The Happy Sewing Room!

I took a little side trip yesterday, stopping at The Happy Sewing Room in Hamburg, PA!

I had met the owner, Jean in previous classes I have taught at Quilt Odyssey in Hershey, and there was no way I could be this close to her adorable shop and NOT stop by!

The Happy Sewing Room is located in the front half of Jean’s lovely 1930’s Stone house…..the front porch beckoning you to come up the steps, and come on in!

Jean has had her shop in her home for more than 20 years ---having previously worked for So-Fro fabrics in the area, loving the industry, but still having a desire to work from home.

Her space is cozy, quaint and inviting!

It does feel like you are being welcomed into someone’s parlor, and I wish my sewing room looked like THIS!

Bright natural light from well placed windows highlight a wonderful selection of shop samples, stacks of fat quarters, and beautiful bolts lining the walls.

The original fire place is still functional, and in cold winter months you will enter to find a fire burning, and a comfy couch inviting you to take a load off and thumb through books, patterns and magazines for ideas!

The Happy Sewing Room is open from Wednesday-Saturday at the hours posted above.  But if you are in the area on other days, just give Jean a call!  If this busy grandma is around, she will open up just for you!

Thanks for the tour, Jean!  So looking forward to seeing you again in July for Odyssey!!

I love small, locally owned shops owned by people who actually create with fabric. It always provides a wonderfully satisfying and inspirational experience, far superior to the big box stores who hire help based solely on the fact that employees will work for minimum wages. Her shop is lovely. I wish I were closer so I could swing by. Thanks for sharing.

That is a wonderful little shop that is very inviting and looks like it would be a really peaceful place to shop. I sure wish there was something like this in the Denver metro area.

Hi Bonnie. How close is this lovely shop to Hershey? I am taking my niece to see One Direction in July.....I know, I am either nuts or a great Aunt! I would love to visit if it isn't too far from Hershey. I will deserve a reward after that event!

I go by her shop and sometimes stop in on my way to my son's in Allentown and I think it take between 45 to 60 minutes depending on how fast you drive. From Hershey you get on I-81 to Rt.78 and is the next exit after Calbella's Hope this helps! Margie
