***NOTE*** This Give-Away has ended!! Contracts to pdudgeon!!
Have you watched Why Quilts Matter?
The series has aired on PBS and has been featured on The Quilt Show, but we're still trying to get the word out to quilters. All proceeds of the series go back to the non-profit Kentucky Quilt Project to fund future quilt projects.
In 2011, thirty years since its founding, The Kentucky Quilt Project, Inc., has created another “first” – a nine-part documentary series titled Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics. The series takes a fresh look at quilts and spreads the word about their unique position at the center of a startlingly broad grid of topics, ranging from women’s studies to the contemporary art market.
"Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics" is the landmark nine-part documentary series that offers a fresh, relevant exploration of quilts. Why was this series created? Check out this video interview with Shelley Zegart below!
This fascinating series explores quilts in fresh new ways by taking you behind the scenes to reveal the unique position of quilts at the center of American culture. You'll go on an amazing quilt journey from function to art, to women's empowerment, economic clout, American politics and beyond.
"This compelling and visually rich series convinces us that quilts do matter. VERDICT: This wonderful series would be an important addition for all museums, libraries and quilt guilds."

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 530 Newer› Newest»Quilts matter to me, because it is a way to express myself. Would love to win this.
Quilts matter because they represent the continuing love flowing from generation to generation in a family. They are a physical representation of that glue that holds families together.
When we moved last March we gave up TV so I can't watch this series on TV...so see I need to win :0)
thanks for the chance.
Quilting is my therapy, I use to think that was a cute saying but now I really do use it too unwind, and de-stress and feel like I am making a gift someone will really love.
And of course now that you have turned me on to scrappy it is a new love affair with quilting!
Happy Sewing
have never heard of this series and would love to have it as yes quilts do matter. they bring much joy to everyone either the maker or receiver. would love to watch the series.
I have an old quilt top my Grandmother made. The fabric is tattered because she only had old, worn out clothing to use for her quilts. I also have several quilts my mother made. These quilts hold a special place in my heart because of the connections to their makers.
I am new to quilting. This looks like a great resource!
Quilts matter...they are our heritage. Not only our hetitage from the past, but our hetitage to future generations. They are a source of comfort and warmth as well as a gift to treasure and feel pride in. Jan Harbuck. Jannifer70@gmail.com
Quilts matter because it is a way to leave a piece of yourself for your children, grandchildren, etc. They only have to wrap up in a quilt you made to feel your love.

I keep telling everyone quilting is my therapy. I even have a necklace piece that says quilting is cheaper than therapy... unfortunately I don't think that is true ;o)
I am going to search for this program, it sounds very interesting. Thanks for the heads up!

I think quilts matter for the same reason that art matters...each and every quilt is an expression of something that moved someone to create, thus leaving a small portion of their soul on display for the world to see! pbstrand@msn.com
Quilts tell a story and this helps to put the story into words.
Quilts are a link to the past....to those we have loved and those which we have never known.
As a quilter, the more I learn the better quilter I become and can pass it on to others. Wish I had some from my family, but I'm making sure my family has quilts to keep and pass on.
Quilts matter to me for a variety of reasons going back in my family, but mainly because they're a perfect junction between right brain/left brain impulses. They combine a creative and artistic outlet with tangible, practical, even frugal benefits. I personally couldn't enjoy the creative process as much if the end result wasn't so useful.
Sounds like a wonderful series! Quilts matter to me in many ways. I am the only quilter in the family and I am fairly new, but now my niece is starting to sew. Hoping she gets bit by the quilting bug!
Quilts matter to me because they are a link to just why I love to quilt so much! My great-grandmother, who I never knew except through her quilts, was a quilter. And my mother-in-law taught me that it's okay to quilt (My own mother was a "city-girl" and not much into things "made by hand"... part of her struggles with "not much" growing up, I think. I love quilts! And the process of making them. Would love to own the series!! Thanks for thinking of us.
Quilts are a window into the past and a link to the future. I have my grandmother's hand pieced and hand quilted quilts and hope that some day my grandchildren will have my quilts.
Quilting is my sanctuary and fun. My grandmothers quilted and I have only one in very bad shape--my children will have many!!! This series sounds fantastic.
Pick me - Pick me I have a book on the history of quilts & I love it. This would be great to share with a guild.
I would love to win this, quilts are a way to keep on giving someone a hug when you are not with them.

