Hello from the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan where yesterday’s Charlotte’s Baskets workshop from my book String Fling was in full swing!
It was a wild and crazy day full of string piecing, half square triangles, and more, and we had a great time!
Chain those triangles, Pam!
Pam and her hubby have joined us from Southern California, and she is one of those gals that I just love seeing wherever she turns up.
This time I got to meet her hubby, and I can honestly say that the husbands are enjoying their trip to the Island and the Grand just as much as the ladies are.
If you have a chance to come to the Needle Arts Seminar in the future, don't miss it!
In fact, plans are underway to make sure I come back in May of 2019, so set your calendars and start saving!
Repeat Performers!
Some students are here for the second time around! They even captured memories from my first visit 2 years ago by making woolie pin cushions from the geranium pattern found in the parlor carpet. Remember this?
I love this carpet, AND the pin cushions!
There was lots of trimming of blocks!
Loads of pressing of triangles!
Look at them all working so hard under glorious chandeliers!
Looking great in green, Pat!
While my students were busily stitching away, I stopped to peek in the other class rooms to see what was going on:
Mary Elizabeth Kinch’s busy bees!
Bill Kerr’s class having a great time!
Some woolie stitching going on in Carmen’s class next door to mine!
It was a busy day of full activity! Meanwhile in the hotel, this was going on for afternoon tea:
Isn’t this just a great place?
I hope you’ll enjoy the rest of our photos in the slide show below!
Today we’ve got Grand Illusion, a 2 day workshop beginning. It’s going to be fun spending 2 whole days with these quilters, really getting to know them and making a lot of progress on our quilts!
Quiltville Quote of the Day!
Vintage hexagon quilt belonging to Diane in Kalamazoo shared during our workshops in March.
Thinking of my mom this morning as I wake up to another beautiful day at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. There will be a phone call when I get a break in between class to let her know how much I love her, and how much I attribute the woman I am to the woman that she is.
Happy Mother's Day, Mom!

sure hope you post something else about the quilts waiting to show... as it did not show up on my computer..... sounds like a lovely quilt retreat.... and I know what NORTHERN Michigan is like this time of year!
Happy Mother's day to all the moms out there. What an awesome place to spend your special day. Thanks you so much, Bonnie, for sharing the video "inserts" too. I've been sick in bed for the last few days and this is the first time I could get to my computer. It was a lovely way to re-enter the world of the living. Ha.
Shari
Happy Mother's Day to you all. I hope you have a wonderful day. I love being with the family.
