Quilt Odyssey Retreat, The Finale!

20150905_102231(0)
It was a day for strip piecing!

It was a day for 4 patches, spinning seams, and sewing blocks.

It was a day for a bit more precision, as 4 patches need to fit the center square – a great way to double check your measurements!

It was a day for cutting sashings the size they needed to be to frame each block, and also checking the measurements of the block center against the sashings pieces.

I love it when things come out the right size.  If they don’t, the first thing I check is my seam and fix it.  If it isn’t the seam, I check my cutting.  A little bit of care in this area means very little squaring down.  It makes me a happy quilter!

It’s been so nice to have this project for two whole days, where I am usually cramming it in to a 6 hour workshop.

And my quilters were having a great time on retreat too!

And Missy – Cuttin’ Up!

I have to thank Missy Molino our fearless director –the power behind Hershey’s Quilt Odyssey for putting this retreat together and showing us such a great time.

Our accommodations were great, the facility was perfect for retreating, and the food at the lodge was AMAZING.  I overheard a conversation between two of our quilters that went like “If you come to retreat here and find you are still hungry, it is your own fault!”.

I don’t even need to mention the Allenberry’s infamous sticky buns and endless dessert bar –the food here is just really really good!

When we weren’t being fed, we were feeding pieces through our machines!

You will find the pattern for Fair & Square in my book Scraps & Shirttails II. Signed copies are available in the Quiltville Store.

Fair & Square, Quilt Odyssey Retreat 2015

Last night was extra special – we went to the Play House here at the resort and saw a fabulous performance of The Fantasticks!  A quilt retreat AND Musical Theater?  What a way to end our time here!

See you next time, ladies!!

This morning I’m up and at it early.  I’m needing to hit the road by 6am – and I am driving all the way to the cabin which should take me between 7 and 8 hours.

I’ll catch you from there!

I'm so glad you taught me to spin seams. I've been sharing it all week long at the Fair! It's fun to see the eyes of the people when they see the "magic" of it. I tell the kids I need their help choosing what fabrics go together and then I make them a 4-patch. My scrap users 2 1/2" tote will need to be re-filled after this. Have a wonderful Labor Day at the Cabin! Drive Safe.

Looks like such fun! I keep seeing cute little crocheted doilies on top of Featherweight spool pins. Is there a pattern somewhere? Thanks in advance!

I love the green and blue stripped pieces and the purple and plaid centers. I used 3 or 4 different reds and various dark sashing to keep it truly scrappy. Johanne , 2hagars at gmail.com
