Oh I love traditional blocks with traditional names! I’ve played with this block before, but never in this setting! And isn’t that brown and tan yummy together?? WOW!
Lots of plaids and stripes, some indigoes --- and that brown and tan are softened by the pale pink that pops up here and there as block backgrounds.
Isn’t it fun to take a closer look at how quilters used color in their day?
Here is the full quilt, as much as I could get of it:
MORE GINGHAMS!
That poor tan is about shredding --- this is a quilt that was used often, keeping loved ones warm and toasty through chilly winter nights.
Lovely Indigo print!
The quilting is very nice too, with the alternate hourglass blocks being echo quilted, and the block centers being cross-hatched…..
Soft blue blacking….see the texture of the stitches??
Now take a good look at the full picture above again ----looks like someone ran out of tan border along the left side edge…..no worries – we’ll just slap some red on here! LOVE LOVE LOVE! There are no top or bottom borders, and this time the front is turned to the back to bind. GREAT QUILT, don’t you agree?!
And tomorrow I have plans to do some more browsing. I meet with the Crossroads Quilters on Valentine’s Day ---so I leave tomorrow morning for my second trip through Georgia!
This time the machine and a couple of deadline projects are coming with me. I’ve got to put the pedal to the metal as my next book manuscript is due in October and the pressure is mounting.
I’m spending today with desk stuff and kitting up stuff to keep me busy on the road.
But I do believe I will be ready for Quilt-Cam tonight at 9pm – if you are awake and otherwise free, bring a project! Come sit and stitch with me!
See you then!

What a beautiful and much-loved quilt. I've seen this block a lot in the last year or so in blogs and on flickr.com - one group calls it Granny Squares! http://www.flickr.com/groups/thegreatgrannyalong/
Like you, I LOVE antique quilts and this one is particularly special. I have already made a bunch of these siggy album blocks for an exchange that never got off the ground. So, I decided to just keep them and make them into a quilt, but hadn't decided yet how to arrange them in a quilt. This setting would be perfect. It's easy and I love the secondary design it creates. As a matter of fact, I just remembered that I have a bunch of leftover HSTs from a recent project that are just the right size for the alternating hourglass blocks.
Absolutely love that quilt. Is the pattern out there someplace ?

Fun setting them with hourglass blocks. I have some Album swap blocks- thanks for sharing the idea!
Bits of pink notwithstanding, that's a very guy-friendly quilt. Adding this one to my list "to make from shirts - someday."
Hey Jan I see you're not very far from me. I'm in Winter Garden. If you find out where this pattern is would you please let me know? TIA...Nancy
