Things have been so run run run that I haven’t had time to post about the wonderful array of show and share quilts that were brought along to both retreats in Iowa last week!
There was so much variety, and such skill – and perseverance!
Our common love of fabric, thread ((yes and batting and binding too!)) goes so deep and connects us all.
I just LOVE it when you bring your quilts to share with me.
And the benefit of bringing show & share to retreat? You can sleep under it while you are away from home as well!
I love this Scrappy Mountain Majesties, all in recycled shirts in a perfect napping size for the couch. Doesn’t it make you just want to curl up in it and read a good book, or take a long snooze?
I am GOING to make another plaid one – I am!
**Side Note** My friend Mona has not worked with triangles yet. But she is on her way home from Ohio – and I have enough shirts for the both of us so we are going to dig back into this one. Want to join us? I’ll post details later. And just so you know, we’ve hooked her good – she bought ANOTHER featherweight yesterday on her way back from Ohio, and there is a treadle machine in the back of the car too! LOL!
Another Scrappy Mountain Majesties! Yes –I think we need to do this!
You will find the free pattern for Scrappy Mountain Majesties under the Free Patterns tab at the top of the blog.
Roll Roll Cotton Boll from String Fling!
Orca Bay from String Fling! Just Gorgeous!
A wonderful Easy Street from MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders in terrific colors!
Narragansett Blues from MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders as well!
And this only takes us part way through the show & share of the first day of retreat!
I’ve uploaded the rest into a slide show because there are so many.

Show and Share, Iowa Retreat 2015 |
Yesterday Morning!
I know it is hard to believe, but we were so down and busy that I took very few photos!
Getting the set all set!
Going over flow charts!
Lights, Camera Action!
And yes, there is an outfit change for every episode!
Three down, three more to go today. Make up and hair at 7am ---let’s get this thing done!
As fun as the past more-than-a-week has been, this girl is ready to go home and have a jammie day!
Have a super Wednesday, everyone!

