I'm also the only one in the dealership show room waiting area which gave me a great place to lay the quilt out for a photo opportunity! :-)
Who knows how long it will take them to finish fixing my car? I just might have this section sewn on by the time I leave! :-)

Very nice. I love how you brought the star points out to the edge.
Do you take the paper out as you sew each hex to the others? or do you wait until it is done? I would think it is hard to fold if the paper is in. Just keep them on the outer edge until connected, right?

I always take hand work with me when I take my car in - it's not often since I drive a Subaru - it's almost always for oil changes and nothing else. I have accomplished quite a bit in these little bits of time, but nothing as beautiful as the quilt you have just finished! If I managed that dealership, I would consider asking you to hang a quilt in the showroom, it would certainly help make them easier to spend time in.
Seeing your finished quilt makes me think I should dig my project back out - but there are those pesky balloon blocks I am trying to finish - only six more of those to go - will finish those first, then back to hexies - this will mean one less UFO at my house if I pursue it this way - lol

Awe ... give them a try - they really aren't hard and it's all hand sewing so if you sew two colors together by mistake, it is easily fixed.
I think the hardest part would be figuring out a design and I have to admit that I have my little flowers going, but have no idea how I am going to connect them yet - I am hoping this is the right way to start out the project. I am relatively new to hand piecing too.

Hexis are so so sooo easy to sew and you get perfectly matched seams every time. If you can whip stitch then you can do hexis! They're portable so you can work on them anywhere (Bonnie proved that!!). Love my hexis...I take my "project in a box" with me everywhere. Keeps me sane. And out of trouble ;)

Hey Bonnie, I was just thinking maybe you should add an outer border to your hexie quilt....that would finish it off nicely. Oh, I'm just kidding. You're finished! It's beautiful! (Have you counted how many little hexagons are in it??) Congratulations! And I do have a question and hope it's not too "dumb"....do you have to quilt this?? How would you do that?

How gorgeous! It has been a journey watching your progress on this hexie quilt and it inspired me to begin a few months ago on making my own. I work on my hexie's whenever I can grab a spare moment. I keep all the fixin's in a table drawer in the living room and just grab one up whenever I am going to sit there for more than 10 minutes. I take a bag I made up with me whenever I travel. I have about 25 flowers made up so far. Thanks for inspiring me!

Love it! I have been working on my hexie project for abt 10yrs, I would be finished if my interest just stayed with it. This summer I made a lot of progress on it, and I even completed a lot of flower sections during Quilt Cam time :-) I love your design, and so many times I think about starting something similar... but considering how long this current project has taken me, I've decided to continue with it and not start a new one. If I was a hand piecing speedster/or if I did it more often, that'd be one thing. I have to know my limits and just admire other hexie quilts for now :-) But when I finish, I may start a new one!

Very impressive work! About this time last year, I was sewing (and blogging about) a hexagon quilt, made of way, waaaay less hexagons than that. Beautiful, beautiful.
What lessons were learned from the very first stitch to the last?
That is just amazingly beautiful! I love the red! I want to start a Hexie project. I have some old grandma gardena that I found that need to be put together. But I would like to start my own! Not sure where to start?!