Bonnie, great give away.
Why quilts matter?
Where do I start.
They matter having vintage quilts to guess about their stories.
They matter with our quilts from generations before us.
They matter when I know everyone in my large family all have a keepsake quilt from me.
They matter as a good reason to take classes and go to retreats to meet and share the love of quiting.
They matter because what else would I do 10-12 hours a day without quilting and quilting blogs to read, mystery quilts to follow.
They just matter so much. HUGS
Quilts matter because they are practical and indulgent all at the same time :-)
Quilts matter to me because they connect me in a very sensory way to all the artful, creative, caring, conserving, and Anonymous women who came before me and who went unremarked and undocumented. Yet they left behind such a fabulously warm and wonderful legacy by which I can today warm myself and take so much inspiration.
Loved the first series of Why Quilts Matter. Look forward to seeing this new series.
Quilts fill a place in my soul somehow. I love them, love making them, love giving them to people or keeping them myself. I have seen parts of "Why Quilts Matter" but would love to owm the set. Thanks.
Quilts are made and given with love, in the hopes that the recipient will enjoy and remember that love.
Quilts matter to me as I love making them and giving them away. I haven't seen this series and would love to please pick me.
Quilts matter to me because my grandmother encouraged me to assemble my first quilt and then had quilting bees in her home with ladies from our church helping to do the quilting. So many good memories.
I make quilts as they matter to me I lave making and giving them away.
Quilts matter because they are art. Thanks for the chance!
Thanks for another great giveaway. Quilts matter to me because hopefully the ones gifted will know the love that went into the creation of each quilt and feel that love each time they are wrapped in their special quilt. Thanks again, Bonnie!

For me it's simple. My mantra is 'My soul is fed by needle and thread'. By looking at vintage quilts you can see into the soul of the maker; and some day, the same will be true of the quilts I have stitched.
This sounds like a fabulous series. I'm sorry I missed it when it was on PBS. I would love to share this with my guild if I was so lucky to win it.
Quilts matter to me because of soft fabric; beautiful colours etc. It's nice to be able to create something precious and finish it. It's a great distraction to keep going in life.
I think this is an awesome series and would love to have it. I can't recall all of what I watched, but would love to be able to go back to it again and again for a refresher. Thanks for the chance to win this, and good luck to all.
There is so much history in quilts, including the ones we are currently working on. Thanks for the chance to win.
Why do Quilts matter..... Has anyone ever felt it a legacy...Well that's how I feel. My grandmother (my daddy's mommy) was a quilter and I feel she left this legacy to me to carry on. I never knew this woman, only met her once at age 10, but never knew her. She wasn't the gramma who made me cookies, or babysat when needed...I flat out never knew her, but her quilts would show up each year out of our scrap pieces of clothing and it was like she was there to keep us warm. When I became old enough to play with needles and thread I would cut out pieces and put them together in random, hadn't a clue what I was doing, but I knew they needed to go together. So its my legacy to carry this on into the next generation. Stress of advertising brought me back to quilting, and wont give it up again....

Quilts matter because they provide textile history, establish a connection between familial generations, and provide warmth and comfort. In addition, they are one of the few handcrafts that actually have a useful function. -dwynette@appleberryquilts.com
I love making quilts, reading about them, looking at them and looking at patterns, books, fabric. Anything related to quilting.
Quilting matters because they tell a story and they are history. Some are mysteries because they don't have labels but we try to tell their stories by researching the fabric of their lives...Quilted stories matter.
Quilt matters, because it gives me such joy in making them, and also seeing the joy of the recipient. I love giving away quilts.
Another reason why quilt matters is that they keep the recipient warm and cozy!
Thanks for the giveaway.

Quilting helped me stay sane while I lived with and cared for my 90+ year old father the last 6 years of his life. I also have made comfort quilts and memory quilts for friends and family with cancer and for a cousin who lost a 2-year-old daughter. Each quilt is special, no matter how simple or complex it is. Looking forward to watching the PBS series! Thank you for the opportunity to share and to enter your drawing.
Quilts matter because they are an avenue to express your creativity, a way to bridge the generation, and a way to decompress from our busy daily lives.

