This was my day today!
Well, only part of it.
Okay, really --- LESS than part of it.
Because, let’s be honest – no matter WHAT you have heard about Quilters and Rembrandt or Piccaso – we DO mend.
As long as we don’t have to change the thread in the machine to do it! HA!
It only took a minute to sew up this pocket, and you would have thought that I invented the cure to something really ---well…you get it.
Sometimes it takes something so little to make someone so happy, and then you wonder why you waited so long to do it in the first place.
For one thing – it took a lot less time to do this than to stitch on a binding, a hanging sleeve, or even a label. NONE of which got done today.
But I did fix a pocket!
I also sewed a backing!
I set up with a machine that hasn’t come out to play in a while, one with a beautiful stitch and a motor that purrs. Since I was piecing a backing for a Christmas quilt out of old DEEP Christmas stash – I thought green was a good choice!
And who can resist smiling at a machine named Electro Hygiene??! Fun!
I am working on a quilt in the APQ Quilt Along!
Scraptacular by Edyta Sitar: This is one of the choices for the Go Four It Quilt Along!
You can get your own copy of the April issue of AP&Q Magazine and sew along with us! We are all posting our progress on Instagram with the hashtag #apqquiltalong. You can follow me @quiltville_bonnie.
I won’t be giving directions or sizes or number of units in my posts. You can get that in the magazine. Remember yesterday’s copyright post? I can show units and progress, I have permission to share photos, but go get your copy of the magazine for the patterns!
Because I already had a bunch of square cut and have been making 4 patches as leaders & enders, my squares vary slightly in size from Edyta's. I'm using my own measurements.
Click HERE For more info from Moda Lissa.
I’ve cut a bunch of triangles to put my four patches on point!
I oversize them slightly so I can trim down and square up.
This is my evening project!

Bonnie how are your quilts hung on your walls. What did you use to hang them?
I am still at work, but tuning in for you to keep me company while I finish one last item on my To Do List!
I am half way through the blocks for Grand Illusion and loving it!! Also working on some 4 patches for the APQ Quilt Along.
Working on memorial quilt with men's dress shirts for a dear friend who lost her husband. Thank you for quilt cam tonight. Great way to get through a cold night in Ohio.
Thanks again Cheryl from Ohio
I'm working on my Go Four It blocks too! 1.5" squares are my favorite, especially four patch or nine patch! :)
Thanks for being so nice to explain to the younger folks about copyrights and permissions. I say younger because I'm 65 and we were taught that that is stealing. you give so much to us and I am grateful!
I do so want to be able to let go of control and do a scrap quilt. I'm hoping you will be a good influence. The closest I came was adding one of your designs to the door prize jacket at Quilt Odyssey.
Love quilt cam Am loving all the pictures of wild and goosey. Pauline Australia

Hey Bonnie! It's been a long time since I was able to join you for Quilt Cam! Good to see your smiling face! Working on the GIMQ tonight as I watch and listen.
Hi Bonnie, glad you enjoyed your quilt retreat at cabin with your friends, wish I could do the same. I am finishing a patriotic folk art table runner with wool applique for my Aunt for her birthday, hope she will like it. Enjoy everything you do, so sorry about what happened with videos, people need to be more respectful.

Hello from warm and windy Colorado. Loving quilt cam tonight as I just finished hand quilting weeks worth of Baptist fans and now I have an excuse to get working on my #2 GIMQ pieces. Love the "Electro Hygene" machine and I'll have to add that to my bucket list of VSM's just because of that color.

Bonnie, Know you're always supposed to make your backing a few inches larger than the front of your quilt to allow for shrinkage when quilting. How do you manage that when using a pieced backing? I just imagine my outside pieces will look odd after trimming them down after quilting.
Love Quilt Cam and your daily blogging....thanks for all you share with us.

Your missing triangles got picked up and tossed into your tub of small squares!

Was working on borders for your "Bargello in Plaid" but got stuck after auditioning a few of the plaids that I have enough of for the 5" border. I guess the dark one??? Waiting for my daughter to get home to get another opinion....
Thanks for sharing the Go Four It blocks-I love 4 patches. And I've started watching and am enjoying Foyle's War also. You are such a great source of all sorts of info!
Hi Bonnie. Love the setting you're using for the four patch. Same as what I will do. Also a lover of large quilts. Tonight I am working on the new mystery that's in the current issue of Quiltmaker. Finished GI so had to have another one to work on.
Good Evening Bonnie from chilly Ontario Canada. I am glad to be joining you, my wonderful husband, Kevin, even gave me a reminder that you were about to start, lol. Think I will keep him, lol. Good afternoon from Australia. I am hand stitching while on my lunch break. I am working on my pin cushion blocks for a row by row mystery. Good to see you again
Is that T-shirt a large Kids size instead of an adult? Maybe they half boo-booed.
I also have had a problem with a shirt from Teespring - I thought a medium would be fine for my small size but it is WAY TOO SMALL and tight. Live and learn.
yippee first time catching you live ...brill u are amazing .

