Check out these original feed sack fabrics!
These are the REAL DEAL! And I love seeing them being sewn up into such a beautiful quilt.
Our quilter said she had been collecting feed sacks for DECADES and it was time to start sewing with them.
She is using plain ordinary old muslin as her background, and it suits these fabrics well. It matches the era that they came from. I also love the odd colors that we find in real feed sacks that we just don’t find in reproductions on the bolt. The odd balls make this quilt sing!
Blocks coming together! This is going to be awesome!
It was a very fun day, sponsored by Mountain Creek Quilt Shop of Greenback, Tennessee and we had visitors from all over the area in to sew.
Check out Jodi’s Cranberry Featherweight baby! Whoowhooo!
Jodi is the owner of Whistle Stop Quilt Retreat in Sweetwater, Tennessee, a gorgeous 150 year old farm house that has been turned into a fabulous retreat center with room to sleep 18 guests and accommodate all sewing needs!
Jodi was kind enough to cater our lunch yesterday:
How CUTE is this?!
Lunch in Jars!
Mine was completely gluten free, nice! And I loved how she served everything in canning jars – chicken salad, yogurt with fresh fruit, gluten free crackers and a gluten free scotch-a-roo yummy for dessert. Her attention to detail made lunch a really fun break in our sewing day.
Our ladies sewed and sewed and sewed, and the most beautiful blocks of all combinations were soon coming together.

Pineapple Blossom, Loudon, TN 2014 |
This morning I am packing it up and headed to Kentucky!
It's a beautiful day for a road trip. I've got Shamu almost loaded, and I'll be heading out as soon as I hit send on this post. I hope to be meeting many of you at the Sewing Expo being sponsored by the University of Kentucky Extension Service, being held at General Butler State Resort Park outside of Carrollton, Kentucky.
Have a great Sunday, everyone!

The flour sacks were really cool...loved that and lunch looked so fun...how creative!! I'm going to use that for a sew day with my girlfriends if I can ever get them all rounded up at the same time! LOL! Travel safe. :)
BEAUTIFUL!!! I love the pictures with the blocks set 2 X 4 ... the colorful blocks take on the look of butterflies!!! Happy travels, Bonnie!
Sorry I didnt get to be a part of this weekend's activities. Maybe next time! Safe travels to you...
Oh my, the cranberry FW is beautiful and boy do those feed sacks sing. All the ladies are doing a great job and the color waves are fabulous.
Hope Kentucky is just as good as TN.

As ever, I am always amazed the such different fabrics can make a block literally evolve into another 'version"
Have a safe easy trip up to KY - take time to 'take the time' and do something for BONNIE today! Happy Palm Sunday to all.

Hi Bonnie,
The feed sacks brought back memories, I recognized some of the sack material in them, my mom made maternity outfits from them for her to work in. LOL!! It was 52 yrs ago, when she carried my sister, as a matter of fact she made them to carry both of my sisters & without a pattern. Were these quilts paper pieced or foundation pieced?
Glad you had a wonderful time!
Hope the gal with the feed sacks fabric posts a finished top photo. Would love to see.
That Cranberry Featherweight is so covetable!! Looks like everyone had a lot of fun and lunch looks yummy :)
Lovely work.
The cranberry machine was delicious!
I know you had a great time - I love the 30's fabric in the pineapple quilt. I guess I had better put that on my to do list (WHICH IS VERY VERY LONG!) LOL