Quilts tie me to my gone but never forgotten grandmothers. Growing up we had quilts, and I received one of my own from one grandmother and since acquired another needing repair from my other grandmother. The latter is made from woolen Pendleton jackets from the 40s/50s. Quilts take time to make, and each stitch, when being made for a loved one, is filled with love and when received it's like having love draped all over us :)
Love to watch this with my Mom.
Sandra(dot)klassen(at)pobox(dot)com
HI I love to make quilts scrappy ones are the best.
look at each piece and there is a story behind it.
I was given a treadle which I still have when I was 12.
look at the faces of the person you give to it lights up their eyes,
Quilts do matter! I love to see my great-niece and great-nephew drag their "baby" quilts around their house then lay the quilt on top of their bed each night. And now they are begging me for "a bigger quilt, Aunt Lisa, one like dad has." In short, quilts create memories of loved ones, both while I make the quilt and for them using the quilt.
quilting is so important. This is such a cool show concept!
Quilts are the heart strings that connect the generations. One of my earliest memories is my grandmother quilting on her treadle sewing machine. I was so happy when she finally let me try! I want to pass down the love of quilts to my children and grandchildren.
Quilts matter because it is proof of creativity when there seemed to be no creative outlet environment. Quilts add a spark of color comfort to life.
I really would like to get this . Watch it and then pass it on. That way others would learn from it to. Thanks again Bonnie.
I have found making quilts to be a way to share memories via fabric and as a creative outlet. I made queen-sized quilts for both my children when they married, using fabric scraps from clothes I made them, and other leftover fabrics. I am very interested in this DVD series. We just moved from Kentucky last summer after living there all our married life (30 years). My husband took a new position and we are now in central Mississippi but we miss Kentucky! As far as quilting for a creative outlet: I have three projects in the works! Beth.neihof@gmail.com
why quilts matter to me, first it was a way to leave something for my children that I had made that would last a long time, then it was a way to get through cancer treatments, to keep my mind focused on something, lasting and creative, when I was not sure how long I would be here, but just kept quilting, and I survived cancer, quilting is a way to help veterans know that I appreciate them paying the price for my freedom. Quilting matters on so many levels that I find it necessary in my life!! Thanks Bonnie for all you do to entertain me:))
i really enjoy quilting and so many of my family wouldn't have heat if the power with off , i am keeping them warm
I would love to win this DVD and guide. It sounds like it will be very informative. Enjoy your stay at Quilt Villa.
Quilts matter because they are a form of self expression. When I create a quilt I feel like I am leaving a piece of myself for future generations!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to try and win the set. Would love the chance to watch this series!
Cool. thanks for running this giveway. Love the PBS series
I come from a long line of sewers. Fabric has always been in my life and quilting is just another part of the love I have of fabric and all that can be done with it. Quilts matter because they are a part of history a very important part of history.
Quilts matter to me because they give me an outlet for my creativity, they allow me to give gifts that are unique and will always remind the recipient of me and I have made most of my dearest friends through quilting.
Faith in Maine
Quilts matter because they are as much a part of our history as the people. Grandma, mother, and me, we all made them! It is a big part of my life without quilting I am not me. I wouldn't know the wonderful quilters that I do too. DH would say if I didn't quilt, he would have his Mustang(which he thinks is hidden in my stash somewhere)!!
Quilts do matter as objects of warmth and beauty. they matter because of their connection to the past.
Liz
Quilts are a tangible connection to another person in an era when our lives are mostly lived in cyberspace. I have lots of other things I love about quilts, but this is one of the biggest things.
My Quilts are My Creative outlet. I love the Piecing part and seeing the patterns and design emerge. I Hope that they matter to those who I leave behind when I'm through. Trying to get them finished so they don't all CURSE me for being a TOPPER! I would LOVE to have this set of DVD's. Thanks for all you offer us Quilters.
For me a quilt is a human connection - the recipient is special enough that the maker chose fabrics and pattern and invested time to create. Making a quilt is a way to express love and appreciation for someone.
The series sounds interesting - I hope my local library has ordered it or receives it as a donation!

Quilts matter because...they create beauty and function; they connect families; they perpetuate traditions; because they are FUN!!!!
Thanks for this chance to win! Quilts matter to me because teaching myself to quilt has got me through some very hard times. Now it is a huge part of who I am, and I look back at those quilts I made and feel a sense of having something good come out of all that bad. My daughter watched me quilt things together when otherwise I think she would have grown up watching me fall apart. Quilts matter very much to my family, as I think they do to many, many others. I'm indebted to every quilter before me.
Kate Allen, kate_orchardmerkel@o2.co.uk
Quilts matter to me because they connect me to the grandmother whose quilts I slept under and who cut up little squares and taught me how to make a nine patch. And they matter to those around me because I hope that someday they will feel the same connection sleeping under a quilt made by me.
I should like to be a winner in this give away.
Thanks foor organising.

Quilts matter to me for SO MANY reasons. I feel a connections with my grandmother who taught me to sew and made me my first quilt. It is also a way for me to leave a legacy for my family and friends. Each and every quilt is a work of love with a piece of my heart and soul stitched into it.
Quilting has been my life long hobby, entertainment, exercise for the mind (making border etc fit),opportunity to interact with others with purpose and most of all it has given me a very useable end product. Just a win, win situation.
Now............just to win!!!!!
Hugs everyone!

