Over the past several months I have enjoyed email conversation with one of my own most cherished "Quilting Rock Stars”, Judy Martin!
Can you imagine my shock and quilter’s heart flutters when I received a friendly conversational email from Judy introducing herself to me (As if I didn’t know who she was!) and telling me how much she enjoyed MY quilts.
Holy cow, Judy’s book “Scrap Quilts” published in 1985 was one of the first books on my shelves. I was 23 when I bought it. I still have it --pages worn and dog-eared and oh, so cherished.
Her quilts whet my appetite from the very beginning, and here she was introducing herself to me in such a friendly way via email, just to say hello.
She drew the parallels between us in the following ways:
we both love scrap quilts
we both own sizable stashes
we both write quilt pattern books
we both design original quilts in the traditional style
we are not afraid of quilts with a gazillion pieces
we both started making quilts as teenagers
we have both written for Quiltmaker
And little did she know that one little email made my day, my week, my month, my year ---yes, Judy Martin is still MY Rock Star!
So when her hubby Steve contacted me to ask if I’d like to offer one of Judy’s new books, Extraordinary Log Cabin Quilts as a GIVE-AWAY to one of my readers ---my reply was an astounding, AUTOMATIC YES!
I wouldn't be where I am without the lessons I learned and the inspiration I received through Judy Martin’s books.

I am really into scrappy because at my age, I love color and the happiness it gives me. I have been quilting for several years, but I still want (need) definite and precise directions. Sounds as though Judy provides just that.
Thank you, Bonnie, for another give-away! I too LOVE Judy Martin, I have one of her earlier log cabin books and I would LOVE to add another one to my quilt book library. Enjoy your time in Germany! Cheri cuffmail@aol.com

Wow, another Judy Martin famous hits. These are just so creative. Love, Love. Kathy in NJ. kohara555@optimum.net.
Log cabin quilts! If I could ONLY make one quilt block for the rest of my life - it would be LOG CABIN hands down!!!! Judy Martin - well she is the queen and she ROCKS. Her stuff is to die for!!!!!
I'd love to be a winner of this book! The Paducah Log Cabin is one of my favorites, I love the scrolling whites that look just like lattice. This would be my first Judy Martin book and thank you for highlighting her work. Hope you all are having a terrific time and am so glad you are able to keep up with everything else (CS)!
Of course I love her books! I own most of them and have made quite a few of them. Two recent wedding quilts used her patterns - Tennessee Waltz for a Tennessee nephew and Circle of Life for a niece and Colorado Wedding for another niece. Oops that's three and that's only in the last few years. I leave the centers blank so I can add a trapuntoed feathered heart with their new initials (trapunto also).

I love Judy Martin books also. My son is stationed in Northern Germany for another 2 year's. I haven't seen my 4 grands in a year. Your posts just make my heart ache even more. However I am planning a trip to see them in the coming 3 month's. He has his own personal Quilt of Valor complete with badges he exchanged with airmen of other nations, pictures of his descendants and just about anything else I found except the kitchen sink in it. Thanks for the contest.
I am finishing Judy's Shakespeare in the Park. I would love to win this book and try her new log cabin patterns
I love Judy Martin's designs and log cabins are my very favorite quilts. Thanks to you and Judy for offering the chance to win this book. elliequilts@hotmail.com
Like you I am a huge Judy Martin fan and I'd love this book...already in love with one of the ones you showed. Scrappy quilts are best in my opinion & Log Cabins are at the top too! Thanks to you both for the opportunity.
It's really hard to pick a favorite as they are all so awesome! But I love the Shenandoah log cabin design.
I have been quilting for 20 years and I don't know how but I have never seen this book before!!! These look amazing I can't wait to try one of these patterns!
Winding ways as a log cabin? How cool is that!
Beautiful log cabins!
Judy was one of my first Guiding Lights too. Thank you for the chance to win her book.

Log Cabin was the first quilt I made and I wish I know then what I know now - That quilt hung in my living room for quite a while and when we repainted I miraculously gifted it - it was about 6 inches long on one side - to Goodwill - figured it could at least keep someone warm - thankfully it was before I put labels on my quilts. But now that I have migrated into more intricate piecing and have been 'Bonnified' - if you don't mind - I would love to revisit these quilts from a new perspective. Pick me - although - if not I will probably buy it - when I can see the light of day
Very new to quilting ( 6 months ). I looked at her site and on Pinterest. Beautiful quilts. I think that another way that you and Judy are alike is that both right and left side of your brains work together to design the patterns and then choose the colors for all these amazing works of art. One way or another I will have her books, this one I hope to win.

