Portland Head Light is absolutely breathtaking in any kind of weather.
But if you place this iconic lighthouse against a blue blue sea and an even bluer sky it is breath-catching!
I was here several years ago on a past visit to Maine, and it never ceases to inspire.
In 1787, while Maine was still part of the state of Massachusetts, George Washington engaged two masons from the town of Portland, Jonathan Bryant and John Nichols, and instructed them to take charge of the construction of a lighthouse on Portland Head.
There has been a lighthouse on this spot for 228 years!
The light house has not changed much over the years –check out this photo from 1917:

My photo, taken yesterday!
Rededication in celebrating the 350th birthday of Portland!
I love this place!
I took a LOT of photos. from every angle. This post is going to be too long to post them all so I am sticking them in a slide show for your viewing pleasure. Can you hear the waves? Use the pause button on the screen to give you time to read the text!
Click the image below if you are unable to view the slide show on your mobile device. You’ll be taken to the photo album for viewing.
And yes, there was a lobster!!
My travel home went from Portland, Maine through LaGuardia, NY and on to Greensboro, NC, arriving home about 10pm last night. DEAD BEAT! But we had done so much during this day!
Of course, hexies kept me busy on my flights home…and I got a kick out of this floor in the food court, terminal C at LaGuardia:
Just for me!
Sadie is happy to see mama, and hasn’t left my side, even when laying out my progress for a photo….there she is!
Rosette border making progress!

I figured this was an April Fool's joke! Funny!
So glad to see you went to DeMillo's. That has to be one of my all time favorite restaurants.
It's the day for a New Block in the Block of the Month. Heading over to TQS. Love your progress on the Hexies, too. Welcome Home
Funny, wonder if I could get the Map App for my car. Happy April Fools Day!
Looks like the people at Apple are having a good time on April Fool's Day!
That "Bonnie Blue" Ocean is breathtaking!
So glad you had some good weather and lobster before flying home.
If it's true, it would certainly be a unique watch!
hm
Sounds like a cool watch. Too bad it is an April Fool's joke.
What a neat idea...a quilter's watch! I can only imagine how much it will cost...