Quilts matter to me because I find the whole process of quilting very relaxing. When I am working on a quilt I am in a happy place, where I can forget the worries of my life. For me quilting is a process that makes me a woman, my husband can live with. I also love how it brings people together. I have made many friends through quilting.

Quilts matter because they are pieces of family, love and history. Happy New Year from Oklahoma, USA. crystalbluern at onlineok dot com
Quilts matter because they connect generations. I have quilts made by my great-grandmother, grandmother, great-aunt, and mother. My mother and great-aunt taught me to sew, and I taught my niece to make her 1st quilt. Quilting is my creative expression and stress relief. Quilts provide comfort and warmth, physically and emotionally.
For me they are a tangible expression of love
Quilts matter ... the heart and mind are creatively expressed in quilts and is often a reflection of the family unit - the thoughts and love of a person all wrapped up in something tangible that is left for generations to come.
Quilts are important because they help tell who we are. They reflect what is important to us and our families.elively@indy.rr.com
Quilts matter because they keep us connected to the past, the future and the here and now.

Making quilts are an expression of my creativity, an opportunity to give a gift made with love and the means to show I care, whether it be for a friend or a stranger.
Quilts matter because when you are wrapped in a quilt, it is like being wrapped in a hug from the creator of that quilt. In fact, even when it is old and thread bare and is just for looking at, not wrapping up in because it is fragile, it is still like a hug just to glance at it and remember the care and love that went into it.
Quilts matter because they allow us to be creative, they relect the culture and history of their makers, and for me, quilting gave me the greatest group of friends that anyone could ask for.
I have thought about buying this for a long time. I would love to it to share with my quilt guilds. Kweather78@aol.com
I would love to see this wonderful series. Making and giving someone a quilt is like wrapping them up in a big hug. A hug that will last for years!

I started quilting to express myself in my new family. Making quilts for grandchildren is a tradition that I wanted to carry on (had alot to make when I married a man and all of a sudden I have 16 grandchildren)What i have found through quilting is balance in my life, expression of creativity, a new way of looking at color and nature that I didn't appreciate before, and self confidence. Quilts matter to me because they are now what I am known for and are my legacy.
Quilts matter because they are a labor of love and a comfort.. And it is in our heritage.
I would LOVE this CD to donate to my guild- I think a lot of people would be very interested in it!
I would LOVE this CD to donate to my guild- I think a lot of people would be very interested in it!
I would love to get these to donate to my guild- we are a group of very dedicated quilters
I would love to get these to donate to my guild.
Quilts matter to me because my great grandmother made my first quilt. It was plain but boy was it made with love and warmth of her heart. It is something that I still treasure this day. I have attempted to make quilts for all of my children as a way to pass that love along.
Quilts matter because you can follow along the history of our country through our quilts. Quilts keep us warm and bring us comfort. They are used to document events such as marriages and are an artistic expression. I missed a lot by not knowing my older relatives. My mother sewed but didn't quilt, so I didn't learn about quilting until recently. I would love to win Why Quilts Matter. I'm sure that I could learn much more about quilts if I won. Thanks!!
Quilts matter to me because quilting is relaxing and provides a creative outlet for me. I am able to make something that reflects a part of me (whether it is a color or a certain block).
Bonnie! You ROCK the quilting world. I would LOVE the chance to win this prize.
Thanks

