I made it to Tallahassee by 5 PM!
Of course it was about an hour and a half longer than I thought it would take, but considering I spent about an hour and a half wandering antique malls – it all evens out :-)
The older I get the harder it is to drive past dark in an area that is unfamiliar to me.
What makes it even more difficult are towns and cities with ordinances that say that businesses signs should be no taller than the buildings or signs should be even with the ground or signs should be hidden from view by the moss covered limbs of live oaks obscuring all signs and businesses!
It seems like all of the buildings are hidden behind trees and other shrubbery and their signs are so small And low to the ground that you have no idea what you're looking for or if you've passed it or not.
I'm here for four nights, so I completely unpacked my suitcase putting my belongings in dresser drawers, my toiletries in the restroom and I've set out my featherweight with some scraps and wild and goosy blocks to do some piecing in my jammies :-)
I don't give a program until tomorrow evening so tomorrow is a free day for me! Being as I've never been in Tallahassee before, does anyone have suggestions as to what kind of mischief I can find myself into?!

All I know about Tallahassee is there is a Krispy Creme and a nice Walmart. I usually get through there at night too.
I love those wild and goosey blocks! Can't wait for them to be published.
glad you arrived safely. Looking forward to pix of your antique finds! Your goosey blocks look great... looking forward to seeing that pattern soon !?
Look up McClay park. The museum by the capital building. Oh, there is lots of neat thigs to se there..
My husband and i went to a great place one year for our anniversary. You will love it. It has walking areas and places to get great photos. It is called Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park and here is the info on where it is. Not sure where you are but I know it isn't far from the town center. 3540 Thomasville Rd, Tallahassee, Florida 32309, (850) 487-4556, floridastateparks.org.

Come visit Quilting by the Bay in Panama City. It's the best quilt store in the Florida Panhandle!
I'm lovin' those Googies. This looks like something thing I really want to do. Someone said it's not published yet? When will it be published?
No ideas for Tallahassee, never having been there myself. I have taken my sewing machine with me on business trips in the past. I always wondered what the hotel cleaning folks thought when they had to vacuum my room. I usually left them a little extra because of the mess I made. I would have cleaned it myself, but had no vacuum!
Is wild and goosey already published? If so which book? Sure love that pattern!
Sounds like trying to find your way around Cary, NC...very frustrating when you can't see any landmarks! Hope you have a great stay, and glad you get some freebie sewing time as well! Enjoy!
Quilting by the Bay is Awesome! I use mail order and would love to visit it in person!
Bonnie, I know you have received many questions regarding your adjustable SewSteady table. I wondered if you have a model number. I'm going to try to order one and have it sent to my sister who will be spending the winter in the U.S. Please....and thank you!

I hate driving after dark too. Have fun Bonnie, hope you find something enjoyable to do while you wait for your program, or you could just sit and sew your blocks, that's always fun. Hope you have better luck finding what you're looking for.

Can't wait to see what you find, check out the Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park too. Then south of there a few miles and turn left on E Gaines street you will come upon Cascades Park, and then Myers park, I think that is the one I loved goin to every time we visit Tally. Then the Desoto Historical site is two blocks east from there on the north end off of E Layfaette St.
Glad to hear you made it there safe...even if your blue-jean didn't! Still slowly putting away quilts after your visit...and you will be happy to know Paula helped me unsew that little bit on my Orca Bay and it is now ready to be quilted!
About 30 minutes north of Tally is Havana (I'm told Hay-vana is the local pronunciation). Antique shops abound!

I'm from Tallahassee Bonnie! I wish my mom was a quilter so she could see you wherever you're appearing :)
Something you may enjoy is the Natural History Museum! http://tallahasseemuseum.org/ - they have old buildings, make cane syrup and you get a taste of the "old South" walking around the grounds. Lots of animals and exhibits.
Havana is good for antiquing as someone else mentioned. If you like Mexican food you should try La Fiesta on Apalachee Parkway.
No visit to Tallahassee is complete without a drive through the campus of Florida State University. Go Noles!!
I understand the night vision thing! I try to only drive at night in places I know. Anything else is truly unsafe. Have a good visit. Micki
Hey Bonnie, Your ripped jeans are the style. Just fray the knees a little and you're 'cool'. In more ways than one, too!

hi Bonnie, i love seeing you take your beloved sewinfbuddys everywhere you go, but i wonder.... what do the people in the room next to you think when you start sewing? or is your buddy very silent? Have fun and enjoy the new experiances! love from the Netherlands...Winda
Bonnie, do you have an attachment so you can use the large spools of thread for the featherweight?
