Look what arrived in my mail box yesterday!
Soon to hit a news stand near you, it’s the September/October 2015 issue of Quiltmaker Magazine!
Here we are in the heat of the summer and the magazine cover is promising cooler temperatures WITH 14 quilts for cooler days- right around the color.

Turning the pages of the issue, and seeing this page for the first time got me so excited! All plans are in place, I’ve even got myself a rental car – and was told to get a manicure upon arrival. Oh yes, I will obey! This is happening so soon. I’ll be dropping my quilts and supplies off at Fed Ex on Sunday so they will be headed to Golden, Colorado while I go attend to things in Iowa before arriving in Golden myself!
Of course, I always turn the pages to see which issue they’ve decided will work best with what I’ve sent in for my Addicted to Scraps Column:

Love those flannels! I love autumn - my favorite time of year. We don't have the beautiful fall color here, so I always want to travel to see it, but don't get to very often. So, I always await all the pumpkin goodies that start showing up in the grocery stores around September. I hoard enough to last for several months. And fall fabric........

Fall should be here in about 4 weeks...??? I just finished making a 36 block log cabin quilt that I started 3 years ago...so I am thinking about flannel for the backing. Goal is to be able to snuggle under it this fall!

I love the looks of the red, white and blue quilt in this issue! I am heading up a "Sew for Veterans" project in our Guild. We are making quilts for Veterans in Hospice Care, and the quilts are used as part of a special "Pinning" ceremony in which the veteran is thanked and honored for their service. You are just so generous, Bonnie, with your gifts and your time. For some reason, I let my quilting magazine subscription lapse a few years. Reading about you receiving the Sept/Oct issue brings back the excitement of reading a new issue. At this point, when I get a quilting catalogue I get excited!
Fall is when I start looking for Christmas fabric and patterns for family gifts. It also brings anticipation of Thanksgiving - my absolutely most favorite holiday. I've such a large family that we rent a VFW Post the Saturday before Thanksgiving so we all can celebrate with siblings, children and grandchildren and then be able to celebrate on Thanksgiving individually. Some years, there are 108 McDermotts at Thanksgiving Saturday and they are all immediate family. Ain't family grand!

I look forward to fall because it's my birthday month (October) and I think of apples in pies, desserts, salads. We live in apple country so they are wonderful to eat fresh. Fall to me is cool crisp nights and warm days and the wonderful sights and smells of the leaves turning color . I love to be outdoors in the Fall!
