We took the train from Manarola to Vernazza, another adorable little italian village along the Cinque Terre.
We had an amazing time wandering the shops, hearing the sounds and seeing the sights of this little village --so quaint, so very Italian!
From the ever present Wiki:
Vernazza is one of the five towns that make up the Cinque Terre region. Vernazza is the fourth town heading north, has no car traffic, and remains one of the truest "fishing villages" on the Italian Riviera.
Vernazza's name is derived from the Latin adjective verna meaning "native" and the aptly named indigenous wine, vernaccia ("local" or "ours"), helped give birth to the village's moniker.
You can't miss the church tower past the piazza, it dates back to 1200!
We lunched at Ristorante Belforte, a medieval fort at least 1000 years old turned favorite dining spot about 50 years ago.
Pay attention the photo bombing seagull --and the guy behind Freida..LOL! They show up in our slide show!
What charm! We were pinching ourselves!
How could you not just fall in love with this?
Our waiter showed us how to debone fresh fried anchovies --not like the anchovies we are used to ((Or not used to!)) at all -- these were very mild and had a flavor much like trout. Deliciouso!
I had the fresh "catch of the day!" Yummy!
Looking back at Vernazza -- Belissima!

Vernazza, Cinque Terre, Italy 2015 |
We are on our way home. We catch the bus in about 30 minutes to head to the airport in Florence. We'll catch a flight to Rome, have a two hour layover and will be on our way to New York from there. After that, it's a flight to Atlanta and then a flight to Greensboro for me..I'll be in my own bed TONIGHT....but what a long day it is going to be.
Thank you, Italy! You welcomed us with open arms and we became part of your whole. It won't be my last trip here -- I can't wait to come again!