Quilts matter to me because they give me a creative outlet, while at the same time provide a hug of warmth to the recipient. So much of my love is in each stitch that I hope my love of the craft and of the person receiving is all part of the "snuggle" factor. Thanks for the giveaway!
Quilts are love. They are time effort and memory. They are skill, dedication, determination and warmth. Quilts are a tangible legacy that we can give to others and hand down.
Thanks for the drawing! To me, quilts matter because they give a creative outlet and show the recipient how much you care. They also contain a wealth of history, love, warmth and beauty!
Robin, robin.nalepa@verizon.net
I like quilting because of the tangible long lasting results but also because each one is unique in a point in time - I know mine are unique. I don't have any family heirlooms, but I will leave some pretty quilts!
Where have I been? I haven't even heard of this series! I'd love to watch it. Quilts do matter!
Quilts are tangible art, comfort, a human connection, a fabric hug. Whenever i am sick, I get under a very tattered now polyester crazy quilt my mother in law made me in the 70s. It is like I can be with her and her care.
Quilts matter to me because working on a quilt soothes my soul, snuggling under one warms my body, and hanging one embelishes my home. My quilts are works of love to my family and friends who receive them. I would be honored to receive the "Why Quilts Matter" dvds. Thank you so much, Bonnie, for hosting this giveaway.
Bonnie you always have the best giveaways.
"Why Quilts Matter" to me, they matter because making them is my way to express my creative side (as opposed to my logical work side - accountant), and it's my release from the stress and strains of life.
The other way they matter to me is the wonderful feeling I get when I see the smile on the face of recipient of one of my quilts. I've never sold one, I always give them away... and the feeling of goodwill is almost better than a box of chocolates. :)
Making quilts is a way for me to express my creativity, and it has kept me sane during many crazy times in my life. And I love giving away my quilts as a way to share my love with my friends and family. That's why quilts matter to me! Thanks for the chance to win this documentary.
I'd love to watch this series.
Why do quilts matter? I think that they matter to different people in different ways: an unexpected present, a source of comfort for who knows what, sometimes even unknown to the giver.
To a quilter a quilt is like a child, or so I read recently. You invest so much time in it that it becomes an extension of yourself. But like a child when your work on it is done you have to let go.
After one and a half years of patchwork and quilting I've still got a lot to learn, but I have learnt that my best effort is exactly that and I must be satisfied with less than perfection. There's certainly no point I beating myself up over points that don't match; next time there will be fewer.
I've never considered myself to be unemancipated, but I have found a hobby, with its associated community, that gives me a new sense of worth. That matters.
Quilts matter because they tell stories--our histories! Angelia in GA, angel4u2@cox.net
Quilts matter to those who make them and those who receive them... they are made with love and caring..and represent a time in the quilters life and can be a remembrance of those who we have lost..
Quilts matter to me because of the love that goes into making them whether it is for a baby or a relative who doesn’t know they need one but you need to make that quilt so that you can put all the love you can into making that quilt because you can’t be with them when they need you. I also love the messages they relay that they were alive and well as portrayed in the Changi quilts form a person of war camp and now resides in the Australian war museum.
Hi Bonnie,
This wasn't shown on PBS in our area, but I would love to see it.
Quilts matter for so many reasons, both personal and historic, but my initial exposure to quilting was through my local chapter of the Quilts for Kids organization. Making quilts for sick little ones gives me such a feeling of giving back, particularly as a cancer survivor myself. I have branched out to making quilts as gifts for family and friends, who all seem thrilled to receive them. I am so glad to have discovered the art of quilting, and the generous and caring people of the quilting community!
Why Quilts matter to me: I quilt because I am. My love of quilting stems from my innate need to create, an integral part of my personality that cannot be denied. I have used many different mediums to fulfil that creative drive – pencil, paint, flowers, clay but fabric is what truly speaks to my heart. Quilting satisfies the desire to make something with my own two hands. It is at once, exciting to see the colors and shapes and movement come together, yet quiet and soothing as the fabric passes through my hands. The resultant quilt is tangible proof of my creative drive but it is not only decorative. A quilt can provide for the basic needs of humans – shelter & warmth. Quilting combines but the logical and organized with the creative and artistic – balancing both sides of who I am.
I do not have quilters that preceded me in my family that I am aware of, so my quilts are the connection to future generations and maybe a quiet nod to the past generations unknown quilter.
Quilts matter to me because as I am making a quilt as a gift I am thinking of that special person. Quilts matter because they serve many great functions. They keep us warm. They warm the artist's eye.
I am hoping I win this great prize as the show is not on in my location.
XOXOXO Subee
Why quilts matter? Its a generation thing for me. My grandmother made some quilts. My Aunt has been quilting for 40 years. She is the one who inspired me to quilt. Now my mom quilts. She always has sewn but she quilts. Now I have 4 nieces and I hope to teach 2 of them to quilt. Quilting is a way for all of us to share apart of our lives.
Quilts matter because it connects people---I have quilts made by those who went before me and were given with love to their families...quilts connect women to each other--we express ourselves and share our lives together while we quilt..
Quilts matter. They are a part of our everyday life. Thanks again for all you do.
I would have to say that the reason quilts matter is because they connect us with our past, engage us in our present, and leave a piece of us for the future. I wish I had quilts from my family but seems no one quilted! How can that be? I have seen a bit of the show and it is wonderful.
Quilts matter because they comfort our physical and emotional needs. They keep us warm at night and when we are under the weather. Making them helps fulfill our emotional needs. I am not familiar with this series so I would really love to win them so I can view all. Thanks for the chance
Quilts matter to me because they provide a connection to all of the women in my family past and present. Quilts tie us together in a way that nothing else can.
My mom taught me to sew and still helps me with my quilts. My favorite quilt is one that by great grandmother and grandmother made together.
These DVD's look great
Quilts matter because making them is great for my mental health!! I would LOVE to win the CD's. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to win.
Quilts matter for a variety of reasons, but mostly for the memories and the love.
I would love to have a CD of this series to donate to my guild.
I have been aware of this series, but have not had the chance to see it and would love to win the DVDs.
Quilts matter to me because they are a connection to my family and the past, and a link to the future.
I think quilts matter because they are such valuable records of history: of fabric, techniques, women't lives and work. Thank your for the great giveaway!!!
QUILTS MATTER because they connect you to the past and the WORLD. I have lived with quilts all my life. My Great Grandmother was a seamstress who used her scraps to make quilts. When she died not only did we have quilts to remember her by but TOPS galore with notes and newspaper clippings of patterns. We've all had a hand at working on HER work....sometimes with thread she left behind. Thanks for the chance!
Would Love to watch all the programs together. Thanks for the giveaway
I'm happy to hear about this series - will try to locate and watch, but, would love to win the DVD's in case I can't. I'm fairly 'new' to quilting, but, love the process of the making - the idea, the designing, the color creation, the sewing, ... all of it is SO fulfilling! Best of all, to be able to gift it to someone who can appreciate all that went into it's creation!
Quilts matter on so many levels. When I make aquilt part of me is in it. My love. will wrap whomever it is made for. I always pray for the person receiving it as I stitch it together from the beginning right down to hand stitching the binding. Quilts also are alink to the past. My most treasured quilts are those made by my grandmothers and hubby's grandmothers. I am fortunately to have family quilts from the 1800's through the mid1900's,. many in pristine condition. They all have stories to tell and are so important to me.
I didn't have grandparents that took part in textiles. My mother did sew cloths for us when we were young but no one in my family quilted until about twelve years ago when me, my sister and my mother all started quilting. Both of my girls have learned to sew and have made quilts of their own, but look forward to receiving the ones I make. Quilts matter because they are family! Thank you for such a wonderful blog page. I think quilts more than anything else seem to convey a feeling of the comfort of childhood, home, family, and LOVE. I've wanted to see this series ever since it aired on PBS but have never been able to find it on my local stations. Would love, love, love to win it! Thank you for the opportunity.
Quilts matter to me as a creative outlet, as a way to give something made with care to a loved one or a complete stranger in need of a little brightening in his or her life. Quilts made by our foremothers impress and inspire me. Perhaps the biggest gift to me, however, is the friends I've made through quilting. What a community quilters have!
I would love to see these DVD's and then donate them to my quilt guild library so everyone can take a turn. Barb