I've always wondered how close you have to be in the "prove you're a real person" not a robo thing. Sometimes they're almost impossible to figure out. I've clicked for a new one and it's just as tough.
I have all of her books, love those scrap quilt designs. Was lucky enough to get 2 of her quilts when she was auctioning some. Haven't ordered her new book yet, but plan too!
You know it's not fair or possible to choose a Judy Martin quilt pattern that I like best. While I have a couple of her books I have not yet made any of the quilts. I have however quilted many of her patterns, but then I have to let them go home. That's what has made me purchase her books, seeing quilts that have been made from them. You and her both rock with your books and patterns. No doubt about that.
Judy Martin is a rock star like you Bonnie. I know she is retired the Martingale Pub. formerly That Patchwork Place. I always hit the tour when I visit DS in Seattle. Love that scratch and dent store of their books at the end of the tour. She has written so many wonderful quilt books it's difficult to pick only one, but currently my favorite is Time Crunch Quilts by Judy Martin. It's a keeper for sure. Hope I win.
Thank you. I am just learning and Judy Martin looks like a great teacher, like you. Even if my name isn't drawn I will get the book. Off to see her web site.
It is hard to choose a favorite when they are all so lovely.
While in the middle of a mystery looking at other gorgeous quilts is not a good plan too many pieces yet to be made to even think about doing one of these gorgeous Judy Martin quilts! But who says one has to be logical about it all! Wonderful!!!!
Beautiful Quilts. I would love to make one.
Making rounded shapes with rectangles keeps impressing me! I fell in love with the Mariposa Quilt.
I have never made a log cabin and would love to give it a try! Thanks for the chance to win this extraordinary book!
OHHHHH! I would LOVE to have this book! I LOVE Log Cabins, and these are just BEAUTIFUL!!! Please pick me!!!
Oh, the new Judy Martin book is wonderful, thanks for the inside look. So hard to name just one, but Snake River is one of the firsts for me. A new follower of your blog so I am unsure how all this works. Thanks for the chance to win. mnels72012@gmail.com
Great show of her quilts! And so interesting to hear that her book was one of your original quilting inspirations. Would love to add this new one to my sewing room - especially since she wanted to share with your "fans"!!
I would love to win her book. Love her scrap quilts.
Shakespeare in the Park is one of my favorite quilts, although it's hard to choose among so many of her delightful quilts. This new book of exceptional log cabin designs would be a top shelf book in my room! Thanks for the chance to win it- if not, Christmas is right around the corner. Thanks.
Love log cabin blocks
Love the preview of the quilts in this book and Thank you and her for the offer. And I do think I would try a few of them. My goal is to do 2 scrap and one applique quilt a year. I am in Awe of the designers. Thank you for all the hard work you do and sharing your talents with us.
Just love all my Judy Martin books - all of them great inspiration on how to use my LARGE scrap stash! Would love to add this newest title to my collection!
I would like to have this book just to know how she made such beautiful patterns from the simple log cabin. It looks fascinating and beautiful! Regina
I also have Judy Martin's "Scrap Quilts". When I started quilting this was the book I went to. Log Cabin quilts have always been my favorite patterns. Thank you for this opportunity. email - ccamp0304@gmail.com
I love Judy Martin and her fabulous patterns. Can't choose just one of her books that is my favorite. But, the pattern "Monet's Wedding Ring" is my new go to pattern when making wedding quilts. Love that pattern! I would love to win this book...please please pick me. email: lisa0116@yahoo.com
Thank you for a chance to win. These are beautiful quilts. Never knew you could do so much with log cabins.
I have been a fan of Judy Martin for absolutely ages. This is one of her books that I do not have. Would love to start on one of her inventive log cabin quilts!
Judy Martin is a wonderful writer for quilting books. I have several of her books and her computer program on star quilts. Was so excited to meet her in a quilt shop in Gridley, Iowa on one of our cross country trips. Love to read her newsletter on the happenings in her family.
I have been making quilts for about a "brazillion" years and a Log Cabin quilt is about the only pattern I've never done!! These quilts look amazing! I have one of Judy's books that I've had for more years than I care to say...but, it is still a "go to " for me. I lent it to a follower quilter & never got it back so I had to search for a used copy online as it has been that long ago! Would love to own this book....thanks for the chance to win! By the way, from your posts, Germany looks lovely!
Oh, I would love to win this book. The quilts in it are amazing. Thanks for offering the giveaway.
Absolutely a fan of Judy Martin's work - would love to explore these new designs!
nesmithmmb3@yahoo.com
Love Log Cabin quilts... Love Judy Martin... can't pick a favorite because I use them all... Log Cabin was the first quilt I made and I'm still amazed by all the quilts you can make from it.
There are just way too many favorites, but I am leaning toward Paducah Log Cabin. At least for this moment. If you asked me tomorrow, I probably would have a new favorite. They are all wonderful.
Wow, those are fantastic quilts! I started quilting as a teenager as well, taking my first class at 18, in the days before rotary cutters, but I'm more of a "scraplifter" than a designer! Love all you do - terri-fisher (at) shaw (dot) ca
The book of quilts is stunning. I am a longtime fan of Judy Martin's work. Thanks for the opportunity to see and win this book.
After reading the other comments- I just have to ditto most of what's been said. Log Cabin is and was my fav of the traditional patterns. Thanks for the give away. rjc2cam@gmail.com
Incredible how many people have commented so far....& it's only Sat.
I'm with Steve on my favorite quilt(s)....has to be EITHER Pioneer or Aspen Log Cabin. GORGEOUS quilts! It would be like choosing your favorite child, & I just won't go there!

