Watch out world! The Hunters are off to IKEA!
All the times that I have gone – and all the times that our son Jason has met up with me in Charlotte for browsing and shopping and idea planning, the Hubster has yet to step foot inside the wonder of IKEA.
There are some things that I need for the house – and some things I'd like to check out for the new cabin – namely tables for the sewing area! And some storage stuff.
And maybe more IKEA lights for friends when they come to sew :-)
It's a 70 mile drive – and I am working on the binding of one of the baby quilts in the car!
Hoping you are enjoying your weekend as well!

How come there is never an IKEA close to home? mine is about 70 miles also. I try to coordinate a trip with a dr that is "sort of" near there.
the closest to me is no where near - maybe 300 or 400 miles - I have never been to one.
I will never whine again that mine is only 55 miles away.
Have fun! I've never been to one either, though our is about 45 miles from home. I've been contemplating driving out for the light that you have, but that's as far as I got - still contemplating. I do not like driving through the city, so I guess that's what's holding me back. I hope you come home with lots of ideas for your cabin.
The Charlotte Ikea is about 3 hours drive. A quilty friend and I are planning a day trip to Ikea and Mary Jo's Fabric store this summer!
Drive safe and have fun ... nothing like a day at IKEA!!
Oh, I hope he likes IKEA as much as you do. That way, he can always drive while you sew! Happy shopping!
Jealousy - time with your hubby and going to IKEA. ENJOY.
The IKEA here is less than 30 miles from me and I have yet to step inside. I think it's been open 3-4 years now. I plan to get there soon. Have fun, can't wait to see the goodies. :)
I am jealous! The closest Ikea here is a good 4-5 hours away. :-(
Can't wait to see what you bring home.
I would LOVE to be close to an IKEA. I need a black Jansko light. Our closest one is almost 6-8 hours away.
I had to go 1339 miles to get to IKEA earlier this year! (New Zealand to Australia). It was great but I couldn't buy much :-( as it had to fit in my suitcase on the way home. I think Hubby loved it more than me, we had a great time there and had meatballs for lunch too.
There is an IKEA within 20 minutes of my house but going in there is like being in an insane asylum. Or a giant gerbil Habitrail for humans. Where's the exit?!? I know it's a plot to make me look at as much of their stuff as possible before I escape (I don't want a Bjorn or a Lars or a Knut just give me an EXIT!).
Nearest IKEA is 430 miles from me! (Until November 1, I had to drive 69 miles to get to work!) I hope your IKEA trip was wonderful and that the binding got finished!--Someday I'll get to one!
And I think that's "as the crow flies"--although in the last two days I've seen crows (ravens, actually) flying backward.
I was looking at your binding I must do my backwrds I think I "hem" it the quilt.
I feel the same way when I am at the Ikea store. For me, it is like going through a maze when I reach the lower floor. I need the EXIT!!!! just to breath.
I would dump everything there before I arrive at the cash; so that is why I usually ask my sister to do the shopping for me.

We took a 100 mile drive to get fabric and thread (and lunch) .....and oops....come home with a new Bernina! Oh, and my husband has never been in Ikea either.
Lucky you having an Ikea, I have to go to Australia to visit a store. I love their fold down dining room table as a craft/cutting table. Have fun.
The Ikea nearest me is about 45 minutes away, and there's a Container Store around the corner. Best of all worlds. Storage and organization heaven.
I get that feeling too! Sometimes in the parking lot even. I think it is just my brain rebelling against the forced marketing scheme. Namely just keep the customer engaged and they will buy something.

snap, like you I was at Ikea yesterday, only 15 mins drive from where I live. A table for the sewing machine was on my list but unfortunately my daughter Helen got a bit carried away and bought so much I could not get my table as there would be no room in her car!! She bought 3 great lamps that were globe shape with beautiful leaves etched on., dinner set and lots of other bits as she is moving into her first bought home soon after being in rented for years. I could not resist the large glass jars that were only £1 and will be able to put my ribbons, buttons in etc so see what I am looking for instead of having to check in all the boxes I use now, we spent far longer than planned and enjoyed a nice lunch there too.
IKEA....the Depre family receives TY cards from the home office every year....lol.
Oh golly, our IKEA is is just 8.3 miles from the house! I 've been once and it took girlfriends coming in from TN to get me there. I was thinking safety in numbers and I was right. I escaped only spending $35, but looking at my list of what I wanted to buy was over $4,000. It was the urge to gut the kitchen and start over that go me going.
I agree with Pauline that I was curious at the way you hold your handstitching on the quilt. I use the reverse orientation, too, as I hem. There are so many ways to do things!
We have no Ikea where I live in TN... so I drove 8.5 hours to Towson MD for my newphew's graduation!... After the festivities I wandered through the local Ikea looking for ideas. I bought two of those lights Bonnie uses... one for me and one to mail to a friend!
Ok so do you bind clockwise... or counterclockwise? This just fascinates me! I bind clockwise and I think I am the only one! LOL
