Give-Away! An Elm Creek Quilts Companion!

Oh, how many of us love the Elm Creek Quilts series by New York Times bestselling author, Jennifer Chiaverini!

I remember an evening a bit over a year ago when teaching for Quiltmaker Magazine at their Block Party in Williamsburg, VA, how star struck I was to be speaking at the same function as Jennifer!  I have loved her books from the very first one!

I was contacted a bit over a week ago by the publicity department at Plume/Penguin books asking if I’d like to review a copy myself – and offer up a give-away to blog readers –how could I say no?!  YES, of course YES!

The book is due out in November and will be found in book stores near you then – but we have an EARLY copy!

About the book:

My gracious friends, Ann and BJ, loaned me their copies of Jennifer's books and in the space of a couple months I read all of them. I loved all of them as they are all important to the saga. My favorite, even though she wasn't in many of the books, was Gerda. Sylvia was an incredible role model for so many and did so much to promote quilting... how could one not love her? I have thoroughly enjoyed the Elm Creeks books that I have read. It is fun to read a good novel that shares my hobby. It is hard to pick a favorite title or character because the author brings in a good variety of stories and people.

Love "The quilters apprentice" for that was the first one to read for me. But before that I made some blocks from the internet patterns of Sylvia 's Bridal Sampler. So yes, I am a fan!!!!(from the Netherlands) Kind regards and thanks for this give away (connysquilt@live.nl)

I have read Jennifer's books as each one came out. I have enjoyed the variety of stories and the trips back and forth through history. My favorite, I think, was the Aloha Quilt because it was a great story of friendship (and quilting). I would love to be able to review the stories and see the quilts in the new book. I am #201, so I figure the chances are slim, but I truly enjoy your blogs and look forward to them daily.

I love Sylvia because she is so feisty. As uptight as she can be sometimes, I wish I was able to quilt with her.

Love these books! I started them out of order, so I really need to go back and read them in order. My favorite was The Runaway Quilt. The history she puts in each book is so amazing! I love learning about different time periods and these are great.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Elm Creek series and have read and read several from the series. The Quilter's Apprentice is still my favorite as I think of two different age women adjusting to the changes in their lives and beginning to trust one another. Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker is a treasure of researched information forming a remarkable story.

What a wonderful prize. I do not have a favorite. I am pretty new to quilting. Look forward to learning more.

I was very moved by The Lost Quilter... Joanna's story of freedom and capture which forced her to leave her son behind at Elm Creek. I have read them all up to and including Sonoma Rose and will read the newest ones this winter when the nights are long and when I'm not stitching!

I love the elm creek series-I have read all the books except for the last couple-I need to get to the library to get those and catch up-my favorite character is Sylvia and I loved the Underground Railroad-this book sounds awesome with the family tree-thanks for the chance to win Kathy

I love all the books. I don't remember the character, but the civil war woman that left her baby to be raised by another woman. The love she had for her child, and not wanting him to be raised as a slave breaks my heart every time I think of it. debhartwig@yahoo.com

I've never read her books, but have a couple of the quilt books.

I *love* the series! I've read about 3 of them. The one I remember most was the one about the Civil War Quilts. It had a lot of background on the meaning of the quilts. I just can't remember the exact title.

Ptquilter said...

I just finished reading "The Wedding Quilt" and am hoping to get the next one in the series soon. If I had to choose a favorite character I'd have to go with Sylvia, the Master Quilter! This book looks like a keeper! I'd love to win. Thanks Bonnie!

Sorry to say I haven't read any of them but the back of the book looks absolutely awesome.

Hi and thanks for the give-away! My favorite Elm Creek book would be "The Quilter's Apprentice" but I have only read a few of the series.

Have read them all. Sylvia favorite character. I thought Sonoma Rose was especially good.

Love the Elm Creek series, especially The Aloha Quilt. How can you go wrong with quilting and Hawaii?!? I've had the good fortune of hearing Jennifer speak several times. What a delightful and engaging lady.

I Love the Elm Creek Quilts book, I have read them all several times. They were my constant companion when I was ill, and could not quilt. My favorite book is the "Aloha Quilt". I think the theme of having to start over after a long, slowly dying marriage and then finding your husband has turned into a monster is a compelling one too many women have faced. Also the Lost Quilter was amazing, such history I never knew happened! I could probably tell you something about each book! I did learn how to make maple sugar from the Sugar House Quilt"

Haven't read any of the books but I have met Jennifer when she first started! She had the booth across from the booth I was working in. I remember her being in awe of all the quilts since she didn't quilt at all.

I just love this series! I think my favorite character is Sylvia - it just wouldn't be Elm Creek without her! But there are many strong women characters in these books to be admired. Thanks for the chance to win.

I've enjoyed reading many of these books and if I had to pick a favorite it would be hard. I really liked A Quilter's Legacy and the two books set in California (Sonoma Rose and its prequel). Thanks for the drawing.

I'm only a few books in and the companion would help a lot as I first started reading these almost a decade ago! Perhaps I should simply start over. ;)

I've read most, if not all, of the Elm Creek books - can't really name a favorite character. Jennifer is quite a talent.

Deborah said...

I have not read any of her books yet, but keep hearing how very good they are. I think that I will start. I will have to check and see which was her first one, as I like to start at the beginning to watch a writer's growth in writing and character development. Just in case (poladydwd@yahoo.com) is home email.

I absolutely adore the series, and am especiallyfond of Sylvia, who seems a bit harsh and rude in the beginning, but by and by softens and become a favourite.

I love Sarah and really admire Summer and Gwen.

I'm a little behind in the series. The last one I read was about the New Year's quilt. The stories certainly do make you want to be part of the group.

Sylvia is my favorite character! I had the opportunity to hear Jennifer speak at a local library several years ago. I really enjoyed how "real" she was, just one of us! Love her!

pkquilter said...

I've read them all and bought them all in hardcover because I just couldn't wait! I identify most with Sylvia. I live in western PA, near Waterford, PA, near Edinboro University (one of the PA state schools). I've introduced many to quilting through my teaching and sewing groups. Our family has a large historical house and farm that I dream of transforming into a quilting retreat. Love Jennifer's writing, research, and characters!
