It's Monday evening ----post cortisone shot in my hip. I have new appreciation for those who have had this in other joints like knees and shoulders and low backs. It's not pleasant!
I've iced down, I've rested -- but I am itching to sew for just a bit. No treadling for me tonight though, that is just too much movement! I've got some paper foundations, some Autumn colored strings and I'm just going to mindlessly string piece for a while.

Bonnie, I found a 401A Singer for $5.00 at Habitat. It sews well, but, the motor gives off an odor. It doesn't smell like anything burning, but, do you think I should have an electrician look at it? The wires are all in good order. I am outside of Charlotte, so, if anyone knows of a local guy who loves to work on old machines, please post it!

I found a silver bar that is bent at one end in my sewing machine where the accesories are. I think ity's called a seam guide and but can't figure out how to use it. when you are sewing on paper... do you always use a plain side of the paper with no ink to sew on and leave the ink color on the back? Am really enjoying quiltcam and waiting to hear about the hexie/piecing retreat.

While showing a recent finish @ our guild meeting, I realized that the tip you shared for using cardstock to measure between seams would be a great one for those using jelly rolls - it can be hard to figure out where on the pinked edge to line up your needle.
Lastly, I'm thinking you've probably already answered this, but I just got home and tuned in: Can you tell us what the pattern is for the gorgeous quilt on your LA?

I'm currently working on your braid design. I've got all of the squares and bricks cut and I've pieced 3 braids thus far. This is taking forever! Even working on 3 at a time I feel like the top just won't grow! Any words of encouragement/advice. I think I'm gonna need motivation not to just make this into a border instead. Too late for that as every tiny piece is cut!!!
I am teaching sewing to at risk young adults. So what did I do? I introduced them to Bonnie Hunter! We visited your blog! We are going to make hexies in Christmas colors and turn them into Christmas stockings for our first project. Then every Thursday the students are going to make as many blocks as they can in 1 1/2 hours to your Basket Weave Quilt. At the end of the session the students that have participated and come every night will get their name in a drawing to win the quilt. I will bring it home and quilt it! Thanks Bonnie for sharing! I hope the students enjoy it!

I loved seeing Texas Tumbleweeds come in the mail today in Quiltmaker! On my to do list for sure! I chuckled when your hubby called re. list. Mine has been asking me when we are going shopping for days now . He knows I'm leaving Thursday. I promised him I would not leave him an empty fridge. I always say I can be gone as long as his fresh fruit holds out, so try to wait till right before I leave. lol
I tried your paper method of string piecing and cut a 12.5" newspaper foundation. By the time I was done piecing, I only had a 12.25" block. Is this normal??? Lesson learned...good thing I wasn't going for a specific size as the quilt was based around the diagonal string blocks.
Bonnie. Just checked out the serial number on my White treadle. It is a 1909. It is so beautiful and would still be sitting in a corner with a plant on it if it weren't for you. Thanks Faith in Maine
Did almost 2 hours of hand sewing today and got about 12 hexies sewn into my top. Now my fingers are sore and time to type. Got my 1925 Singer going yesterday and did some sewing on it-decided if I didnot sew too fast maybe the motor would not smoke! So far, sew good! Glad you are back!

Thanks for QuiltCam tonight! It was the incentive I needed to work on finishing a dress for my granddaughter, that my mother started close to 30 years ago for my daughter. I'm getting it done and putting it away for Easter!
I can't believe I finally caught the quilt cam, I've been trying for months it seems. Only watched for 10 minutes but definitely wet my whistle for more!
Thank you thank you thank you. I ran out of steam and had fallen asleep a few hours ago, but woke up and realized the time and dashed to find out if you were on or not. Found you were and tuned in. It was very pleasant to sit here and work on whatever while you were working away. Please thank your son Jason for the tip on how to end things. It was cutting out before you were through talking before. I am super-impressed that apparently your son watches you on quilt cam (bonnie cam!) How sweet! Take care!
My repro Spindx button on the lower right side of the base of the machine that lower the feed dogs. I really wonder if it is another singer that has been painted. Of course when I purchased the machine it did not have a manuel with it. I am now trying to find out what type of machine it is so I can get one. THe thread tension disks are on the back left side of the machine
You might also try yahoo groups. They have many sewing machine groups. wefixit is a good one for information and help on all sorts of sewing machines. And they have one that is japanese made machines like Bonnie was talking about. Lots of options.

Bonnie, I've never gotten to view the quilt cam. I discovered it several weeks ago but I always miss it for one reason or another. This is stupid of me..... Boy I was determined one night. I thought ok, she's 2 hours ahead of me, so if she's sewing at 7:00 I need to look for it at 9:00 Texas time. Wrong, duh, 5:00. Maybe this week! I wish I had seen it last night, I've not tried string quilts yet, I was at bible study. Maybe this week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just found pdf file of book for model 15K and it mentions using a feed cover plate #15359 for darning, etc. So bet the feed dogs do not go down.
