This is the sitting area outside the elevator that leads up to the guest floors at the Grand Hotel.
Aren’t these colors just FABULOUS?!
Hopefully you can see why I needed to use the colors that I did for our Grand Illusion Mystery.
From the outside of the hotel, things look very stately and formal ---wide white porches with green floors, red carpets, pink geraniums, yellow awnings, and of course that lovely aqua ceiling that you see in all of the photos that have been posted so far.
But INSIDE?!
Vibrant!
Radiant!
Knock your socks off green and pink and black and white!
It was the pink of the sofa and the black and white of the floor in this area that inspired the colors for our units in Part 2.
While there are many ways to do units – I hope you found the one way that worked best for you. Whether you printed templates, used the Easy Angle ruler, or did the sew & flip method using squares and rectangles, your units should measure 4.5” square when sewn together. The unit will measure 4” square when sewn into the quilt.
I’ve been asked by a few who are not so “tech savvy” ((No shame there, we learn by doing, so let’s do!)) on HOW to link a photo to the linky using PINTEREST as an option for those who don’t have blogs. SO that’s what this post is about. It will also be linked after today to the Grand Illusion Mystery tab so you can find the directions and the link later, and also to the Blog Helps tab for any link ups we do in the future if you need a refresher.
First off. Of course. If you are going to link via Pinterest, you need a Pinterest account. Go to Pinterest.com to get one.
Create a board called Grand Illusion Mystery.
Creating a Board!
When you click Create a Board you will see a form come up like this.
Give your board a name. I called this one Grand Illusion Mystery.
Add a Description.
Choose a Category – I chose DIY & Crafts.
I don’t do a map thing.
And I don’t let anyone else pin to my boards ---so I leave that empty.
Click Create Board.
Click the + to add a Pin!
Click the ARROW to upload a photo from your computer.
Click CHOOSE Image and Navigate to where you saved your photo on your computer.
Double clicking my photo puts the name of the photo in the box next to choose image.
Choose the board you want the photo to appear in.
PLEASE write a description about your pin so we have something to read when we view it!
((You can also post it to twitter if you want!))
Click PIN IT!You now have a pin on your board. But you have one more thing to do to get the address for the Linky.
Click the pin image so you are viewing just that pin on the page, not looking at your entire board.
In the address bar at the top of the page is the URL of the individual pin you need for the Linky!
Copy and be ready to Paste that whole URL found in the address bar at the top of the page.
Copy and be ready to Paste that whole URL found in the address bar at the top of the page.
Now before you go any further I want you to stop and READ the Linky Tutorial HERE.
When you’ve read it, and understand it, THEN Click the “Add your link” at the bottom of this post and start the process of adding your photo to the Link-Up.
The URL that you copied from your Pinterest photo goes HERE:
You will paste the address of your Pinterest photo where it says URL. Then add your name, and your email address.
Click NJext Step and follow along with the linky form to complete your entry!
The same thing goes if you are adding a photo from Flickr or from Instagram. You can’t link to your whole profile, please provide just the address of the photo you are linking.
Are you ready to link up, Bloggers, Flickr’rs, Pinteresters & Instagramers? I can’t wait to see your progress!
Some other small text for the newbies and oldbies who need reminding:
If you have never participated in a Link-Up before, the first thing I want you to do is to read the entire tutorial I wrote about Link-Ups HERE so you can know a few things before you dive in head first.
There is a lot of good information there that will help you understand things like WHY we need the address or URL of your individual specific post, not just your main blog address. It will show you how to FIND the correct URL and link it correctly.
Remember, if you link to your main blog, and not the specific post I will have to delete your entry and have you try again because I can’t fix it for you.
To find the URL for the specific post, go to your blog and click on the title of the post you want to link. Look in the address bar at the top of your browser. The address of your post should end in .html NOT .com!
PLEASE LEAVE OFF the http:// part at the beginning of your blog address when you fill in your info below . The form auto-adds that for you. If I were linking, my address would start with Quiltville.blogspot.com/ not http://Quiltville.blogspot.com/
Also: If you are linking from a mobile device -- delete the last /?=m from the URL before posting! Those of us on a computer will get a really awkward looking page if you post your mobile URL from your tablet or phone. Your link should end in .html or just /
*NOTE* Your blog address does NOT include the @ symbol! That's for email addresses only, and that won't work in the linky either!