Quilts matter because they are a connection between generations. I have some of my great grandmother's quilts that connect me to her even though I never met her. My quilts will be passed down through my family, connecting me to them in warm hugs of love. Not to mention that my quilts are a creative outlet and keep me out of trouble!!
Quilts matter because they are a legacy from prior generations. To email me and tell me that I won send the email to quiltn221@yahoo.com. Wink, wink!
Quilts matter becAuse all the quiltmakers matter. All the women who made quilts to keep their family warm and those for whom making quilts gives her piece of mind
Quilts matter because they are an expression of women and their times. Plus they are beautiful art and practical household items.
Quilts matter to me! It's a way to connect to the women who have come before me, and leave something for those who will come after. All quilts carry a piece of the maker's heart - and that was what Janis Joplin was singing about :)

Quilts to me are my way of expressing love. I truly treasure the time I spend with other quilters at my local quilt store (Quilt Trends) in Columbus, Ohio. There are amazingly talented people that gather to quilt and have fellowship.

Bonnie, quilts matter to me because they keep me sane. When the rest of the world was trying to drive me nuts, I could lose myself for a weekend, in quilting. Monday morning always came, but I was recharged and ready to go back out there!! Now that I am retired, Quilting is an lutlet for my creativity! I am no artist by a long shot, but I do well with various colors and patterns!
I would ove to won this DVD!

Quilts matter to me as when I was a child, our mom made quilts to keep us warm, and when it wore out, she used it to sandwich between newer fabric. I am lucky enough to have one that no one but me would consider it a quilt but mom made it. I am fortunate today to be able to buy beautiful fabric and make quilts for my family that hopefully will become an heirloom for them but most of all to know the love that went into making it just for them.

Quilts matter to me...they are my sanity...they are my heritage...they are a way I can show love and give comfort to others....
Quilts matter because they are stitched with love. Quilting has led me to many wonderful friends. One of my greatest joys is teaching my granddaughter to sew. I would be so incredibly happy to be the very lucky winner. Thank you!

