Goodies from Great Britain! Give-Away!

giveawayTime

I brought home some goodies from England for you!

It was fun to see all the various publications that we can’t get here.

The covers are intriguing, and I wanted to devour each and every one ---some things are the same as what we can get here, I think the internet and digital media has made it so we all see what each country is doing in live time, and that is wonderful, but I also love to catch glimpses of how things are different, how things THERE reflect the life and the times of the people in that country.

20140809_144427

Katy Jones, Editor of Quilt Now Magazine!

I first learned of Katy when my Scrappy Trips quilt went viral thanks to Katy starting a #scrappytripalong on Instagram.  VIRAL doesn’t begin to describe what happened to that lowly little charity quilt pattern that I published in 1999.  Fun how new fabrics and a whole new onslaught of quilters can give an oldie but a goodie new life!

When Katy messaged me after reading that I was on the plane to the UK, we arranged a meet up.

You can find Katy’s blog HERE and be watching for her new fabric line, Priory Square from Art Gallery Fabrics to be available soon.  I hope to be bumping into her in Houston in October!  ((If I’m able to make it, the jury is still out on that one!))

At any rate..Katy gifted me THESE copies to offer to you as a give-away!

20140818_070201

Quilt Now!!

It’s a value packed issue, including supplies and pattern for TWO strawberry pincushions in each package, one for you, one for a friend!

Leave me a comment below, including your name and email address if they are not visible in your blogger/google profile. If I draw you and you don’t have an email address, I get to draw again!

If you are visiting this page after clicking a link in Facebook or a blog reader service like Bloglovin on your mobile device, open this page in a new browser window to be able to comment.

One comment per person, yada yada yada!  I’ll be drawing on Friday evening for our two winners via random number generator!

Only comments left in the comments section to this post are eligible to win.  You can’t leave a comment in the guestbook, email, Facebook or instagram to be entered.

I think that’s all the small print!  Good luck everyone!

20140818_051024-1

On the Quilty side…

I was up at 4am, couldn't sleep ---((Thought I was over the jet lag!)) and puttered around in the sewing room searching for border fabrics for a project I was working on in June.  JUNE!  It’s been borderless since JUNE!  Well, I plan to fix that this next week when Siobhan and Tonya come to retreat with me at Quilt Villa.  I’m making piles of everything that needs to go!

My stash is ages old and full of many treasures. Fabric really doesn't have an expiration date does it?  How long has this been waiting for just the right project?

I love my fabric no matter how long I've had it. To me it's about color and value and texture and emotion and not about any one particular designer, manufacturer or fabric line. I feel very much in the minority where that is concerned. I just want to choose and use my fabric without labels.

And oh yeah…there WILL be QUILT CAM tonight at 9pm Eastern!  Bring a project, come to the blog, find the post and click the arrow to start the feed and sew with me!

See you then!

I love quilt magazines. I was given a bunch of older magazines and it was fun to notice the differences in techniques and fabric. Most of all I noticed the lack of internet resources. We forget in the old days there were addresses and envelopes and letters as part of gathering information

I'm with you Bonnie on the mixing in anything and everything fabrics - I'm afraid making a quilt from one line of fabric is just too safe for me - I love the unexpected cropping up when you least expect it - and nothing like a good check or plaid popped in to counter the sweet sickly sugaryness of all those florals

I dont't really need/want the magazine, but I wanted to add that I'm also in the minority with you about fabric and color/value and not the brand.

And that is why I appreciate you, Bonnie. I feel like we can us what we have--albeit it a used shirt,a scrap of Moda, VIP or a sheet.

Thanks for all you do for the quilting community. You have a huge following because you are "one of us", yet one who truly leads the way. I can barely stand to read some of the quilt blogs due to their attitude to fabric and the way they throw around brand names of fabric. It isn't really where most of us live. I live in a country where regular quilt shops don't exist and fabric (purchased on line) is extremely expensive. I can't even imagine the VAT tax added if customs felt like it.

However, I can quilt because I can "use what I have". Thanks for your constant encouragement to those of us who do what we can with what we have.

I found you when I was donated some truly ugly fabric (from the USA) and I didn't know what to do with it. I searched and found your saying about "no fabric is ugly if it is cut small enough"--or something like that.

I began quilting then.

I would berry much like to make this pincushion, but I can only win if you 'pick' me! ;)

I'm not partial to any particular fabric designers or lines either. I use what I can afford and like. I don't buy precuts either.

I do like magazines, though. There's always room for inspiration!