If you don’t have a blog you may link to your Flickr photo or Grand Illusion Album that you have created (Not your whole account, please make it specific) Or a photo you have posted on Pinterest sharing your progress ((Also specific, not your whole profile)) You can not link to facebook. Any posts linking to a facebook profile will be deleted.
Your blog must be view-able to ALL, not just a handful of people that you have invited. If your blog or Pinterest is private, please don't link up. It's frustrating to those who click to view and are told they can't because of your privacy settings.
You can link ANY progress of ANY step on any of the Link-Ups.
For instance, if we are on a Link-Up for part 4 – and you are just on part 1, you can still link that. Just SHARE where you are!
In your post, Flickr or Pinterest photo – PLEASE include a link back to THIS POST http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2014/12/mystery-monday-link-up-part-2.html not just to Quiltville.blogspot.com. I post more than once a day, so if someone clicks a link on your page to just my main address – they likely won’t find the link-up. That will only take them to the most recent post on the blog. They won't find any of the other links that people have taken time to place on this page. It will be a dead end street for them.
Don't BE the DEAD END STREET!
Make your links (Both yours and mine) post specific.
New links can be added until Thursday, December 11th at 11:55pm EST.
OH! And there WILL BE Quilt-CAM Wednesday Night, Dec 10th at 9pm EST! See you back here then!

Thank you Bonnie....you don't just learn Quilting here :) Kathryn
I'm calling my Pinks "Barbie" pink! That is a very striking space. Bold colors. The winter Blues won't be around as long as I'm stitching along qith you on with this Mystery.
It is so interesting to know why we made these units, love all this information regarding the Grand Hotel. Thanks Bonnie.
Bonnie
I am number 9 on the link up and a picture didn't post from my blog. Not sure what happened maybe it was too large. I did it from my kindle and after it posted and had a blank picture I tried to fix it but it said link already exists. Any clue as to if I can change it and try again. Maybe delete it? and do over??
I can't believe how quickly I completed Clue 2! After being in your class two weeks plus ago, I have been re-doing my scrap drawers. In the past, it was drag out the drawer, pick through and select pieces that were of adequate size to use in my project, cut them to size and sew. Now, I have gone through (amazingly enough) the colors for GMI as well as my alternate project, My Blue Heaven. I can't believe how much more quickly I am sewing. Clue 2 is the perfect example; just picked up my pink, neutral and black 2 1/2" strips, and had all the units cut on Friday evening. Busy on Saturday, but still make 40 Clue 2 blocks, and finished the rest early in the afternoon yesterday. Bonnie, you're a genius, an excellent teacher of both quilting, and computer technology! Love ya.
P.S. I would love to buy a book that representa s complete collection of Addicted to Scraps! Any thoughts of that for the future?
Bonnie
I enjoyed a busy day cutting and joining and see clue No 2 first results then linking up.
Thanks for every details.
Hi Bonnie, thanks for the help with posting a Pinterest link to the Monday link-up, mine worked better this week! And I included the link back to the link up post as you requested. Now I am off to start finishing the rest of my clue #2 blocks. Let me sew, let me sew, let me sew!!! (Not much snow here in San Diego...:-)
Bless your girlfriend... all those screen shots took a lot of time .... hope they are well used and appreciated.
Wow, I am # 121 linker-upper ;-)
As always your mystery is magic - thank you so much! And giving us 3 (!) methods for the Double Diamonds, you are the best!
Wow is all I can say. The ones I can see look fabulous. And the variety is amazing. There are going to be some awesome quilts again. Why can I see some of the blogs but others say I have to sign in or that link isn't available?
I visited all the ones I could from work (flickr and pinterest blocked here) and left comments. LOVE seeing everyone's colors and mysteries take shape! :) Happy Monday for me!
I need to stop drooling over everyone's sewn blocks and get to cutting and sewing! amazing how so many of us are using the same color pallet, yet there are so many different wonderful fabrics. quilts are like a box of chocolate, you never know what you might create.
Thanks Bonnie for the great tutorial re sharing to the link via Pinterest, always something to learn learning & very much appreciated when someone else has worked out the details & is so generous with their knowledge x
Well I missed the time. It is just after 10pm in San Diego... I have part of my Clue 2 done...the majority yet to go. Thank goodness it is Friday tomorrow! Sandi
Wow! found out I had an easy angle ruler I didn't know I had! That sure made things easier!