Quilts matter to me because they are a connection to women past, present and future that I would never have met otherwise. Making them brings me joy and keeps me sane. Viewing quilts made by others causes me to be amazed in admiring the creativity. Four years ago my husband had a motorcycle accident and ended up in ICU with a traumatic brain injury. It changed our life completely. I chose to give up a high stress job that I loved because I needed to be closer to home as we made the adjustments to our new reality. It made me reevaluate what was important and I now have a much less stressful job that I love with a more flexible schedule. Because of that I have more time to quilt, I feel less guilt when I spend my entire day off quilting and I've met the most amazing group of women who love, care and support each other!!! That's why quilts and quilting are important to me.
My local PBS station hasn't aired the series, so it would be great to win the DVD set. I'm a first-generation quilter and would love to learn more.

Quilts matter to me because they connect me to: my grandmother who is watching over me, to family members that are warmed by them, to other quilters who inspire me, and to the Creator who we are all an expression of. Thanks for a great question!
Making quilts is my way of giving something I have put my heart into so it's like giving a part of me to my friends and family. I love giving quilts because I love to see their reaction. I like seeing the creativity of other quilters.
I haven't seen "Why Quilts Matter" so I would love to win these DVD's.

I have heard of the series, but so far I have not had a chance to watch it. Quilts matter for so many reasons as we all know! They matter to me personally because it is a way to create to stay positive and upbeat and to share my love with my family and charitable organizations. Each day of my life is enriched greatly by quilting in all it forms. From the amazing friends I have met to all the things I have learned. Thanks for the great giveaway!

Quilts are the physical evidence of the love someone has for another. Also, the expression of themselves through working with the fabric. It is totally art in itself from beginning to end no matter what it's made from. Quilts will always matter! hrglover@hotmail.com
God is the great Creator, He put in the heart of man and woman to also want to create. When I make a quilt choosing the pattern, fabric and colours fascinates me for days and I feel very energized and passionate! It makes getting the dishes washed so much easier!

Thanks I've never put it into words before.
What a fabulous giveaway! For me it would be a way of learning about a other culture through a craft I love, and strive to practise every day
Bonnie, Thanks for this opportunity. Quilts matter to me because of the links they provide with the past and future, with agriculture (cotton fibers) and industry (machines), and with creativity and utility. So many levels of connectivity among quilters across the world must be an element in our quest for world peace.
Quilts are my legacy to my family. When they see and use them they will remember the love that went into them when I made them.
Learned a lot from the episodes I saw on my local PBS station. If I win this I can catch up on the ones I missed. -- soparkaveataoldotcom
I thought I was a first generation quilter until my mother gave me a quilt that my great-grandmother made. My mom almost threw it away because of it's condition. I've since repaired it and labeled it. It matters to me! It's my most prized possession.
Quilts matter because I am leaving a legacy. Someone will be able to know, many years from now, that I loved them very much.

I think quilts matter for many reasons. 1. To keep you warm. 2. To show someone you cared enough to make them something special 3. A way to let your creative juices flow.

Quilts matter to me because they make me feel connected to my forebearers as well as to my descendents. I have many quilt parts inherited from my great aunt and am slowly making them into quilts for my children and grandchildren. I hope to be able to quilt for many years to come and create beautiful usable quilts for all my loved ones and many others. Thank you Bonnie for all you give to us!
Quilts matter to me because I absolutely love putting them together, it gives me great peace of mind to sit down at my sewing machine and create something. I also enjoy immensely the heartfelt responses I get when I give someone a quilt.

Quilts are my salvation. They let me be creative; they don't talk back; they don't complain it you don't get them completed but when you do complete them they give someone great happiness.

I think quilts matter because to can get history, feelings and the creativity in all the quilts and so much more!

I leave a piece of heart with every quilt, a memory for love ones, comfort and warmth . What more could you ask for.
Quilting was my Chemo therapy the three times I had to go through treatments. Quilting gave me something to do with my hands when I was cooped up in the house unable to go anywhere. It was the best and most enjoyable therapy a person could ask for. I love sitting down and letting the fabric tell me what it's suppose to be. Most of the time I have no idea what the finished quilt will be, but, for me, that's what it's all about.
There are so many reasons why quilts matter to me that it is hard to be concise in a response. I will narrow it down to one: it fills a creative and practical need in me to create.
Oh my, thanks for the giveaway, Bonnie. Quilts are my secret identity . I have a big, stressful professional career, where I have to make big, hairy decisions. Then I come home and sew up four-patches - and regain my sanity! So wonderfully creative... keeps me sane.
It's hard to narrow down to just one reason why quilts matter to me, but I will go with it fills a passionate and practical need for me to create.
OH Bonnie, I would love to win this. Quilts have been a huge part of my life for over fifty years. I guess I could say they are my heartsong.
Oh, my,how quilts matter!!! The quilts I make are "useable" quilts. The kind kids drag to the couch to cuddle and read Dr. SEUSS, the kind babies spit up on, the kind a teen can wipe a tear with after her best friend steals a boyfriend...the kind that gets better with each washing, the kind that are claimed before the binding goes on, the kind you'll never wash again because they still smell like my daughter a year after she went to heaven. Quilts are life. Good, bad, beautiful, precious, and imperfect.

