and everything with you. Love the selection of clothing, it will show up well. Enjoy the hair and make-up session, a little pampering is always good. Can't wait to see how it all comes together. Feeling a little sad for those that got laid-off at F+W but times, they are a'changing. Enjoy your time there and show them all your "Shine".

What a trooper! The traveling angels must have been with you to get through ALL of that AND have time for a manicure. Best of luck on the rest of your week.

So glad you were one of the lucky ones who made it to their destination. Delta is still in a mess today.

Glad you made your trip on time. As one who has spent time in airports with missed or cancelled flights, I know how rewarding it is to complete the journey even if it is later than originally planned. I worked in DC but lived in MO. I bought my Featherweight in Maryland and hand carried all the way back to MO. She arrived safely.

I have to give you kudos for not losing it with all the airport mess. I hate to fly commercial! And the wandering texters.....a strategically placed foot in their path will get their attention.. You didn't hear me say that.
I did have a question about traveling wth your machine....was wondering if there is ever a problem with oil leaking when you turn it on its side, since it has open oiling holes.
Have a great time in Golden....look forward to the new programs!

I hope your taping is going smoothly. You had enough stress just getting there.

I am just now working my way thru your first set of classes. How nice to know there will be another waiting for me. I agree with what you wrote yesterday about spacing out your travels and leaving time for being home avd being creative and recharging. I hope you find a way to do that.

More rain in Alaska - we're positively soggy now! But hubby is away on a canoe trip and aside from a dental cleaning i will be sewing with the Olympics on in the background.

Hope you have some fun with the filming.

YEA!!! I'd say "break a leg" but you sure don't need that to slow you down. Hope there is a place to cool down after being under all those lights. Great new outfits! Thanks for the tips on taking a machine on a plane.

My Husband went from Roanoke to Atlanta to Cincinnati to Minneapolis to Kansas city-he spent over 24 hours on this voyage. He is not a quilter but he had his tablet and therefore access to all sorts of stuff.
It's nice we quilters always have something at home at these times. I love your bag and your pretty hexies.

I have no idea why you go through all of that @#$%^&*() but we sure do benefit from your love of quilting. Thank You

Go Girl.... by now I hope several segments are finished.