A log cabin quilt is on my bucket list and this looks like a great resource!
I love Judy's books, I participated in all of her voting surveys for her latest log cabins book and enjoyed doing it. Would love to win ... I also want to thank you for taking the time to include those of us who are not able to travel with you personally with all your great pictures. It is such fun seeing your travels.
These quilts are so beautiful! I'm not familiar with Judy Martin and haven't ever done a log cabin quilt. But patterns that I've seen for log cabins (before these) have never been very appealing. Or else they looked too complicated. But these? I'd love to make these quilts!
These quilts are amazing! I love the Mariposa Log Cabin and it has been added to my someday list. I have many of Judy Martin's books and look forward to adding this one to my collection. Thank you for the chance to win it but I will buy it if I have to...lol! Hope you are enjoying Germany! Just in case my email doesn't show: quiltingkoala(at)ymail(dot)com
The quilts are gorgeous in this book...wish I had it in my collection. Maybe I will win this one. Must be very time consuming to make a quilt like this but totally worth it to see the finished product. my email: pinkllady52@hotmail.com
My fiance loves the buckeye pattern and I would love to give this book to him. He is retired and looking for something to do in his newly found free time. He used to sew clothing for a square dance group he belonged to. And his mother was an incredible quilter from way back. This would bring him closer to his mom (now departed) and challenge his engineering skills! Thank you Judy Martin for this opportunity!
Lovely quilts. Shakespeare in the Park is still one of my all time favorite quilts and one I aspire to make. Aren't any of either of your patterns that I don't like.
Judy Martin was new to me before this post, but I'm inspired by what you've shared and would love to win! Becky Hall
Incredible designs, inspirational to say the least... thanks for the opportunity to win a copy!
I know that Judy Martin has written some super books of which a own several but haven't gotten this Log Cabin book therefore I would love to be the recipient of one. Thanks for writing such super patterns! Marilyn bsholtis@sc.rr.com
Wow! Bonnie Hunter and Judy Martin - my all-time favorite quilting rock stars! I'd love to have Judy's book. I have all the rest of hers, as well as all of Bonnie's! If I don't win it, clearly I'll have to buy it!
I always wanted to do a log cabin, but the obvious has been ho-hum to me, so I never started one. Never knew you could do so much with the block. I want a copy of her book! Thank you, Judi Martin, for opening my eyes.
Oh my word!!! These quilts are beyond. any description I can think of. I would love, love, love. to win this book. The only problem I would have is deciding which one to make first. And if I don't win, it will be at the top of my Christmas. list so hubby and the kids will know exactly what I want to find under the tree!
I would love to win Judy's book. Thank you for the chance.

I don't know that I can pick a favorite since I love all log cabin quilts, but the Buckeye Log Cabin would be the best of all possible combinations for my guild's upcoming challenge of circles. Add scrappy log cabin to the party and I'm in heaven!
Judy is an inspiration and her quilts are beautiful. Would love to win the book.