It's simple. Quilts matter because they're history. Thanks, Bonnie!
quilting brings so much joy and creativity to my life. I am so blessed that my family loves my quilts.
Quilts Matter because of the Love that goes into them.
Quilts matter as a creative outlet, and also as a way to give a gift of myself and my love.
Quilts are important as they provide a very tangible connection of the past, present, and future. It's a tangible way to convey what words sometimes can't. It's a way to reach out to those you've never met, and may never meet. It's a way of feeling peace within myself as I create for others and it's a source of joy. I would love to watch the DVD's. Thank you for the opportunity.

The quilts I make will be my legacy.
Quilts connect generations. Fabrics worn by family members can become a fantastic memoir. Techniques passed from generation to generation... it's endless. Quilts matter. Always have, always will. It's as essential as baking!
I love to make quilt and sleep under a quilt. It is also great art for a wall. Would love to win this giveaway.
I would love to see the series. To me, quilts are a beautiful connection to history. The history of family, friends, town and country.
Quilts have stitched America together with love.
"Quilts matter because they link our past with our future. When my Dad was born in 1921, his Mom stenciled Animals in his baby room just above his bed. She would point to them and say what they were. My Dad learned them. When he was 3 or 4 His Mom made a quilt with the same stencils. My Dad learned to sew big stiches around the animals. Cival War blue shirting and white prints. When Dad's Mom passed away no one wanted the old stinky quilts. My Mom and Dad took them to use as packing around the items my Dad did get. There was the Blue and White. My Dad remembered working on that quilt. One year on vacation he took us to the house where the room with the stencils were. To this day the stencils have been preserved. This is WHY QUILTS MATTER! they have a story to tell and a story to pass on." shedeneal@charter.net
Quilts matter to me as it is my connection to my grandmother who hand pieced and hand quilted. I have a few of the quilts she made in her later years. They are so very precious. Each hand stitch created with love for me and my children.
Quilts also connect me to my grandmother in law and her mother. We are blessed to have 2 quilts from them.
Quilts encourage us to tell our children about the people who made them. The lives they lived. The love they are passing down.
I'm privileged to be able to learn quilting and teach my daughter to sew and quilt. It connects us through so many generations of love.
Quilts matter not only for their practical uses and their beauty but also the stories they tell us. Their patterns, colors and designs tell us about the makers and those that use them. Sometimes just imagining the people that made and used them is as much fun as making them
Quilts matter to me because Ican't imagine not relaxing by sewing on one!!

Quilts matter for many reasons. Making a quilt was the only way many women could express their artistic talent in days when all they were expected to do was be a mother and housewife. Today we discover our own talents, and make something which blesses our families, and gives us joy. Helen
You definitely know quilts matter when you hand your 13 year old Grandson his finished quilt and his eyes light up. Or when your 4 or 9 year old Granddaughters come over and wants to work on their quilts. The looks in their eyes when they learn catch on the what the process is, is the best.

Quilts are a way to connect to the past in a very personal way, and leave a personal touch for the future. For me, they helped through many a stressful time when nothing else was a comfort- fabric is very comforting in an artful, tactile way.
Thanks for the giveaway.
Oh Bonnie! How did I miss this? How wonderful of you to introduce this to us who have been hiding under some rock and then to have a giveaway on top of it! I would certainly love this and not let it gather any dust!
Quilts and quilting are helping me keep my sanity. I spent too many years as a workaholic with a maniac for a boss. Just spending time with the amazing women in my quilt guild, and seeing their artistry, as well as sharing in their friendship and compassion, has been the most healing experience. I am forever grateful to quilting for being the common bond that has pulled us together.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to win this.
Quilts are a wonderful historical record of major events in our country's history and in family histories. Plus I love making them, giving them away and receiving them.
Quilts matter... because women matter. Women have been stitching threads together for ages... caring for family and friends. In the past, they were our voice when we didn't have one. They are my personal therapy. When life is crazy, a few minutes of stitching calms my nerves and gives me energy to keep on going.

I would love to win this series....have wanted to see it for a long time now. Quilting is my connection with both of my Grandmothers. One quilted to keep busy and the other quilted for the love of sewing. Each had a different style. Each had a different outcome. But all the quilts they made, brought love and memories to our family. Thank you for this opportunity. Kind Regards

I became aware of this series when it was shown on our local PBS station. Fascinating! I didn't see the whole series. It has been on my wish list for some time.
