Friends that chain together, stay together!
And it’s even better if they come to class in matching shirts for the occasion! Ha!
Yesterday was my last day with the Hands of Friendship guild in Kirksville, Missouri – and all of our additional friends who traveled in from across the state and out of state to join us for this 3 day weekend Quilta-Palooza!
Every need was taken care of – even in the face of tornado warnings and hunkering downs and threat of wet boxes of books! When I arrived back at the workshop location the morning after the storm, everything was fine. Kind souls HAD seen the boxes on the floor and everything was up and dry.
All is well! All is better than well…it’s QUILTY GOOD!
Yesterday’s workshop was Texas Tumbleweed from MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders and we had a walloping good time.
Machines whirring away all day long!
Blocks soon coming together!
Even being joined in rows! Sew, Susan, Sew!!
What a simply great day to be together and sew!
I have to tell you about our wonderful lunches, too! We had a hubby and wife catering team come in and they prepared our meals while we sewed. Our workshops were held in the Novinger Volunteer Fire Department hall, and all morning long we could smell soups simmering on Friday. We had Taco, Creamy cheesy potato, or veggie beef as our choices. It came with sandwhiches, veggies and dip and all of the fixings AND dessert. We were so spoiled!
Yesterday was something I’d never had before –a midwest specialty. Grilled pork burgers….slathered in BBQ sauce. SO YUMMY! All of the fixings came with that too, including homemade pickles so delicious. Take this lunch and top it with an ice cream sundae for dessert and what do you have? ONE FULL BONNIE!
As we said – if you go hungry at a guild function, it is your own fault!

My sincere and utmost thanks to the Hands of Friendship Quilt Guild of Kirksville! I know how much work goes on behind the scenes to pull an event like this together, and you worked tirelessly to make it all flow wonderfully smoothly – even in the face of tornado warnings! This was a visit I won’t soon forget, and I hope to see you all in the future!
Heading out toward Marshall Missouri!
I left the workshop about 4pm and drove 2 1/2 hours through beautiful scenic countryside to where I was meeting with the Stitch by Stitch guild group from Marshall, the next stop on my whirlwind tour around Missouri.
Dinner in the Tavern!
From the Missouri State Parks website:
The tavern is the oldest continuously serving restaurant west of the Mississippi River with 180 years of continuous service to the public.
It is the centerpiece of Arrow Rock State Historic Site and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Voted the "Best Fried Chicken in the State" by Rural Missouri readers in 2011.The food was delicious, and I am looking forward to spending today and tomorrow with the Stitch by Stitch guild!
I’ve got a bit of a reprieve this morning – the lecture is at 1:30, so I’m being picked up at 10:30 to go set up, and then out for a bite of lunch, and back for the lecture which will be followed by a half day Bricks in the Barnyard workshop with 50 quilters in attendance!
Good Morning Missouri!

Not only do I enjoy hearing about all the quilting activities, but I especially like seeing photos of the local sites
and environs....Missouri is a lovely state and the site from your window was a typical midwestern view :)
Judy in PA. What lovely quilt blocks! As I watched the slide show, I would think "ooo I love that color combination", then I would see the next one and think the same thing. I really have to make that quilt. I will have a hard time deciding what color I like best though after seeing all those beautiful examples.
Thanks for a wonderful day working on Texas Tumbleweed! Can't wait to see how my Christmas prints from the 1990's work out in this pattern! Enjoy Marshall & safe travels! (one of the Apron ladies-Sue)
I'll wave north (Marshall) and south (Springfield) as I drive thru that area of Missouri on Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, tornado's are a part of life in that area. Glad you just had warnings, not an actual tornado.
Yea for dry books :-) It is good to hear that you are so well taken care of by your guild members. The workshops look like so much fun for them. Have a wonderful tornado free day!
Makes me sing "the corn is as high as an elephants eye"' !
My mom, Marlene, and I truly enjoyed meeting you in person and taking your class yesterday! We can't wait to do it again someday!
Bonnie--Thank you so much for your quilting inspiration! The trunk show and workshops that you did truly helped me improved my quilting skills and stash organization. It was a weekend that I will never forget. Now on to the UFOs which are increasing in number after the weekend. Cathy Poyner
Hi Bonnie. I thought Texas tumbleweeds pattern to be in more adventures with leaders and enders..love reading your blogs. Mom.quilter@gmail.com
Love the matching chain piecing outfits!
Bonnie, love your blog. I went looking for Texas Tumbleweeds in my copies after you mentioned the two books. However, Texas Tumbleweeds is in More Adventures with Leaders and Enders, not String Fling.
Your pics do make me want to make it. Glad to hear the books are okay.