You bet'cha, I'd love to win a copy of Judy's latest book. My fave quilt is the Door County Quilt. It looks like an ice-cycle crust on top of a multi-colored sheet. What a gal to take a plain Jane block like log cabin and make it so dazzeling!
Wow! Love Judy Martin! And I'm going to have to try Paducah Log Cabin some time before I die!!! Thanks for the chance to win.
katydidart60@yahoo.com

Love Judy Martin! Hope you're having a great time in Germany!
It would be so nice to have Judi's book thanks Bonnie for the chance to win it.
I would like to win this book thanks
Several of us in the my little quilt group made a quilt from Knockout Blocks and Sampler Quilts. I can't remember the name of the quilt right now and my book is somehow mixed up in my stash... It had stars and snail's trails. I made it in red and white and love the quilt! It was fun to see the variety of quilts using the different colors. I also used that book to make stars for the edges of a Santa and Polar Bear quilt that I made. I called it Northern Reflection and would love to share a picture of it with Judy Martin. The idea of winning a new book from her collection is exciting!
I have Judy Martin's Log Cabin Quilt Book & every quilt in it is phenomenal! It's difficult to choose a favorite, but if I had to, I would choose the Kentucky Log Cabin. Love those little log cabins within the design. Or should we call them little quilt villas, Bonnie? :o) Looking forward to the publication of Judy's new book. Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy!
I would love to gain more help as a new quilter.
Judy Martin is one of my favorite authors. I have a bag full of goodies to make her 'Tennessee Waltz' out of the first quilt book I bought, "Scrap Quilts" circa 1985. Her shadowing with the blocks in the "Scraps" (2006) gave me a great idea that I drew up and am collecting fabrics to implement. Thank you for the opportunity.
My comment didn't register....so here goes again.
I have a number of Judy Martins' books...love them all.
Sounds like you're having a great time in Germany.

Love Judy Martin's books! You are right, she is inspirational and a Quilting Rock Star!
Would love this one. My goal next year is to make a quilt from my scrap box and this would be perfect inspiration.

I have been receiving Judy Martin's newsletter for some time now. I always enjoy reading it and hearing about her latest work and family. I love her sense of humor. A couple of my favorite quilts of hers are Virginia Pin Wheel and Heart and Home.
YES! YES! YES!!! Please add my entry to win her book! She is my quilting idol, and I owe almost everything I know about quilting to her, and the rest of what I know about quilting to you. I own her first log cabin book from the '80s as well. My favourite pattern of hers was probably Shakespeare in the Park. I made my own version of it three years ago for my son's wedding, and it took first place in its category at the Calgary Stampede. There's a picture of it posted on Judy's website. LOVE HER! The queen of log cabins and stars.
The quilts are all beautiful. Being from Minnesota I LOVE the Minnesota Log Cabin but I also love the Paducah Log Cabin as the white lattice reminds me of Celtic artwork. Thanks for sharing this book and for the opportunity to enter.
I promised myself no more books, but I think I just broke that promise. That is a "Must Have" book.
Wow, these are all fantastic but I love the door county log cabin the most.
suejean64@q.com
Bonnie Hunter is MY Judy Martin...I started quilting 5 years ago when I was 25 and Bonnie has really taught me A LOT about art and creativity :)
Just in a quick count, I found 5 Judy Martin books on my bookshelf. I've learned so much from her on rotary cutting and still use her books often as a reference. Would love to win her new book.
How great to hear from your hero! I love log cabin quilts, but have yet to make one. I'm getting my stash organized a-la Bonnie and look forward to starting one soon. I love her Paducha log cabin

I would LOVE to win a book from Judy Martin. Thanks for the drawing for the book.
How exciting! I'm probably in the minority here, but I never really liked log cabins until I saw Judy's last log cabin book -- I think it's just titled Log Cabin Quilt Book. That one was so great, that I'll need to get this one too!!
Oh mercy - she is a genius as well!! Would LOVE that book!
I LOVE Judy Martin. Having the two of you in one blogpost is almost too much. My fave book of hers is Shining Star Quilts - I've had that one for so many years, and I see something new every time I open it. Santa is bringing me this new book, but I want to donate a copy to my guild, so if I'm lucky, that's where this one will go!
I, like everyone else, would just love to have Judy's new book. She is my rock too. I have enjoyed her in lecture and own several of her books. I have a Christmas log cabin of hers in the works right now. Thanks for this offer.
I love Judy Martin and would love to make an extraordinary log cabin quilt! Thanks for the chance!

Ah ça! I have 3 Judy Martin books and ADORE them all! I learn so much just by leafing through and reading---colour work, and placement, and how changes alter the completed quilt. If you force me to choose one I love above others, it would be 'Aegean Sea'. So unusual.
Thank you for the opportunity to win. :3 Hazle

After borrowing Scrap Quilts from my local library 5 times, I realised I really needed my own copy of the book. I still refer to it 20 years later. Judy Martin makes awesome quilts.
