Very dark brown –wood sided, which always needed treating --- painting, staining and sealing and bug protection, etc.
That is all changing!
It’s amazing how much these guys got done in just a day yesterday.
And it was HOT HOT HOT and humid here in the South East corner of the USA…I kept the pitchers of ice water flowing ---
I enjoy talking to the workers – this is a family business, a father and sons and they are doing excellent work. One of the sons has a 7 month old baby ---who would guess that such a rough and tough tattooed guy would sit there and show me a bunch of baby pictures on his phone, as proud as could be? I just love it when daddies go gaga over their babies :)
There are ladders and stuff everywhere..but I love the new khaki color!
These two windows are the front master bedroom and there will be shutters on either side.
The bottom level is my basement – it’s all brick so will be left as is, but the two upper levels will be dealt with today!
As well the side of the front porch.
Do you see how weathered it is? It’s a pain to keep wood in tip top shape away from rot and moss and all else.
But the part I’m loving most is the detail we are adding to the front porch area…
Vinyl shake shingles! I love the color and the texture!
Around the front door ---
The shutters will be this rust color. You can see that the old wood is underneath the door…this looks so much better!
Kind of dark, but I’m liking it. That porch railing is also going to be replaced.
Inside of the porch in progress ---These windows will have new shutters too.
Exciting things happening here. And under it all is more insulation that will wrap our house up tight and making it much more energy efficient!
I’m expecting the pounding to begin again within the hour ---

Looks GREAT ... love the colors! You will find it more "welcoming" than the dark color of the wood siding ... our current house has siding which I love ... easy peasy maintenance!!
Honestly, it reminded me of Cracker Barrel before the new siding. That is a good thing, but I love how you have lightened it up! It will feel so good every time you return home to your "new" house not to mention the effects of good insulation! Nice!!
The guys just arrived at 7:30 and re pounding has begun! DH calling with things to remind the contractors, long day ahead, lol!
looking good Bonnie and I know your house appreciates it's facelift :)
you had asked about colors for the next mystery quilt...must include orange! i NEVER looked at orange until i saw your "orange crush" and now i am hooked! i did my hawaiian in an orange batik, i am picking up orange FQs (and bigger) now with no real plans for them but i am drawn to them with the memory of orange crush imbedded in the gray matter...hey, orange and gray! could even be pale hues making it a "soft" quilt too...just ideas
Love the siding...almost the same as what we put on our house. Siding is simple and easy ...no maintenance. Well maybe a water hosing down every now and again!!The shakes are a nice addition too! Hope you can find something that will keep you busy so you don't mind the hammering noises!!
Looks amazing Bonnie -- makes the house look warmer and more inviting.
I have that same vinyl shake shingle in the same color around by front door and I love them. Same color siding also. One of the most time saving things we did so we don't have to paint. Makes for more quilting time. WhooHooo!!
Looking good Bonnie, so nice to get those outside jobs done. Enjoy your day, I hope things go well today.
Looks great Bonnie! The vinyl siding is way easier to take care of. DH spends only one weekend each summer with the powerwasher cleaning off whatever it is that stains homes around here because of the high humidity.. mold??? Low home maintenance makes him very happy as he prefers to work in the garden.
It looks beautiful. Great colors. We had a house wrap done too and it really helps insulate the house.
LOVE THE COLORS!! love your entire yard too! I think what you are having done is very fitting for that area..please post more pics, too--want to see it with shutters, railing, etc ;-) *~*CAROLE*~*
Your house is coming on a treat - so quickly! I've been lurking as a reader forever, time to say 'hello'! I'm Patrick, an Irish guy quilter who lives in London, England. Hope to continue reading about your fascinating journey in quilts and family.
A wonderful facelift, Bonnie!
How fun and exciting! It is going to look so much better.
Sort of like having a new house? LOL
Love that your lot looks so "park like" only in NC! The rust colored door is lovely with the siding and shingles too.
Yes, I love to see young men turn into Dads. I have 3 sons and seeing them become daddies and carry their daughters dolly or try to fix her hair is precious! One son even painted nail polish on my GD's fingernails (she's 4). Wait until your sons turn you into a grandma. I hope it will happen one of these days - all in good time, of course!
Love the house Colorado. My big burly 6' 8" son asked me to show him how to thread and operate an old Brother sewing machine so that he can sew Boy Scout patches on his sons ' uniforms. Of course I quickly complied! He does a pretty good job. We have some pretty interesting conversations about thread "thingies " and tensions.
Go big improvement! Think about light colored furniture on the porch. Should brighten it right up.
Bonnie the new siding looks great. Just watch out for the mud wasps as they love to nest behind the shutters! Enjoy your new home!
What a beautiful home you have amidst the gorgeous foliage. Your makeover is enhancing the beauty, and I particularly love the shaker style shingles you are putting on the front porch! What a lovely detail! Congrats!
I really like the new look of your home! We're pretty spoiled here in Las Vegas--no termites or wood rot. We usually have a stucco finish with Spanish tile roof on most of our houses. I'm really a desert rat! It's not for everyone, but I hate humidity and mosquitoes, so I'm a happy camper here! BTW, it will be 114 degrees here this Friday--oh, air conditioning, how I love you!!! It's really a trade-off, isn't it!
I remember when I brought my daughter home from the hospital, they were residing our house...but she slept through it all! I do like the new color, it lightens up the house.
It's really looking good! A nice improvement & no need for all that upkeep. Couldn't be better.
Very nice. We put vinyl on about 17 years ago and our house is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It's a gift that gives for years to come.
Looks wonderful!
It is looking wonderful!
Looks great, so clean and new. Is that Hardy Plank or some similar concrete siding? If so, you have also added some fire protection. I've used the Hardy plank (even installed it myself!) and I know its' durability.
The siding looks wonderful with the contrasting window frames, etc...and I love your door!!
is this your mountain house you were so excited about buying? Can't wait to see the finished product!
Looks great! You are really making it your own.
It's looking great! I had not seen the vinyl shingle siding before--what a nice touch!
