Happy Scrappy Houses in Floyd, VA!

This is such a WONDERFUL time to be in the mountains in South Western Virginia! The amazing colors of the turning leaves against a bright blue October sky ----it just took my breath away!  It has got to be the best time for driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway ----the views and vistas are just unbelievable ---invoking a feeling of awe and reverence that is hard to describe.

We stopped along the way to Floyd from Meadows of Dan where I was staying, to catch a glimpse at THIS view ----it was about 9:15am and blustery windy, but SO crisp and clear!

Doesn’t this just make you catch your breath??

The view was so vast I had to do it in 3 shots!

That sun was shining down on a beautiful morning!

I think you can “biggie size” the pic by clicking on it to read about Rock Castle Gorge.

We had a very fun day in class --- we were joined by 9 ladies from Roanoke, just up the road --- loads of quilty chatter, laughter and visiting going on while we sewed our house blocks!

My thanks go to the ladies in Floyd for making this all possible!  It was so worth the 2 year wait to come “just up the road” to visit with you all for the past few days!

Purple Mountains Majestry!
So many familiar fabrics in those houses!! Feeling the need to make that quilt.

I love the pictures, Bonnie. It was a pleasure to have you stay in my home while you were here. Bill will be working on the "Bonnie Hunter Slept Here" sign.

Hi Bonnie, A few years back we drove through the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Smokey Mountains to visit my aunt in Tennessee. We even got off the parkway in Floyd and spent time sightseeing around there. You are absolutely correct about the awe inspiring beauty of the place. Those vistas sure did make me feel humble and inconsequential in the scheme of things. thanks for the reminder.

I so enjoy your blog and travels. The pix of the mountains were breathtaking. It's one of my favorite areas of the country , along with the mountains out in Arizona . Seeing the pix makes me want to try landscape quilts! The houses were cute. Have a great trip home. Micki

Such a great block and I want to give a shout out for the quilter who "wears her block" for the pictures. I love seeing those pictures in your slide shows. Smiling quilter faces. Hmm. Wonder if I could piece a block with a smiling quilter wearing her block?
