This was my view for most of the day today.

I’m still driven to get this done ASAP for Mark ---and I chose a simple quilting pattern, a panto called Check and Chase by Hermione Agee of Lorien Quilting, Australia.
I wanted something kind of curvy and free flowing to go with such straight, jagged piecing. Something still spiky and pokey, but with some swirl to it.
This fit the bill just fine!
I used the thinnest cotton batting I have on hand, being as the quilt is being shipped to Arizona. I ended up using Hobbs heirloom without scrim.

My trees still have some leaves, but they are falling quickly!
Next up is adding a label into the corner, and getting the binding sewn on.
I do plan to hand stitch this binding. I know several said to just sew it down by machine, but every hand stitch is a thought, a wish, and a prayer – I can’t skimp on those. Besides, it will be nice to sit tonight and work on a binding with my feet up. That’s about as relaxed as I get around here.

Wow, you are cruisin'! Perfect all around, Bonnie. I applaud you! It looks so nice draped over your rail with the trees as a backdrop, but it will look just as good in Arizona!

Fantastic! The quilt looks glorious on your veranda railing mimicking the colors of the trees and sky. I agree totally about hand sewing the binding. Beside the meditative nature of the task, I have yet to see one sewn by machine - even if neatly and carefully done - that is near the match for a hand sewn binding.
It is beautiful! I know he will enjoy it. Chem rooms tend to be on the cool side from my experience so soft and cuddly will be wonderful even in Arizona. I needed that in south central Texas. I love that pattern. The stitches in the binding being hugs and prayers is a very important part of comfort quilts both for the maker and recipient. Hugs for you heart and prayers for you both

Bonnie, what an amazing job you've done with this quilt! i love the quilting as much as i love the fabrics and quilting pattern chosen. I'm applauding your efforts to finish with a hand sewn binding. i do all my quilts that way because it adds something of me to each quilt that comes under my hands. I like to think that my prayers and blessings go on and on to whomever receives and sleeps under my quilts for as long as they are used.

Bonnie you ALWAYS teach me something... today it is cut before sewing on the binding... I was taught to sew on the binding to the front... cut... then hand sew to the back... I always have to resew areas ... by cutting first makes for more accurate seams :) Thanks! More prayers to your brother as well! Kathi

Just beautiful. A group of girls (old girls class of '78) :) made a quilt for a friend who is battling cancer. We prayed over it and gave it to her for comfort as she receives treatments. Sending a prayer your brother's way. We also made two additional quilts that are currently traveling the country a "Lady's" and a "Men's" quilt being sent from class member to class member with journals. We hope at a future class reunion the quilts will appear. So far they have been from NJ to CA and many states in between. The quilts even have their own Facebook page where people post pictures of their time with the quilts. It has been a great project.
Relish the time you are relaxing sewing on the binding...you have had a very stressful several days. Know that your quilt will be on the way to your brother and you will have given him a special gift that no one else can do like you.

Truly beautiful! With that thinner batting it will drape nicely and feel like an old friend from the get-go. Mark will love it and it will be just what he needs to snuggle under for a nap or just relaxing. Hand stitching the binding will be just what you need this evening and each stitch will indeed be a prayer and energy sent his way.

Beautiful, perfect quilt. I agree with you...sewing the binding on hand gives you time to sit, enjoy the quilt, reflect and pray for the person receiving it. It's my favorite part of the quilt making process.
I am using this pattern for a small quilt for a recent widow, using the sleeves from her hubby's western shirts, as well as teddy bears for her girls and all her grands. I have 14 bears to make before Christmas and I want the quilt done by then too. I thought a quilt from the sleeves would let her continue to feel her loves arms around her for a long time. I am using her favorite color, lavender and purple, for the background, but sleeves from all 12 3X shirts!! Praying for your brother and all of your family. God Bless.

I'm new to this neighborhood, but having visited Arizona in November and December, you can definitely get icicles on the pumpkins if you live in the right places. I bought a sweater at Thanksgiving in Phoenix on my honeymoon, and Flagstaff is the snowiest place in the country! I heard of Type A personalities, but I think you must be an AAA!

The quilt for your brother is perfect! The backing really goes with the top and the quilting is definitely what the top was destined for. Yes, I agree that you should stitch the binding by hand since each stitch is a thought, a wish, and a prayer. I always told my sons that when I quilted their quilts, each stitch was a kiss and a hug. Those quilts speak of our love for the ones they are made for. Prayers for your brother and the entire family.
I did this recently in aquas, turquoises, and tropical colors for a comfort quilt for a friend with cancer. It does go together quickly!
