California Foothills Beauty --

20150616_094131
I had an opportunity yesterday to spend time with a couple of fun ladies – Julie and Lexy picked me up at my hotel, and were my guides for the day!

We took a scenic drive so I could get a feel for the area –the foothills of the Sierras!

This area was founded by the gold mining industry in the 1800s –settlers stayed long after and made this area into what it is today.

What I didn’t know is that  California’s highest bridge crosses the American River near by, and it is a beautiful drive!

Land mark sign!

We took many camping trips when I was little and I have fond memories of summers spent in pop-up tent trailers being pulled behind my dad’s volvo ---cool rivers and tire swings, the stuff of childhood family vacations.

Certain things will never leave me –the smell of campfire in our hair and clothing, and also the ever-present aroma of “wet ones” wipes as mom cleaned the sticky off our fingers from yet another round of s’mores at that camp fire!

This area reminds me so much of those childhood trips.  California is always in my heart as the land where I grew up.

River below to the left in the photo!

The bridge is HIGH..but also was a bit difficult getting photos through the bars on the tall safety fence!

The river is so low...so sad to see! I hope this drought ends soon.

Can you smell the pines??

It was a glorious day!

My photos were taken from the TOP of the bridge above….and now we are below!

Don’t worry, I won’t jump!!

Water levels are low…barely a trickle running here.

I’m so happy I got to  enjoy a bit of foothill scenery before we went back to the flat lands of the Sacramento Valley!

We had plans to wander around High Hand in Loomis, and some antique mall wandering in Roseville!

Photos of that to come!

Crossing that bridge was the road I took for all of my teen years as I went to church camp just outside of Foresthill. Your pictures bring back many fond memories and a feeling of some homesickness. Thank you for the pictures.

I so enjoyed the beautiful pictures here today! Oh My, that bridge IS tall! Although I'm a native Oregonian and have been to CA numerous times, I had not seen this bridge, or if I did, I was probably too small a child to remember it. And it is so sad to see the river merely a trickle. We here in the Willamette Valley are not in drought stage yet, although many Oregon counties are.

Wow nice views out there. How I wish to cross with those roads someday.

I laughed when I read the no jumping sign and then realized they are talking about those bungee jumpers probably. LOL

So glad you came to Sacramento to talk at the River City Quilt Guild. Hope you come back again soon. Love your thoughts of leaders and Enders. I have been doing that lately just because I need a bunch of nine patches for my son's wedding signature quilt. I had never heard of it as an actual process. I just get bored sewing the same thing over and over, so I have several sitting near my machine and work on it as I work on other projects. Since seeing you on Tuesday, I've been going through my binding left over scraps organizing them. So excited to try one of your quilts in the book I bought. Oh check out River City Quilt Guild's Facebook page. You were highlighted there this morning.