Thank you for quilt cam I could listed to you for hours. How do you have so many scraps? Do you buy yardage for certain quilts and use the scraps that way? I just ordered leaders and enders and can't wait to get it!
Greetings from Woodstock, Ont.
This is the first time watching your quilt Cam. I'm enjoying it. I read your blogs every day, they are entertaining as well as helpful. I liked looking at your pictures when you were on your trips.
Hi Bonnie,
I have a small group of quilty friends who are at all different skill levels in their quilting. I would like to get them all together for a weekend retreat but need some suggestions about what we could work on and not have some people be lost and others be bored. Any ideas would be welcome! Thanks.

Good to see you on Quilt Cam again. I am piecing a batting and looking through my stash for the backing. The front of my doll quilt is the bonus hsts from Grand illusion turned into a pink, black and white pinwheel doll quilt I just could not let those bonus hsts go in the garbage. I have a srap addiction thanks to you, Bonnie.
i am watching you for the first time Bonnie and quite enjoying it.. Thank you for being here !
Bonnie -- great to be with you tonight. I thought I would share that I had a friend pass away this week and I was able to take possession of 13 shirts to make into quilts for the children left behind. Two of the girls are 16-17 years of age and are excited to help me make them. Even though this will be a time for remembrance, it will also be a time for learning. Thanks for giving me the ability to even attempt such a thing. Deb in Dallas.
I'm working on my red and white version of 'Cathedral Stars' that I started when you were here teaching in AZ. I haven't gotten very far yet, because it's been a busy fews weeks. We had a big 50th birthday bash for hubby on the 25th, and making that happen dipped into my quilting time, but I back at it. It was so nice to finally meet you face to face.

I'm putting blocks on my Bed to make sure no two same fabrics are touching. It's a design I did on EQ7 that I'm doing for a Kid's class at my Local Quilt store during Spring Break. I need to get my sample done.
When you switch machines do they all fit in that same cabinet or do you have to move furniture when you want to change machines? LOVE when you have QuiltCam! Linda in Traverse City
Yes, you can return the shirts to tee spring. I had the same problem last year. I wanted to order one last week and customer service told me that just the t-shirts run small, all the other stuff, hoodies etc. are true to size.
The schedule finally worked out to catch part of Quilt Cam tonight. I tuned in just in time for the copyright discussion. You summed up the issue very well and with such a great attitude about the whole deal. Kudos to you and thank you for everything you do!
thanks for the shout-out but you pronounced my last name wrong, its like zig not zee. happens all the time.
Hi, Bonnie!
Thanks for Quiltcam tonight. I am working on some Wild & Goosey Blocks. It's really the first time that I am working completely from scraps - some mine, some collected from a variety of places. It is pushing me a little out of my comfort zone, which is great!
Thanks again!

Working on several ufo's right now, but one thing i am super proud of is the fact that i finally conquerd binding a quilt, very happy now as that has always been a challenge for me. Now many quilts will be finished finally.
Jo from Australia hand piecing while I watch. I have only been blogging less than 2 years. I have just organised the first year of blog posts to be printed into a coffee table book. Can't wait to see what it's like in print...

This is my first time with Quilt Cam, I will definitely be back! I have two questions for you... Do you only sew with scraps and where do you get all your scraps.
@BunBear - Bonnie's Pineapple Blossom quilt is also a good pattern for varying levels of experience. I taught this class at my quilt guild last year (with Bonnie's blessing) and everyone really liked it. Good luck!

Bonnie, your darling Electro-Hygiene operates so quietly, it brought to my mind a stop at a quilt shop for a Super Bowl Sunday Sale a few years back. The shop had a big roulette wheel marked with different percentages of discounts. When you reached the check-out, a spin told what discount you would receive on your purchase. Needless to say, the wheel was turning almost constantly, and it was quite loud. My friend, Marguerite listened for a moment and reported to the rest of us, "Oh, gee . . . that sounds just like my first sewing machine!"
I wanted to comment that I hope you were wrong - you are going to Tuscany at the beginning of May, and coming to Alaska the middle of May! I am signed up for both and getting very excited. Saw a Rick Steves travel program on Tuscany (on TV) last night. Looks wonderful!
I hear you on the mending! The thread stays...unless it is black and will really show up. My mother, bless her, shall never be told of my mending method!
I found your pocket mending interesting and wondered how many quilters, like myself got our start mending and sewing clothes for our families? That was sure my start and I can't forget my roots! I watched two grandmother, my mother, several aunties as well as friends and neighbors sit and sew on treadles. So I was "vaccinated" early that this is what we do! But all quilting was done by hand!
I just found you!! What FUN! I have LOTS Of quilt cams to watch. I also want to figure out how to join you LIVE. Anyway, thanks! I've gotta head back and watch you sew your favorite 4 patches (and the rest of the show).
~Patty
Hey, Bonnie I'm watching this the next day. Actually parts of it for the second time. The part about the tee cracks me up. I picked up a pretty pink tee with a vsm totem on it. (Really, it looks like a totem from a PNW or Alaskan totem pole. But it's of a VSM!) When I bought it at an outlet store for a famous old brand from Portland, the woman asked if it was for me (I'm a XL or 2X sized lady.) When I bought it it fit. Snug, but it fit. I washed it. Oops. Well, it's been my plan to ship it to you. Hopefully it will work for you. I think it's at least an XL, maybe a 2X. I hope it works for you and that you love it as much as I did!