Yep, Mona is hooked good. Lol. You look great! I can't wait to see the segments. YES, I'll join in on a scrappy mountain majesty. It's on my list of to dos. Maybe for an upcoming quilt cam? I just bet you are looking forward to being back home. What a whirlwind schedule! But please know that we appreciate you and what you share with us.
So I'd better get busy deboning shirts for fabric to use for SMM. And yes, you deserve a Jammie day!!!
Since I am such a generous person, I'll do your jammie day for you! :)
I look forward to seeing the results of your taping--enjoy the process.
I was thinking just the other day that we haven't heard about Mona in a while. 3 VSM's, sure sign of a fellow addict :) Loving all the beautiful quilts and I like the sound of a recycled shirt challenge (hint, hint) in the future. Now I just need to hit up the stores just in case there is one. Happy taping. (Stay cool, it is supposed to be a scorcher today.)
Hang in there, jammie day in your future!!
I'm currently cutting 9" squares from my shirts for backings to 3 quilts. off the top of my head I can't remember how many I need, but perhaps I'll just keep cutting until I have enough for a Scrappy Mountains Majesties.
To Pam in KC: When I noticed you wrote 9" squares, something "kachinged" in my mind, checked it out and I see that the original pattern in Free Patterns calls for an 8 1/2" square. Due to the way the pattern works, it shouldn't be a problem, just that the final measurements will come out different. This one is on my bucket list also...My family is husband + 4 boys. I have lots of shirting fabric scraps because I sewed nearly all the shirts for the boys' growing up days. I'm still trying to figure out how I could use the smaller scraps for this pattern...??? May need to think of a different pattern, like Lozenges?
I have a box of squares I have been saving up for a Scrappy Mountain Majesties quilt. You look gorgeous for your tapings. Jammie days are the best. I try for once a week.
In my humble opinion, you should have several other tops in that marvelous melon color. It looks just GREAT on you. Just sayin'.
TO kdk83 Take a look at Cheddar Bow Ties. Uses lots of small pieces. Perfect for L/Es too.
I second the melon color-looks good on you! SMM looks and sounds fun, but no shirts and our Goodwill charges $3.49 each. Will have to look for some BIG shirts. I saw one the other day, went back few days later to get it (lawn cotton--so soft!)and it was gone. Just like fabric, you need to buy it when you see it. LOL So where are the videos going to be when they are done? Quiltmaker website? I am certain you are ready to be HOME and have a jammy day! My husband does not understand the concept. LOL Thinks you should get up and get dressed as soon as you get up! You can get a lot done whatever you wear! As everyone says "Thanks for all you do!" Repetition but heartfelt by all who say it!
I had to laugh about Mona getting another featherweight and having a treadle in the back. Over this past weekend two machines joined my collection. My poor hubby was so confused. He went with me to pick one up on Friday morning. Friday night, after we were in for the night, I casually mentioned to him that I would be getting a machine tomorrow (Saturday). There's silence, then he says, "You mean you just got a machine, right?" uhmmm, noooooo..... It was all good. The Friday machine replaced one that we had to throw out when the basement flooded. The Saturday machine is a 401! My first 401! woohoo! Since getting the 401 on Saturday I have been oiling and cleaning her up. Some of her levers and knobs were frozen in place and it took several days, lots of oiling, patience and love to get them in working order again. But they are all working now and I'm going to be taking her for a test drive very soon. And, as much as I'm wanting to get a 301, I am almost hoping one doesn't show up for a couple months because it might send dear hubby over the edge. haha.
I'm happy to see that Mona has caught the Vintage machine bug too! 2 featherweights and a Treadle coming to Buck mountain. I'm still on the lookout for a Treadle. I got a 503 last week-end at a yard sale. The Scrappy Mountain Majesties is one I haven't made. I'm game.
You look great on the QM set!
I have made two Scrappy Mountains Majesties...I got carried away making plaid blocks from Goodwill shirts. I love them. That and Strip Twist are my two favorite Bonnie patterns. I have made two of them too. Thanks for all the great Show and Shares and your travel pictures. You do look great in peach! Judy
Bless you Bonnie for all the quilty fun you inspire...
You are beautiful. Even in person. But I have to say the coral top really showed yourself off, you appeared 15 years younger. I think, imho, you ought to wear bright colors like that. Snazzy

You are a lovely young woman inside and out . I have to say I remember you saying that sweater set was so hot when you filmed in it before.....but you looked so good on camera
The coral I agree with the others who said you look so good in that color.
I don't know about how the camera sees you in different color clothes but I can say the tops I've seen you wear on quilt can have all been attractive. I prefer solid color cotton tee type tops but I stain them often as I seem to miss my mouth or drip something every meal
Best wishes to you and safe travels home as soon as you can go
Bonnie: bright colors are your thing! Try turquoise & definitely mor things with melon in them, also a true green, royal blue, and a deep lavender. Now that you are a TV celebrity you must dress for success! Go shopping😃 I can't wait to see the shows.
I'd say WARM COLORS are your thing! Yes, dress for success! It does make a difference unfortunately! ;-)
Had to laugh about Mona and the sewing machines!
I think it would be fun to use Kaffe Collection prints in the SMM quilt.
What quilt is behind you in the filming photos you shared???? I LOVE quilts with small pieces like that one!!

Welcome Mona to SMA.... Sewing Machines Anonymous... The addiction to buying and rescuing vintage machines gets stronger every time you find another machine you just have to save! I knew that once she experienced the thrill, she'd be hooked forever ♡ Can a girl ever have enough featherweights???

Also love the Melon color on you Bonnie! You are beautiful inside and out!

Mercy, I would never survive the learning curve for a taping, but you look marvelous! I can barely figure out how to view the slideshow on the new Picasa page, LOL! Turns out you need to click onto the blue title of the page to kick-start it. I just kept trying things until it worked, LOL!
Bonnie, what is the pattern of the quilt in the background while you were taping? It is breathtaking. Teresa N. at tlnelson755@centurytel.net
