We took a little break this afternoon, turning off the sewing machines and powering down the irons to take a little drive on the blue ridge parkway and finally ended up in Boone.
My plan was to have great photo opportunities for Mickey to take some amazing pictures and send them home – this works fine for the first rest area, but then the rain started to fall –
The clouds descended covering any view for any further photos we wished to take today.
When it rains – the Quilters go antiquing!
I am sad to report there were no sewing machines found this trip – not a single one!
A couple of ratty old quilts were found, but we mostly enjoyed the vintage glassware and all of the nifty vintage kitchen items.
We laughed hysterically at the taxidermy at one antique mall – no, I am not bringing home a stuffed moose head for my stone fireplace at the cabin!
We are winding our trip down with pumpkin pecan ice cream on King Street in downtown Boone – where the college students are returning one by one and setting up housekeeping before school starts in a couple weeks.
Boone is crazy-town as far as traffic goes – I can't wait to get out here and get back down to Buck Mountain.
Taco salads are on the menu for dinner, and there will be late-night sewing going on!
With love from the Blue Ridge –
Bonnie and Mickey

Beautiful scenery...and I'm not just talking the ice cream! I am heading down to Boone next month for Miatas in Boone - I hear the roads are amazing!
Need to call it the beautiful ridge, stunning vistas
The Daniel Boone Inn is my Favorite place to eat in Boone. And the antique mall in the middle of town the best one I've found in the area.
There is a great little grill in Boone called Galileo's. I think it is on the other end of King's st. Heading out of town. Great food and they use local grown food, so the menu changes daily.
Ohhhh,,,,,Love that Blue Bell...it's a Texas tradition!
As well as quilting with friends, of course.....
Looks like you two had a great time together!! Even in the rain!~!
Hi Bonnie, a few years ago we came to the USA for a holiday, mainly in NC. We hired an RV and drove from NY south to and down the Outer Banks to Wilmington and then across to the Blue Ridge Parkway, then back to NY. Along the way we dropped our son off in Boone as he was spending 6 months there on a college exchange. It was one the best holidays ever.
Regards from me in Sunny Britannia.
