Joyce ((in the pink)) was on a waiting list for my Sister’s Choice class up in Prescott. And she was only given a day’s notice that space had opened up and she jumped right on it! She loaded up her mini-cooper with everything she would need and made her way to spend the night with her friend who already lives in Prescott -----so excited!
And then it hit her – if she had driven her bigger vehicle – SHE could have brought me back down to the valley ---Joyce, as it turns out, lives only about a mile and a half from my dad! Small world!
She’s told me that any time I come to visit I can have access to her featherweight, and if my feet feel the need --- I can come treadle on her treadle machine too!
Thanks to quilters far and wide ---I just never go WITHOUT!
I also love it when people bring show and tell ---it’s a fun thing to do as we are winding up lunch, getting our minds geared up for another 3 hours of sewing. Do you see all the cute cute cute 4” scrappy stars in Joyce’s quilt? CUTE!

She brought these to show me what she did after retiring….each star is as scrappy as it can be---half with dark backgrounds and light star points, half in the reverse with light backgrounds and dark star points. This was her effort after retiring to take the time to do a quilt with many many many little pieces.
I love the quirky combinations of florals mixed with novelties and old calicos mixed with modern brights and everything all in there to play away! It just sparkles!
Okay I’ll do it for you! 200 4” stars!
Way to go, Joyce! And I certainly will take you up on your offer the next time I’m around the corner ;c)

Wow! That is one beautiful scrap quilt! I love how she used everything. What a great use of value. I love the use of hourglass blocks as alternate blocks, what a great setting for the stars.
And when you step back, you see the bigger Ohio stars made with the QSTs--wow!

I absolutely love this quilt! Joyce certainly must be very proud of this creation! It is such an inspiration to all of us who think working with small pieces is such a daunting task! Look at the fantastic finish! If we get our mind set on enjoying the process, maybe more of us would make masterpieces like this!

I didn't even notice the secondary star pattern until I read Lisa in Port Hope's comment - but there they are! What an amazing quilt! That is my kind of quilt - the scrappier the better.
I think Joyce should have been crowned "Queen of Scraps" for the day! What a wonderful use of color and textures! I think I may have to try one myself, but don't worry, it won't come close to this beauty!!LOL!

OH that is a great pattern to use up all those scraps that really don't read one color and you don't know what to do with them. 4 inch stars here they come.

Thank all of you for the incredibly kind words! No, I'm afraid I don't have a blog. I'm not that computer savvy. I'm glad you enjoyed looking at my retirement quilt. I was trying to use up a bunch of scraps. But, using one inch squares sure didn't even begin to make a dent. Guess you loose your common sense when you retire huh???
Do you have dimensions for cutting or a pattern name I could look up? I would love to use up all my scraps into such a creation!
I made a twin size quilt using 9" friendship stars that each have either a 3" friendship star or a 9 patch block in the center square. My friends said I was nuts to make such little blocks, it was worth the effort.
Its all red,white and blue. It went to Wounded Warriors at Ft. Hood army base in Killeen,TX
