I was cutting for about 3 different projects at the table side of the quilting machine where I do my cutting. Pretty soon I couldn’t see the surface and I had to stop and clean it all up again before I could continue. And that is ALL I have gotten done today so far.
I should have accomplished about twice as much --- but wonder of wonders, I FOUND the missing string geese, and decided that the string blocks I finished the other night needed to be trimmed and cut to size so I could spend TODAY putting the wing triangles on.
Has it been that long since I worked on these that I forgot where I was?! YES!
Back LAST YEAR in December, I believe it was our last Quilt-Cam of the year ---I went as far as I could to get the right hand wing triangles sewn onto the center string geese, and I said when I run out of bobbin thread, or run out of cut wing triangles – it would be time to stop for the day. The bobbin thread ran out and that was that!
I’ve got my new “Best Built” machine up and running. This thing, even when placed flat on the desk top – still likes to shimmy and shake at high speeds! It might not be level, but I don’t have the time to deal with it right now…we will just do the best we can!
He still needs a name ----someone said that “Shimmy Jimmy” just might do the trick, and I think they may be right!
Shimmy Jimmy is a 1950s Class 15 machine, made in Japan. I love these really weird brand machines – SO FUN!

My husband needed plastic boxes for train stuff. The new ones are different, so I am taking the new one and doing some sorting as I fill the new one. Good Quilt Camtoject.

Bonnie! I got my bottom in gear and am sewing on a Emdeko with you today! I came across her in an estate sale last summer. I saw a cabinet with sewing related stuff under it and looked inside and this machine was there! I asked what the price was and they said 10.00$ too much? I immediately called hubby and had him rush to pick us up! All is here , every cam, tool, foot pedal , etc. I sat her in my sons room and haven't taken time to look further at her. I realized with your passion for these old machines I was wasting time and needed to taken advantage of her! She is a jewel! Not a spot on her! I have oiled her but she didn't look as if she needed it.. She sounds so sweet. Glad I have your 1/4 ruler to set the seam width. We will be purring with you. Thanks for all the inspiration!

My 8th child just moved out so I'm turning his room into my sewing room! Finally out of the dining area (tiny house). I'm folding fabric and organizing and trying to make space for all my machines. Today's Quiltcam will keep me motivated. Thank you Bonnie!

Woohoo!! Just finished the 'body' of Easy Street. Need to add the borders, but have not decided on the final border. Ready to start cutting fabric to work on a green quilt. Did get the book that I requested for Christmas - String Fling! My DD came through again. Looking forward to the new mystery in Quiltmaker.

Just a thought about machines that are a little juttery...i put my featherweight on a piece of shelf liner....the kind that looks kind of like woven rubber. It acts as a good stabilizer for the machine.

With the 100 Blocks Vol #1 reprint that just came out - I didn't see a block by you - which 100 Blocks Magazines do you have blocks in?
Thread on a cone is meant to come off the TOP, while the thread on a spool comes off the side. The twist is different.

I agree with checking your feet when you change machines. I stitched a whole section of a table runner in college and another section at home. They are nowhere near the same and can't be joined together so I've got to remake the college section at home and think of a use for the other panel. Maybe a journal cover?? Hi Bonnie, I realized I was supposed to say something that I was lucky with. I am really lucky that my husband supports my addiction of fabric! I also live in a small community that has lots of quilters and have lots of friends always ready to shop, sew, or do show and tell with! I love your old machines, I have three featheweights that I've accumulated, two, I just succummed to greediness! They were both ebay purchases, one, the case is in terrible shape, but the machine sews like a dream! I took a featherweight maintenance class using my first one, then as I accumulated the others, I was able to do maintenance and cleaning on them, they really are easy to take care of, and I agree, there is nothing like sewing on a metal machine!

I am working on a backing for an old UFO. I didn't have enough of my chosen fabric so dug into my shirt stash and found 3 that are perfect, to piece into a back with my original planned fabric!

Hi Bonnie, I got a machine that is much like the ones made in Japan but it was made in Indoniesa, spelling wrong , sorry. have you seen any made from there.? It runs wonderful and the prettiest powder blue.DH got my treadle finished and i got it running. so fun to use. and I love the sound. thanks for encouraging to do this.
Hi Bonnie! What a fun way to spend Sunday aFternoon! I am working on Easy Street - the longest corner to corner row. With any luck, that will be done today. Need to do some ripping and remove the two four patches running in the wrong direction. Ugh! Can't wait to get my next issue of Quiltmaker!!! I see another Bonnie quilt in the near future. One of my old machines shimmied all over the place and would make a rattling racket when I sewed too fast. I put a towel under it and that quieted it down and cushioned the shimmy. Kind of miss those old friends from yesteryear-may have to see if I can find one as a replacement!

Just finished the top a way overdue quilt top for my sister while watching quilt cam... now snipping the threads. Thank you for your tips about sticking a seam guide to the machine, it made this top come together like a dream even though everything in pretty much in the bias.

Morning from Sunny Queensland! I just got back from my morning walk in time to catch the end of Quiltcam. Your crazy geese are coming along very nicely. I'm doing some 3" finished string blocks with my 1" strips - I have two full drawers to use up which will keep me out of trouble for a while. Thank you for Easy Street - I loved it. I haven't quilted them yet but they WILL get done because I love the pattern and colours so much.

Bonnie, I'm glad I caught you on quiltcam today. I just had to see how your new Japanese machine was working as I just got mine up and running. It also is a three footed beast (and yes they are about 40 lbs.), but I ended up making a small cabinet/table in order to make it behave. I think they were really made to sit in a table as mine no longer rocks and we were just stitching away while listening to you.

I was in the middle of getting a sewing room when my son came back. Took years til I tried again.
Well dang I missed quilt cam. But we were privileged to get to pay our respects for a beloved member of our community. Quilting time comes just after nap time..
Need to find my sewing "mojo"! It up and left me. I had time today but no ambition. Watched a movie on TV instead. Oh well. As for the mess in the sewing room.....I clean up the sewing room so I can find what I need to pack for a retreat. It really looks pretty good when I leave. Then I come back!!:( I unpack and make the infamous stacks you referred to and proceed to work around them for ages. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who makes stacks. Maybe you can come to my house one day and help find the quilt top I've lost.
Dang, I missed it again. One of these days I'll be home and free when you're on quilt cam. Sorry I missed the fun.
Question........It says "you might also like....." and it gives older quilt cams. But when I click on one, it says "Off Air". will it let me see an older issue if she is not on quilt cam? I have never seen one, and will try back when she is on so I can see one. Thank you if anyone can make sense of this for me.
